Author's pov.
Back at the rogue hunter's pack, the day dawned crisp and clear as the birdsong drifted through the air. Silas stood on the balcony a bottle of beer on his head as he stared blankly at the ground.
“Hey”. Richard called as he approached him. “What are you doing?”
“Nothing much” Silas replied taking in deep breaths. “I was just about to leave”.
“It is too early to be drunk” Richard frowned staring at the beer bottle. “The elders would be so pissed if they find out what you are doing”.
“Right now, it is not them I am worried about” he scoffed taking a sip.
“I am sorry” Richard bolted out, his eyes fixed to his front avoiding Silas's eyes. “I didn't mean what I said”.
“You mean about my parents betraying the pack?” He chuckled as he shook his head. “I am not angry,” he said with a sigh.
“Why?” Richard frowned as he turned to him, his brows furrowed in curiosity. “That was unexpected”.
“I knew my parents well enough before they died, I know everything about them, their love, their lives, their memories… everything” he paused as a sob choked his throat.
“I didn't mean to say anything I said, I just wanted you to know what Sir Patrick felt when you accused him of betraying this pack…” he paused as he took a glance around. “Sir Patrick is going to kill me but I think you should know this, Sir Patrick is the most devoted man in this pack, he might not be one of the top people in the council but I trust him more than I can trust myself”. He explained.
“Easy for you to say” Silas scoffed.
“Don’t blame the wrong man, kid” he warned.
“Who should I blame then?” Silas's snapped. “Fifty rogue hunters were killed and what we could do was to make a stupid deal with them”.
“You know very well, the deal we made and why we did that” Richard defended. “But I am proud of you” he revealed, his lips curled into a faint smile.
“Ohh so now you approve of what I did?”
“Oh no I don't”. Richard said shaking his head in disagreement. “I approve of the way you thought the rogue's lesson but you should have told me about it, now because of you we lost another rogue hunter”.
“You are joking” Silas frowned locking eyes with him. “Are you?” His face flickered to curiosity and disbelief.
“We lost a rogue hunter during the fight”. He explained. “His name was John” he added.
“I didn't know” Silas defended as he turned his eyes to another direction. “I didn't know that we lost anyone, if I had known I would have killed them all”.
“Things happen you know”. Richard shrugged. “I hope the elders are kind enough to rule it as a mishap”.
“I am sorry” Silas apologized as a teardrop fell. “I didn't mean for that to happen”.
“That was what got Sir Patrick angry”. Richard added. “He was very angry that we lost another young rogue hunter today and the boy's parents are yet to know about his death”.
“I should tell them”. Silas suggested. “I think it is best I tell them about John”.
“No” Richard shook his head in disagreement. “You would only make matters worse, let the elders handle it”.
Silas nodded his head in agreement, he stared blankly at the air. “Richard” he called.
“Huh?” Richard turned to him.
“While I was at the rogue pack, I saw something that was very unsettling” he paused as he bit his lips.
“What is it?” Richard asked, his tone laced with curiosity.
“I had to confirm the detail Kristen said about Noah touching something but I just couldn't find anything so I had to call an old friend…” Richard cut him off.
“I thought I was clear the last time to stay away from that girl”. Sir Patrick snapped as he approached them, Silas and Richard exchanged confused glances.
“We didn't hear you coming” Richard frowned as his face flickered to confusion. “It was like though you just like… literally appeared from nowhere”.
“Being an old man who grew up in the rogue hunter's pack, that shouldn't be suprising to you” he frowned. “We are not like you youngest who act as though your upper body is too heavy for your legs”.
“Please note the lessons about rules” Silas muttered loudly rolling his eyes.
“You know damn well that I would have done a quick lesson but I can't really do that now, after hearing the nonsense you are spitting”. He snapped taking a step closer to Silas. “I told you to leave that girl alone”.
“Well maybe if you had allowed me to get to know her better I would have known about the black witches long before you sent Kristen to her death” he barked.
“Wait” Richard stepped forward. “What are you talking about?” his brows narrowed in curiosity.
