Chapter 42 Manipulating in the Palm of the Hand
"Really? Let's see if you can stop me."
Emily stood up, calm as ever, and threw out a challenge. "Mr. Reyes, I hope you don't end up regretting this."
She turned to leave.
"Stop her!" Isaac barked at his men.
The men hesitated, clearly uneasy.
Isaac hadn't considered that if he was afraid to act against her, she must have some serious tricks up her sleeve.
How could Isaac still be so rash?
"Mr. Reyes, maybe you should calm down and talk this out with Ms. Johnson!"
"Shut up, you coward." Isaac kicked the man aside and dialed Dax and security.
Soon, more people arrived.
Emily raised her phone. "If you try to stop me, I'll call the cops."
Seeing his men blocking the office door, Isaac sneered, "I've jammed the signal. You really think you can make a call?"
He watched Emily, hoping to see fear.
But Emily just smiled. "Really? Your signal jammer must be a piece of junk."
She dialed the emergency number and put it on speaker.
The call went through.
"Hang up! Hang up!" Isaac's face twisted, unable to comprehend how she managed it.
"Now, can we talk properly? Or do you need a reminder that you might be feeling a bit weak and unsteady?"
As soon as she mentioned it, Isaac felt it.
At first, he thought it was psychological.
But then his hands started trembling, followed by his legs.
He staggered and fell into a chair.
"What did you do? Poison? You know you could go to jail for this." Isaac was struggling but clearly shaken.
"You tried to capture me and have someone take pictures. What do I have to fear? Besides, it can't be traced."
One of his men blinked desperately at Isaac, signaling him.
Isaac understood and slumped on the sofa, defeated. "Alright, state your terms."
Emily was ready.
She opened her phone and sent the files and contract she had prepared to Isaac.
Isaac wasn't surprised she knew his private email and opened the files.
"No way. Byron isn't worth that much. I can just cut him off. I'm not too old; I can train a new heir."
Isaac didn't want to compromise.
Emily hadn't poisoned Isaac.
She was just stating facts. "Just a friendly reminder, while your age doesn't affect fertility, your health does. If any of your mistresses claim to be pregnant with your child, take my advice and get a paternity test immediately."
Isaac, having seen her skills, believed her.
Emily gave him time to think.
"I can give you shares, half of Byron's shares, as medical expenses. But why do you want to be the project leader for the Johnson Group?"
Maybe she wanted to prove herself to the Johnson family.
No matter how capable she was, she was still a girl longing for love.
If Byron managed to woo her...
Isaac's eyes shifted.
"That's none of your business! If you agree, print out the files and contract, sign them, and I'll go treat Byron immediately."
Emily didn't care what Isaac was plotting as long as it didn't involve her interests.
Emily's patience was running thin, and she made it clear with a stern look. "You’ve got five minutes to decide. After that, the deal’s off the table."
Isaac was livid but had no choice. He called his assistant. "Print these files and contracts, and bring them here."
"Yes, sir!" Dax expected a confrontation, but the office was eerily quiet when he returned. Surprised, he quickly took the files to print.
"Now, can you make me feel normal again?" Isaac's hands were still trembling.
Emily stepped forward, tapped a spot on the back of his neck, and flicked her fingers. Isaac inhaled a pleasant scent and instinctively took a deep breath. His hands soon steadied.
Witnessing her mysterious techniques, Isaac's attitude softened. "Sit and wait. Once the contract is signed, we'll head to the Reyes Villa to treat Byron."
Emily didn’t respond right away. Instead, she asked, "Mr. Reyes, how did you know I went to the school? Did Bianca tell you?"
Isaac's eyes flickered. "Your father couldn’t reach you, so I asked around. I knew you were close to Bianca, so I figured she might know something. Looks like I was right."
Emily was amused by Isaac’s shamelessness. He wanted to pit her against Bianca, but he didn't need to do anything extra. Bianca would continue her misdeeds, and Emily was determined to dismantle everything Bianca held dear.
Soon, the assistant returned with the files. Both parties signed the contract quickly. Dax couldn’t help but glance at Emily several times, puzzled by how she got Isaac to agree to such harsh terms. But no matter how long he looked, he couldn’t figure it out.
"Let’s go treat Byron," Isaac said eagerly.
Emily nodded and stood up to leave. Just then, Isaac's phone rang. Seeing the caller, he straightened up and answered with a respectful smile, "What can I do for you?"
Emily paused, turning back to see Isaac’s submissive demeanor. Her curiosity piqued—who could command such respect from him?
"Yes, yes, I’ll come down to greet you. No need? Okay, I’ll have someone let you in right away." Isaac wiped imaginary sweat from his forehead, bowed, and nodded a few times before hanging up. He immediately made an internal call, acting like he was facing a significant challenge.
He instructed Dax to tidy up the office quickly and adjusted his clothes and hair. Then he hurried out, seemingly to greet someone important. As he passed Emily, he remembered she was still there.
"Emily, sorry, but you'll have to wait a bit. You can wait in the reception room."
He couldn’t focus on Emily now, so he quickly instructed her and ran to the elevator. Emily, curious, followed him instead of going to the reception room.
Just as she reached the elevator, the doors opened. Emily looked up and saw Daniel's defined, handsome, and cold face. Her heart skipped a beat.
Why was he here?
