Our eyes locked as I adjusted my belt, standing a little straighter. “Are you just going to linger at the door or are you going to come in?” I asked, my tone calm.
Amelia hesitated for the briefest moment, and I could see the tension ripple through her.
She stepped into the office, her eyes darting around the room, taking in every detail. Her gaze landed on the couch where Camilla’s things, pants, bag, and shoes were scattered. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she quickly turned back to me.
“I think I should wait outside until you are done with your guest,” she said, her voice tight, careful.
“I’m a very busy man,” I replied, my tone even, leaving no room for negotiation. “Sit and get on with whatever reason you are here.”
She hesitated for a brief second, then nodded and lowered herself into the chair across from me, her posture careful, controlled.
Just then, the bathroom door opened, and Camilla stepped out. “I forgot my panties. Do you know—” She froze mid-sentence when she saw Amelia sitting in front of me.
Her eyes narrowed, sharp with disbelief and irritation. “What is your brother’s fiancé doing in your office?” she demanded, glaring at Amelia.
“None of your business. Leave now. I will call you when I need you,” I said, my voice sharp and unwavering.
Camilla’s eyes blazed with anger. “One minute you are treating me like I’m the only woman in the world, and the next, you are dismissing me like shit, because of her?” she yelled, her frustration spilling out.
“I don’t like to repeat myself,” I said, my gaze locked on Amelia, my tone cold. “The consequences are never pleasant. Leave now.”
Camilla’s jaw tightened. Without another word, she stormed toward the couch, snatched her belongings, and walked over to Amelia. Her voice dripped with venom as she spat out, “Don’t think you are anything special. I’m the only woman who can satisfy him. He will just use you and leave, like he does with the other sluts.”
Amelia remained calm, a faint smile playing on her lips, completely unbothered.
Camilla stomped her feet hard on the floor, glaring one last time before turning and walking out, slamming the door behind her with a sharp bang that echoed through the office.
“I guess you didn’t tell her that you’re forcing me to marry you,” she said quietly. “Why force an unwilling woman to become your wife when you have so many women eager to be Mrs. Sinclair?”
I smirked slowly, she had no idea how much she had just exposed herself. What greater punishment could there be than trapping a woman like her in a marriage she never wanted? Making her carry a name she despised, tying her to a future she couldn’t escape.
I looked at her closely, already imagining the day her confidence would crumble. The day she would kneel, broken and desperate, begging me to let her go. But there would be no escape. This wasn’t a phase, it is was a lifetime contract. Once she signed, there would be no turning back.
“Your time is ticking,” I said calmly. “You have three hours left.”
She might have thought I was bluffing, but I wasn’t. If the clock struck seven and her signature wasn’t on that contract, I would make sure there was nothing left of the life she was trying so hard to protect.
“I, I just think there are some things you need to know before I sign the contract,” she said, her voice shaking.
“I don’t care what you have to say,” I snapped. “Sign the damn contract right now.”
I slammed my hand down on the table, the sound sharp and final. She flinched, her shoulders jerking in surprise, but she didn’t argue again. Instead, she reached into her bag with slightly trembling hands and pulled out the documents and a pen.
Without looking at me, she signed where she was told to, when she was done, she slid the papers across the desk toward me.
I picked them up and went through them carefully, my eyes scanning every page. Everything was in place.
“I will give you additional documents outlining the terms and conditions of this marriage,” I said coolly. “You will be moving in tonight. And you will meet my parents again as my wife this weekend.”
She looked up at me immediately, shock written all over her face. “You haven’t said when you are going to speak with the investors or the board members,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “I also haven’t told my parents about us, and I haven’t packed any of my things. I need time, I can move in this weekend.”
I studied her for a moment, noting the way she was trying to negotiate, trying to hold on to some small sense of control.
I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to keep my anger in check. Ever since the doctor told me I might never be able to father a child, something inside me had hardened. The bitterness crept in slowly at first, then took root. I snapped more easily now. My patience was thin, and even my parents had noticed.
They had suggested therapy, but I didn’t want pity. I wanted control.
“You are moving into my house tonight,” I said firmly. “That is not up for discussion.”
She opened her mouth to argue, but I didn’t give her the chance.
“I have more than enough money to buy you new clothes if you are worried about clothes,” I continued coldly. “You will leave the old ones behind.”
Her eyes widened, “And as for your company,” I added, leaning forward slightly, lowering my voice, “your performance and submission in this marriage will decide whether it survives. How high it rises. Or whether it collapses completely.”