“Silas here has bad luck in relationships, his first lover was a vampire guy, I told him he couldn't be gay and I succeeded in breaking them up before the council found out he was dating a guy and the guy was a vampire”. Sir Patrick snapped, as he looked at Silas with a disdainful look.
“What is wrong with being gay?” Richard scoffed. “Everyone has their own opinion of what they love”. He defended.
“I don't care what they find appealing to them but all I know is that when it comes to relationships there are only two rules in this pack and that is get a lady to fuck or remain single like I did”. Sir Patrick eyed, his gaze never leaving Silas.
“It is not like we did anything wrong, we were just in a pure love without benefits relationship, we didn't do anything wrong'. Jake defended.
“All you do is wrong, your parent's death was wrong, if I had known you would have ended up like this I would gladly take the fall to save them, so they can bear their own cross themselves”. Sir Patrick spat, anger flaring vigorously through his veins as he clenched his fists in anger. His breath became heavy.
“Sir Patrick I am sure it was just one mistake” Richard defended. “He must have realized that what he did was wrong”.
“Wrong?” Sir Patrick scoffed glaring at Richard. “His second boyfriend was a guy who now turned out to be a rogue”.
“A rogue?, Is it what I am thinking about?” Richard's eyes narrowed to a pinprick as he bit his lips.
“Don't bother to think about it”. Sir Patrick snapped. “All that matters is that the situation has become worse, he is now dating a black witch”.
“I wasn't dating her and besides she is not my type” Silas defended.
“Friends with a black witch?”. Richard scoffed. “You want to get yourself killed, you have broken more than enough rules”.
“I haven't broken anything yet” he defended. “I never took an oath to this follow any rule of this pack”.
“You took an oath the moment you were born to this pack” Sir Patrick eyed.
“Okay, enough both of you” Richard barked as he turned to Silas. “What did this your friend say about Noah”.
“I had to take her to see Noah, she said it was a powerful spell that kept him half dead, only the witch who did it could counter it”. He explained.
Richard and Sir Patrick exchanged understanding glances at each other.
“That is one of strike down”. Richard revealed.
“What are you talking about?” Silas frowned.
“We had our doubt that Noah touched something and now that your friend has confirmed it”. Richard explained.
“We have to warn Kristen, the rogues might have something up their sleeves, to make up such lies”. Sir Patrick said, his face flickered to concern.
“You are right” Richard nodded his head in agreement. “We need to reach out to her so she can know what she is up against”. He revealed as he reached for his phone.
“You can't call her now”. Sir Patrick said. “We agreed on the time, she would be the one to call, she could be in a place where she can't talk”.
“We don't need to call her to warn her, we need to warn her to get out of there”. Silas chipped in as he reached for his phone.
Richard quickly snatched it away. “We can't risk it, Kristen might be busy, we are going to talk to her tonight, it might be hard to wait till nightfall but it is the best option now”.
“You do know that since we have proof we can enter that pack and destroy it” Silas frowned.
“We can” Richard nodded in agreement. “But it is best we don't”.
“Don't tell me you are scared” Silas scoffed.
“You know very well that I am not scared, all I was trying to say is that if we attack now, we might regret it for time to come, who knows why they lived in the no man's territory in the first place, it might use be to annoy us or even worse they might have something terrible they have planned for us and even if we win the war, we would lose so many of our people”. Richard explained.
“The rogues are no match for us” Silas scoffed.
“Do not underestimate your enemies, Dominic might have come here to study us, if we hadn't been secretive enough he would have known about the secret sentinels we were training or he might just be pretending”. Sir Patrick added.
“Kristen being there is for our good, age would help us know what the rogues are planning and would give us the necessary information needed to defeat the black witches once and for all”. Richard said.
“My fear is would she be up to the task?” Sir Patrick said, his face flickered to a mixture of sadness and anxiety.
“Kristen doesn't know much about spying or relating with the rogues but I am sure she understands what we would lose if she fails” Richard reassured him.
“Since we are talking about all this I might need your help” Silas revealed. “The black witch who helped me had to make sure Trixie left the mansion, but unfortunately Trixie the witch we captured saw her face and threatened to expose her…” he paused. “She is scared and I can't protect her alone, she had to kill Trixie and her daughter Agatha is bent on finding the killer”.
