Chapter 23 something different
Lucifer’s P.O.V. (Continued)

I froze as soon as my ears caught his words.
“What rubbish are you talking about?” I yelled angrily, shooting daggers at him through my eyes.
He scoffed and leaned his upper body on the table beside me, almost laying his body there while looking at me teasingly.
“It has been more than three years, and you never let a woman come near you, let alone walk with you, or share a ride with you. Your possessiveness towards her was so blatant that everyone around us understood your favoritism towards her.” He remarked mischievously, but his observation made me suck in a breath.
“You are reading too much, Ethan. There is nothing like that. Now get off. You are hindering my work.” I replied angrily and grabbed his ear to make him stand up.
“Aaahhhh. What are you doing? Leave my ear. Leave now.” He yelped in pain, holding my hand, which was pulling his ear, and got off the table.
“I guess you have more idle time these days. I need to give you some more work.” I continued scolding him, throwing him away from me.
“No, I don’t want more work. How can you be so cruel to me? You like her and don’t want to admit it. Fine by me. It’s not like that I lack women around me,” he grumbled, rubbing his ear and glaring at me.
He is my beta, but because of our close friendship from childhood, he can be playful with me in private, but he gets on my nerves almost all the time.
“And don’t forget that we have so many unmated he-wolves. Amber is not only talented but also a damn goddess if we talk about beauty and grace.” I growled threateningly when he talked about Amber’s beauty with those dreamy eyes.
“If you want to rest in peace, just tell me. No need to court death like this.” I threatened him while glaring hard at him.
His face immediately went pale, but that was just for a few seconds before he burst into laughter.
“I have matters to attend, but for your knowledge, one of those unmated wolves, Lucian, is the most outstanding. What do you think she will do if Lucian also approaches her?” He asked teasingly, but I snarled at him, throwing a file in the process.
He caught the file while laughing, and before I could say anything, he ran out of the room.
“Damn, mutt.” I snarled, banging my fists on the top of the desk, cracking it in the process.
“What’s his fault here? You refused to acknowledge her as our mate. You are to blame here if she decides to reject us and leave us.” Beast snarled at me, heartbreak evident in his voice.
“She will never do that.” I protested, agitated by the mere thought of Amber leaving me.
She was my second chance mate. I will be alone forever if she rejects me or something happens to her.
“I can’t put her life in danger by acknowledging her publicly, Beast. We already lost Grace. We can’t lose Amber.” I said to him grimly.
He snorted angrily and then blocked me.
I sighed and slowly leaned backward.
Grace was not just my first mate but also the first woman of my life. I was content with my life with Grace, and when she told me about our pup, I was over the moon.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, resting the back of my head on the top of the backrest.
What I had with Amber wasn’t just the mate bond.
I don’t know why, but it wasn’t just the mate bond.
She was fighting beside me, throwing herself on rogues to protect me.
Instead of having that urge to protect her as a mate bond feels about his mate, I felt an urge to fight beside her.
She dominated the battlefield, and I supported her.
As her king and her mate, I would have kept her close to me.
Instead, I let her shine and show her skills to the world.
I let her make those rogues fear her, not me.
The pack noticed her. I felt that through the pack bond.
The reaction was a mix. Some people are still doubting her skills because of the absence of her wolf.
Her wolf…..
I slowly opened my eyes and thought about something.
“Gabriel. Come and meet me at the office.” I called Gabriel, my gamma, through mind-link.
“If this is about Amber, then I am bringing Greg with me too, Alpha.” He replied to me calmly through mind-link.
I was perplexed when he mentioned Greg.
“Okay.” I still agreed with him and cut off the mind-link.
Did something happen between Amber and Greg?
I just asked him to come to my office, and he immediately took Amber’s name.
I straightened my back and was about to lean forward when I remembered that I had just broken the table.
I groaned in frustration but stood up while gathering all the files and taking my laptop and phone from the table.
I went to the couch so that I could finish my work.
I was about to sit when I got a call from Lucian.
He went to the company this morning, as he had a few meetings to attend today.
“Done with your meetings?” I asked him calmly while sitting on the couch.
“You won’t believe who I met today, bro?” He replied to me excitedly.
I sighed helplessly this time.
Lucian was only two years younger than me, but he is still the biggest child of the pack.
“I don’t know. Tell me.” I asked him while taking one file from the pile on which I was working earlier.
“David Holt.” I raised my brows in surprise.
“Holt CyberTech is one of the companies that submitted their proposals for our next project, Lucifer, and I just went through their proposal. He is amazing.” He continued telling me, and I listened to him intently.
“I also learned that Daniel is the CEO of A.H. Security Corporation. I am sure that I don’t need to tell you the full form of A.H. They have been in the security industry for more than ten years, Lucifer. I investigated and learned that it was their mother who started this company back then but never disclosed it to anyone.” He added it in the same excited tone.
Now that was interesting.
I heard a knock on the door and asked Gabriel and Greg to enter.
“Hey, bro. I will call you back in a few minutes. I need to go.” Lucian said to me hurriedly, and before I could open my mouth, he hung up.
Stupid brat.
“Alpha.” Both Gabrie and Greg greeted me formally, bowing their heads lightly.
“Have a seat,” I asked them calmly, and closed the file in my hand.
They took chairs and sat down properly.
“Did something happen between you and Amber, Greg?” I asked him calmly.
“If…. If this is about her wolf, th… then yes, Alpha," Greg answered me formally, and I knitted my brows slightly.
