Chapter 109 How Are You?

Chapter 109 How Are You?
“Good morning Luna,” Ruth said pensively.
Mira noticed the look of sadness in Ruth’s eyes. “Morning. What’s the problem?”
“Have you heard the bad news already?” Ruth asked.
Mira shakes her head. "I have heard no bad news today yet, except for what happened last night,” she replied calmly, bracing for unpleasant news to come. “Go ahead, tell me about it.”
“Alpha Gary and Alpha Robin were declared dead by their doctors at the hospital. And Alpha Movin was also dead. He was riding on his horse while drunk last night and accidentally fell down the cliff. Surprisingly the horse only suffered minor injuries but the Alpha was dead. That’s all the bad news today,” Ruth said dejectedly, shaken by the triple death happening in just one night.
Part of Mira rejoices because her enemies have already been annihilated by her pet. But another part of her also feels sad and guilty. She couldn't help it. She felt pity for the families that were left behind.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Mira said tearfully. “Inform me of the schedule of their burials. I would like to attend their burials and give them my last respect,” she ordered calmly.
“Noted,” Ruth said. “Um, there is one more thing you need to know…”
Mira’s forehead creased. “What is it?”
Ruth was hesitating to say it. “Please don’t be offended by the rumors created because of the tragedy that happened last night…”
“What?” Mira raised a brow. “There is a rumor circulating about me? What is the rumor all about?” she asked curiously.
Ruth cleared her throat. “Um, according to the rumor, they say you are a cursed luna. Your husband died too soon, and then your three admirers died that same night. All your future lovers will die as well. They say you are a good leader but a cursed lover. Which means Alphas will be afraid to court you in the future because they might meet their tragic end if they associate themselves with you. It’s just rumors, please don't be offended by them."
If tragedy didn't happen, Mira was ready to erupt in laughter. She tried hard not to laugh. Ruth might have been surprised by her weird reaction if she had just laughed it off.
The best thing to do is to continue pretending that she is innocent. She released a deep sigh. “Ah okay. So that's what they believe? Does it mean I can no longer marry and have an heir because men are afraid of courting me?” she asked, brokenhearted.
Ruth was about to come up with a nice word to comfort Luna Amira but the door opened and the maid came in carrying a food tray.
“Luna, your breakfast is ready!” the maid said cheerfully and put the tray on the table and began to arrange the dishes.
“Thank you for telling me the news, Ruth. Come join me for breakfast,” Mira said, easing into the chair, ready to eat.
“I already had breakfast. See you later, Luna,” Ruth said.
"OK," Mira replied. She picked up the utensils and began eating.
Ruth and the maid left the room and waited outside, discussing rumors about Luna's curse.
Back in the room, Mira was eating to her heart's content. She loved her breakfast dishes today, all her favorites, chicken tenders, scrambled eggs, bananas and pancakes with hot chocolate milk.
Her morning is already perfect.
She would not let the death of her scumbag suitors bring her mood down. As for the curse she started herself, it will work to her advantage. From now on, no Alpha in his right mind will come to court her because they will be afraid of the sinister curse hanging over her head. Good for her, because she doesn't need distraction.
She will only marry if it’s Alpha Gideon. Her one true love.
Period!
She finished eating her delicious breakfast. Her stomach was full. She arranged the plates back on the tray and set them aside.
Sipping her hot drink, she walked to the window and looked around the headquarters, enjoying the gentle morning breeze caressing her skin.
Outside, the leaves of the trees were swaying to the gentle rhythm of the wind. She was still rewarded with a beautiful morning after the tragedy.
As always, she loves her mornings, enjoying the view outside the window of her room while sipping her hot delicious drink.
But Luna Rosie’s battle with cancer, Alpha Gideon’s non-stop begging to save his wife and the recent tragedy involving her three suitors, dampened her spirits a little bit.
Bad days will fade quickly after the burial. People will soon forget about the tragedy and move on with their lives.
Good moments will come and stay.
She still felt optimistic because he had a solid plan. Soon the people will forget the tragedy because she will do her best to help the three struggling packs and create a formidable ally out of them.
After the death of her three suitors, she decided to abandon her original plan to seize the neighboring packs and become their Supreme Luna and build an empire.
