Chapter 406 Isabella: How Could She Be Gwyneth's Daughter?
The officer looked at Olivia and said coldly, "Someone just called the police, saying you were robbing the place. You know how serious a crime it is to rob a jewelry store, right?"
"Me? Robbing?" Olivia's eyes widened in surprise. "This store belongs to my daughter. What would I be robbing?"
The officer narrowed his eyes. "Show me your ID."
Olivia took out her ID and handed it over.
The officer glanced at the ID, then looked at his subordinate. "Check who owns Celestial Jewels."
The answer came quickly.
"Sir, the owner of this store is Isabella."
"Exactly." Olivia nodded eagerly. "Isabella is my daughter!"
The officer looked around and asked, "Who called the police?"
Dione stepped forward. "I did."
"What happened?"
Dione said without changing her expression, "She came in with these people and started smashing up the store. All the customers were scared away. She looked like she was going to rob the place."
Olivia's eyes went wide as she stared at Dione in disbelief. "What are you talking about? When did I rob anything? I just asked you to call Isabella back. How did this turn into robbery?"
"Regardless of your reason for smashing up the jewelry store, it constitutes disturbing the peace," the officer said, glancing at the messy, damaged store. "Maliciously damaging someone else's property is illegal. Ms. Smith, I'm afraid you'll need to come with us to the station."
Olivia froze. "Go with you? Where?"
"What do you think?" The officer looked at her with displeasure. "According to the law, maliciously damaging someone else's property, disturbing the peace, and negatively affecting someone's business operations carries a detention of at least seven days, and you must compensate the victim for their losses."
"I can't even smash my own daughter's store?" Olivia never expected this. Her face flushed with shame and anger. "Isn't her store basically my store?"
"No matter whose store it is, your offense stands, unless you two reach a private settlement," the officer said flatly.
"Of course we'll settle!" Olivia said quickly. "My daughter wouldn't actually let me be detained, would she?"
"I need to contact her right now!" she said. "This is all a misunderstanding!"
Olivia hurriedly looked at Dione. "Call Isabella now! Hurry!"
Dione glanced at Olivia, then at the police, and took out her phone to call Isabella.
The call connected.
Dione turned on the speaker.
"Is this Ms. Taylor?" the officer asked. "We received a report that your mother brought people to smash up your jewelry store. I need to inform you that you can withdraw the report now, and we'll treat this as a private dispute and not interfere."
"But if you don't withdraw the report, we'll detain your mother directly."
Olivia was truly angry, both furious and aggrieved.
She really hadn't expected Isabella to call the police on her.
"Isabella, do you even consider me your mother anymore?" Olivia demanded, her eyes reddening.
"I'm not withdrawing the report," Isabella said, holding her phone, her voice calm. "Sir, please handle this according to legal procedures. Detain whoever needs to be detained. Also, I'm requesting that Ms. Smith compensate me for the damages to my store according to the law."
Hearing this, Olivia's heart sank, her face turning pale.
"What did you say?" She couldn't believe it.
Isabella hung up directly.
"Isabella? Isabella? You..."
Olivia clutched her chest, nearly fainting.
"It seems your daughter has no intention of settling this matter with you," the officer said, looking at her. "In that case, we still need to detain you."
Olivia truly panicked at these words.
Detention?
She had never in her life imagined she would end up at a police station.
If others found out she was detained, how could she show her face?
"No, this is all a misunderstanding," Olivia said, panic showing in her eyes. "Please help me contact her one more time. I'll explain to her. I just wanted her to come back from abroad."
The police were reluctant, but still had Dione try to contact Isabella again.
But this time, no one answered the phone.
After several attempts, Isabella still didn't pick up.
The officer looked at Olivia, his expression cold. "In that case, you'll have to come with us."
Just like that, Olivia was taken away by the police.
Dione was still in shock.
After Olivia left, she quickly had the store employees clean up the mess.
Once everything was tidied up, she called Isabella. This time, the call went through.
"Ms. Taylor, your mother has been taken away by the police."
"She's not my mother. In no sense whatsoever is she my mother," Isabella said, her tone cold. "If similar incidents happen in the future, whether it's my parents or my brother, handle it as you should. Don't worry about it."
——
The Taylor family soon learned that Olivia had been detained.
"Mom? How did you get detained?" Chase came to the police station to see Olivia, his brow furrowed in disbelief.
Olivia's heart had gone cold.
She had to accept the fact that her own daughter had sent her to the police station.
Olivia felt like she had become a joke.
She and Isabella were clearly mother and daughter, yet they'd ended up like enemies.
