Chapter 142 Hiring a Bodyguard
I gestured for him to step outside to talk.
Once we were both in the hallway, I took a sip of the coffee in my hand. The strong bitterness instantly cleared my head quite a bit.
"I think the problem was with that glass of water in Grandma's room."
Atlas frowned, "But she's your grandmother. Why would she do this?"
"Obviously to get revenge for John's family."
I let out a cold laugh. "Natasha wanted to put me down at the engagement party, but in the end she found that these little schemes were completely useless against me. That's why she got Grandma involved."
"What do you think would have happened if I had drunk that water yesterday and then a strange man appeared by my side?"
Atlas, who had always lived under his family's schemes, instantly understood the whole situation.
His eyes filled with concern. "But right now we lack solid evidence. Even if you expose this, no one will believe it."
I nodded and said with a sigh, "Yeah, I didn't expect her to be so ruthless and so bold as to try to hurt me right at the party."
I shook my head with a cold smile. "Actually, I don't need the world to believe me. I just need Dad to see through her true face."
Atlas nodded. "Let's keep investigating. We'll see what comes of it, and if it doesn't work out, we'll think of another way."
That was all we could do.
I nodded. "Let's go back and check on things."
"Okay."
Atlas put his hand on my shoulder. "Don't overthink it. As long as you and your parents are safe, we can take care of everything else slowly."
I nodded. The fact that Maria was okay this time was already the greatest fortune.
But there was no guarantee these people wouldn't strike again. I wouldn't give them another chance to go after Maria.
"Thank you. I'll handle these matters myself."
Atlas thought for a moment. "Alright, but if you need me, don't hesitate."
He patted his chest. "You should show some vulnerability sometimes, otherwise it makes me look like a useless boyfriend."
I smiled. "How could that be? My boyfriend is the best and most capable man in the world."
"Smooth talker!"
Atlas laughed and tapped my nose, then put his arm around me as we walked toward the hospital room.
As soon as we entered, we saw Mira with her team preparing to leave.
I quickly asked, "What's going on?"
Mira said, "We've found the man you ran into in the elevator. He's definitely suspicious. I'm taking my team to the police station now to question him in person."
I nodded. "Good, thank you for your help."
Mira nodded slightly. "Ms. Lockwood, don't worry. I'll report to you as soon as there's any news."
"Okay."
I watched Mira and her team leave before pushing the door open to enter the room.
Henry was sitting on the sofa talking with Maria. They both looked happy and relaxed.
Seeing this scene, I didn't want to bring up Rosalind and ruin the mood, so I acted casual. "Mom, what would you like to eat? I can have the hotel deliver it."
Maria nodded. "I've been lying down all day. I'd like to go out for a walk, but your father won't let me."
I looked at Maria. "Let's wait until the doctor says you can be discharged. There's no rush."
"Alright, I'll listen to you two."
Maria agreed with a smile.
I called the hotel and ordered food for Maria, then sat there absentmindedly staring at my phone, waiting for Mira's call.
Henry soon noticed something was wrong with me. Using the excuse of making a phone call, he called both Atlas and me outside.
"Tell me, is there something else you're hiding from me?"
Atlas glanced at me, looking a bit nervous. I knew he was worried that without evidence, bringing up Rosalind might upset Henry.
But since this involved Maria, I couldn't just stand by.
"I suspect the water in Grandma's room was drugged on Grandma's orders."
Sure enough, Henry frowned when he heard this.
After hesitating for a moment, he said, "Helena, I know your grandmother usually favors Natasha, but drugging someone doesn't seem like something she would do."
"But I'm not completely taking your grandmother's side either. What happened to your mother really scared me too. Don't worry, I will investigate this thoroughly."
Hearing Henry's words, I felt a bit disappointed, but I understood that Henry had always been obedient to Rosalind and wouldn't believe accusations without evidence.
But at least she didn't succeed this time. Since she failed, she would definitely try again.
No matter whether Henry could prove it was her this time, she would definitely target me again.
When that time came, it would be my chance to strike back.
I nodded. "Mira is already investigating. If we find out it was Grandma, please don't show any mercy."
"Alright!"
Henry agreed immediately. "You and your mother are the people I treasure most. I won't let anyone hurt you."
Seeing his serious expression, I felt a bit relieved.
But I quickly thought of something. Now that Knox was engaged to Natasha, what happened in my past life would start to unfold according to its original course.
Next would probably be the beginning of John's family taking over the company.
Thinking of this, my first concern was the safety of our family.
"Dad, I suggest we hire some bodyguards to protect the three of us."
"That's a good idea."
Henry agreed with my suggestion. "I'll call the security company right now and have them send two capable bodyguards to protect you and your mother."
He took out his phone, but I quickly interrupted. "Not just the two of us - three people. You too, Dad."
"I don't need one. I'm a grown man, what could happen to me?"
Henry was wrong. Compared to us, he was the most important one.
Only with him around would those evil people not dare to openly bully us.
If anything happened to Henry, given the current situation, John and Rosalind's family would definitely come to our door and take away all the assets that belonged to Maria and me.
"Dad, you're the pillar of this family, the support for Mom and me. If anything happens to you, this family will fall apart. You don't want to see that happen, do you?"
I looked at him seriously. "How much does one bodyguard cost? If we can use that money to ensure your safety, I think it's worth it!"
"Helena's right. I also hope you'll get a bodyguard for yourself."
Atlas also spoke up to persuade him.
Hearing both of us, Henry finally nodded. "Alright then, I'll have them send three people, one for each of us."
He picked up his phone and made the call. After hanging up, he looked at me. "I've arranged it. The bodyguards will arrive tonight. Don't worry."