Instead, she plans to turn the three packs into her allies. They will have their own government and their own leaders.
The four packs will enter into an alliance to protect each other if invaders come. The enemy of one will be the enemy of all. She will create a solid union that will protect each other during times of war, calamities and economic instability.
And during her visit, attending the burial of the deceased Alpha, she will deepen friendly ties with the three packs.
She’s been good to them in the past during calamities and times of need. She’s willing to help them as their one and only friendly and generous neighbor. This time she will initiate proven methods that can influence the way they run their packs.
She will do it for struggling people, especially the poor members of the pack, the orphans, the sick and old people, single parents, the jobless and so on. She’s been there once and she knows how hard life is without support from anyone and from government.
No one should be left behind!
The three useless lives of the despicable drunkard Alphas were needed as sacrifices for big change coming to the Grayme Pack, Eclipse Pack and the Frost Crown Pack.
She will deliver the much needed change they desperately needed in their lives.
The current and future generation will benefit greatly from the big change she is going to implement in her allies' governance.
Now what she needs is to cultivate friendship and trust with the next leaders of their packs for her worthy cause to succeed.
She will start by attending the burials of deceased Alphas so she can talk to their loved ones and create connections.
…
The following day, she attended the burial of Alpha Robin from the Grayme Pack. It was solemn and his family and relatives were crying sorrowfully on the burial ground. Luna Amira’s presence on the burial ground was well accepted. No one blamed her or showed any kind of anger towards her.
Two days later, Mira attended Alpha Movin’s burial in the pack’s cemetery. The people there were glad that she attended the burial. She didn't receive any negative reception there, just pure mourning and sadness.
However, at Alpha Gary’s burial in the Eclipse Pack cemetery, she finally meets the person who sent her the anonymous tip message.
It was Alpha Gary’s wife, Luna Sherry, the mother of his three surviving children. Her oldest daughter, 16 years old, named Irene was raped by her father Alpha Gary several times in the past three years. Out of anger and wanting revenge for her daughter, Sherry sent a message to Mira, revealing her husband’s bad intentions towards the Moon Star Pack. Mira promises the grieving widow that no one will know about their secret.
Mira’s friendship with Sherry began on the day of her husband's burial.
With Mira’s prodding and encouragement Sherry became the leader of her pack and promised her people swift reforms in her territory by adopting Luna Amira’s proven technique and strategy, using the spirit-lifting mantra, to make Eclipse Pack great again.
On that day, Luna Amira becomes Luna Sherry’s mentor and confidant, helping her in making her pack great again.
…
One month later.
Mira was having a two-day vacation in the lake, frolicking in the refreshing water in her one-piece red swimsuit enhancing her curves.
When suddenly, a black motorcycle arrived at the lake.
“Who is it?” She quickly emerged from the water, wondering who the visitor was. She’s not expecting anyone to come today because it's the weekend. She was not worried though because she assigned guards patrolling around the property, making sure no trespassers could come to her sacred place and invade her privacy.
The guard let this guy in so he is someone they already knew in the past and deemed harmless.
When the guy removed his helmet, her heart skipped a beat.
OMG!
It was her beloved Alpha Gideon!
She scrambled out of the water, grabbed her bathrobe from the picnic blanket and put it on her body.
“It’s nice to see you again!” she shrieked in delight, rushing to his side, smiling brightly. “Why didn't you text me that you would come to visit me?” she asked.
“It’s a surprise visit,” he replied with a smile. “I hope I did not disturb your rest and relaxation,” he apologized, his tone sincere.
“No, of course not. You can disturb me anytime, anywhere. I give you full permission,” she replied in a flirty way.
He chuckled in amusement and got off the bike.
“Come inside. I will prepare a refreshing drink for you,” she said, moving towards the porch of the wooden house.
He followed her to the house, admiring her lovely form, wearing a plastered smile on his lips.
He entered the wooden house as if it were his home where he truly belonged.
Alpha Gideon sat in a chair and scanned the place. Nothing changed. The place still looks the same.
Mira grabbed a pitcher of cold orange juice from the fridge and poured the juice into two glasses. She handed him his drink and put down the pitcher on the center table.