She looked at Chase, opened her mouth, and explained with difficulty, "I just brought a few people to smash up Celestial Jewels, wanting Isabella to come back from abroad. But I never expected her to call the police directly. The police said I was disturbing the peace and maliciously damaging property, so they detained me."
Hearing this, Chase's expression darkened. "Over such a small thing? Isabella called the police on you? You're her mother!"
Olivia's expression grew even worse. She pressed her lips together and said nothing.
At first, she too had thought Isabella wouldn't go that far.
In fact, Isabella was far more heartless than she'd imagined.
"This time, Isabella has really gone too far!" Chase clenched his fists and took a deep breath.
After returning from the police station, Chase told Hayden what had happened.
"What?"
"That ungrateful daughter Isabella!"
Hayden could hardly believe it. "She could actually do something like this?"
Chase frowned, unable to help worrying about something.
"Dad, you mentioned before having her hand over the company's management rights to me. Is that really going to work?"
He now seriously doubted whether Isabella would actually listen to Hayden.
After all, Isabella had now even disowned her own mother.
The stock acquisition agreement for the Taylor Group had already been signed, and William had already transferred the money for the stock purchase.
That amount wasn't much, considering the stocks were acquired at ten percent of their current price.
Hayden's expression wasn't good. "We need to find a way to get Isabella back."
With Isabella staying away, he had no control over her at all, which led to her acting so recklessly.
Chase strongly agreed.
"Dad, let's go to Northern Ice Empire and bring Isabella back. No matter what, we shouldn't let her mess around out there."
——
Radiant University.
The news that the Powell family was going to publicly announce Gwyneth's daughter's identity had already spread throughout Radiant University.
This was a sensational matter for the entire nobility.
Many people were discussing it privately.
"I heard Ms. Powell's daughter is already eighteen years old."
"What? She's about the same age as us?"
"Once Ms. Powell's daughter's identity is announced, the entire Northern Ice Empire will probably be shaken."
The Powell family was currently the most powerful in the Northern Ice Empire. Everyone speculated that the reason Gwyneth had waited until now to reveal she had a daughter was that she had been secretly grooming this daughter as her heir, which was why she hadn't made it public.
Now she was choosing to go public because the time was right.
What did the identity of the Powell family heir mean? It meant a status above millions in the Northern Ice Empire.
Who wouldn't want to get to know Gwyneth's daughter? Perhaps just getting familiar with Gwyneth's daughter could bring countless benefits to one's family.
Jasmine naturally heard these discussions too.
She couldn't help frowning. "Ms. Powell's daughter is eighteen this year?"
What a coincidence.
"What's wrong?" Selene and Hestia looked at her in confusion. "Is there a problem?"
Jasmine tilted her head. "Nothing, it's just that I suddenly thought of Isabella."
Gwyneth was both an ancient martial arts professional and a hypnotist.
This seemed to be no secret by now.
Isabella was also the only person they'd encountered so far who was both an ancient martial arts professional and a hypnotist, and her age happened to be about the same as Gwyneth's daughter.
So for a moment, she actually had the thought that Isabella was Gwyneth's daughter.
Jasmine herself was startled by this idea.
Impossible.
How could Isabella be Gwyneth's daughter?
That would be completely absurd.
——
After Isabella learned that Olivia had been detained, she didn't concern herself with that matter anymore.
She went to the hospital.
Saul said that Kennedy hadn't woken up, but Louie had gone to the hospital, saying he would unlock Kennedy's sealed energy channels.
In Kennedy's hospital room, Isabella saw Louie, and Louie's disciple Silas was also there.
Silas was arranging treatment instruments.
Louie, who had been sitting to the side with his eyes closed and silent, heard footsteps and opened his eyes. "Ms. Powell."
"You're planning to start now?" Isabella asked.
"That's right." Louie nodded. "Now is the best time to unblock her energy channels."
"But she hasn't woken up yet."
"That's exactly what we need - for her not to be awake. Only this way can my success rate be ninety-five percent."
Isabella was stunned, showing a surprised expression. "So you knew all along that she would have this accident? No wonder when Kennedy's mother asked all those other doctors, they said Kennedy only had a ten-something percent chance of survival, but with you, it could be ninety-five percent."
Louie nodded. "You could say that."
Isabella gained a new perspective on fortune tellers.
As expected of the Rhodes family heritage, Louie's divination abilities were incredibly powerful.
"What are you thinking about?" Louie asked.
"Thinking about your Rhodes family."
Louie sighed. "The Rhodes family has already died out. There's nothing to think about."
Back then, the Rhodes family was one of the twelve great mysterious families, but now it had nearly disappeared. People with the surname Rhodes were rarely seen in Novaria anymore.
