Chapter 187: People Like You, I Find Disgusting
"Chase, are you trying to pressure me? And right when I'm at my lowest?"
Bianca didn't answer directly. Instead, her eyes filled with tears, playing the victim card.
Chase was used to spoiling Bianca, so when he saw her about to cry, his first instinct was to soften up and apologize.
"Bianca, no, I'm not pressuring you. I'm just asking for your opinion, that's all."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Chase regretted it.
Bianca didn't deserve his sympathy. She wasn't as gentle and kind as she pretended to be.
In fact, she was inherently selfish and cold-hearted.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have ignored the suffering he had endured—the red eyes, the hollow cheeks, the clumps of hair falling out.
If she cared about him even a little, she would have noticed.
But these days, she had been avoiding him, either locking herself in her room or running out the door.
"Bianca, I get you, but you should understand me too, right? This whole mess is your fault. I felt bad for you and gave you a chance to fix it. But it's been so long, and you haven't come up with anything. So let's go with Emily's suggestion.
If you hadn't taken credit for Emily's work, we wouldn't be in this situation. And maybe Hayden wouldn't be in such a dilemma, and we could have had Mr. Holt's help!"
Chase finally voiced his true feelings.
For some reason, saying it out loud made him feel a sense of relief.
Bianca looked at Chase with tears in her eyes. "So that's how you really feel, huh? You've been blaming me all along. Chase, if you resent me, why pretend to be so magnanimous? ... Get out! I don't want to see you. You're not the Chase who loved me anymore. Get out!"
Bianca suddenly became agitated, her face pale, coughing violently.
She looked like she was about to collapse from illness.
Chase instinctively took a step forward, but as he moved, he suddenly realized something.
He shouldn't be soft-hearted.
Emily had told him that Bianca was a master at pretending to be sick.
Emily was a doctor; she wouldn't be wrong.
And why was it always so convenient that Bianca fell ill?
Like now, Bianca was clearly at fault, but after Chase spoke a few truths, she became the one who was upset.
And his request was just ignored by Bianca.
Chase thought it through and looked at Bianca coldly.
"I'll leave, but you have three days. I'll give you three days to come up with a way to clear my plagiarism charges, or follow Emily's suggestion and apologize publicly online, and let her help clear my name!"
Chase said his piece and turned to leave.
He didn't care what expression Bianca had behind him.
"Scumbags, all of them! They used to praise me for being smart and sensible, but they were just hypocrites. Since that's the case, I won't bother with any pity anymore."
Bianca was indeed furious, clutching her chest and cursing coldly.
Maybe it was the accumulation of recent misfortunes that made her feel dizzy and nauseous, almost fainting.
She even had bleeding gums while rinsing her mouth twice. Once this mess was over, she needed a good vacation to relax.
Daniel listened to Emily and called Mason as soon as he got home.
Mason was still in the hospital, having undergone a battery of tests. Thanks to Emily's acupuncture treatment, some of his results had improved.
But the cause of his illness remained a mystery.
Even the top-notch doctors Mason had consulted were stumped.
Stubborn as ever, Mason hadn't immediately agreed to more treatment, but he was already considering asking Emily for help.
Just then, Daniel called.
After their last family dinner ended poorly, Mason saw Daniel's call and, pretending to be angry, hung up immediately.
But Daniel didn't give up and called back with a video call.
"This Daniel, he's never been this persistent!"
Annoyed, Mason intended to hang up but accidentally answered the call.
There he was, in his hospital gown, looking haggard, appearing on Daniel's screen.
Daniel had planned to check the home surveillance or ask the housekeeper if Mason refused the video call.
Caught off guard, he saw Mason in his hospital gown.
Mason had always been imposing in front of Daniel.
Seeing him like this, like an ordinary old man, Daniel was momentarily stunned.
Mason realized this and quickly ended the video call while Daniel was still in shock.
It was out of guilt and embarrassment.
He had never appeared this way in front of Daniel before.
It felt like his dignified image was crumbling.
Daniel's expression remained unchanged, but his eyes showed a hint of sadness.
Knowing Mason was hospitalized and that Emily had visited the hospital today, Daniel had someone check which room Mason was in. Given his status, a simple request would yield Mason's detailed information.
Mason worried Daniel might call again, but he didn't. This left Mason feeling uneasy.
"This Daniel, I thought he cared about me, but apparently not. It's infuriating."
Mason couldn't help but complain to the housekeeper.
The housekeeper quickly soothed him. "Mr. Smith, Floyd advised you to stay calm and keep your mood stable for your health."
Knowing Mason was stubborn but cared about Daniel, the housekeeper continued, "Mr. Mason Smith, Mr. Daniel Smith is actually warm-hearted despite his cold demeanor. You didn't see his expression when he saw you were sick; he was clearly concerned. He might be on his way to see you now!"
"Who wants him here? I don't want to see him. Call him and find out where he is. If he's coming to the hospital, I'll leave immediately!"
He couldn't lose face in front of Daniel; that wouldn't do.
The housekeeper regretted his words, realizing they had prompted Mason to want to leave. He wished he could slap himself.
He quickly stopped Mason. "Please, Mr. Mason Smith, if you leave now and Mr. Daniel Smith arrives to find you gone, I'll lose my job as the housekeeper."
The housekeeper had been with the Smith family for a long time, with deep ties.
Because of this, Mason hesitated.
During his hesitation, Daniel arrived.
"Want to go home? Too late!"
Daniel had stood at the door, listening to Mason and the housekeeper's conversation.