“Thanks,” Alpha Gideon said, sipping on his drink.
Mira sat beside him and studied his handsome face. “Are you here to personally ask me to save your wife?” she asked him directly.
“No.” He shakes his head. “Honestly, I’m tired of begging you. I can see that you don’t want to do it so I stopped pressuring you to save my wife,” he replied calmly.
Mira took a deep breath. “Are you mad at me? Are you upset that I refused to save your wife?” she pressed deeper, wanting to know the truth about how he truly feels about her.
He smiled. “No. I’m not mad at you. I’m not even upset. I totally understand your reasoning. I respect your decision not to do soul swapping because it is against your will.”
She broke into a bright grin, feeling relieved. “Nice to know that. I thought you were mad at me. Now I can finally sleep peacefully at night.”
“I have heard about what happened to your suitors during their friendly fight. They all died on the same night. The interesting part was the rumors that circulated after the tragedy. They say you are a cursed woman. All men involved with you will die at some point in time, that is why you can’t have a husband or a lover. Is the curse true?” he asked, eyeing her seriously.
Mira giggled, amused by the way he looked at her. “The curse was created by some people who had nothing to do with their idle time. It’s not true. I can guarantee you that if one day... you become my husband, you will not die,” she said giggling in amusement, laughing hard as if it was the joke of the century.
Her laughter was contagious, and he ended up joining her laughter.
After the laughter died on their lips…
She looked at him, wearing a serious expression on her face. It is now time to ask a sensitive question.
She cleared her throat. “So, how is your wife? How is she doing right now? Is her condition improving?”
He shook his head. “No. Her condition is not improving at all. She became clingy and didn't want me to leave her side even for a few hours. I just happened to come here and drop you a quick visit because I happen to attend a business conference in the city.”
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that,” she said, sighing heavily.
“No need to feel sorry. It’s not your fault,” he told her in a tone laced with sorrow and anguish.
They both fell silent. The room was enveloped in heavy silence.
Then she broke the silence and said, "Would you like to stay for dinner? I can cook you delicious dishes,” she offered.
“No. I wished I could stay longer, but I have to go now. I have to return to the capital because my wife is waiting for me. She might die at any moment and I’m not by her side,” he said gloomily, standing up.
She felt disappointed.
“You don't want to take a dip in the water even for a few hours?” she suggested, wanting him to stay longer in the lake house a bit longer.
“Not now. Maybe some other time in the future. I will stay here longer for sure,” he assured her.
She bit her lower lip as sadness clouded her eyes. “I’m glad you still want to see me and this place even if I don't want to save your wife. I’m so sorry, I can't save her,” she apologized earnestly.
He took a deep breath and said, “Don’t say sorry. It’s not your fault. I will go now. Take care of yourself,” he said softly.
Tears shone in her eyes. She rushed to him and hugged him tightly. So many things could happen in the future. This might be their last hug together. “Let me hug you for a few minutes before you leave.”
“It’s okay,” he replied, suppressing his lingering feelings for her, patting her back gently.
She rested her head on his chest and said, “Don’t forget me please?" she said, looking deeply into his eyes.
He smiled and planted a kiss on her head. “I will never forget you.”
“Thank you.” She smiled, satisfied by his answer. She slowly released him. “Leave now, so you can go back to the capital quickly.”
“Bye.” He moved towards the door and picked up his helmet.
“Bye. Take care of yourself and drive safely,” she said. Tears of sadness and longing fell from her eyes.
He mounted his bike, put on his helmet and started the bike. He waved her goodbye.
"Byeee!" She watched him ride his bike fast and disappear from her sight like a thief in the night.
Just like that, he left too fast, making her feel like his presence in the house was part of a dream.
But when she entered the wooden house, his empty glass was still on the center table, evidence that she was not dreaming of him. He actually came to the house in person!
She smiled happily. Their interaction with each other was very short but it was embedded in her mind and heart. He still cares deeply for her and she is happy because despite everything he is not mad at her at all.
“I love you so much, it hurts,” she said, her tone filled with sorrow and pain.
She entered her bedroom and cried in her bed, wishing he would magically return and spend the night with her.
But that will never happen as long as Luna Rosie is still alive.
