Chapter 269
Chapter 269
Everyone was stunned as they never expected that from her. Ivanna stared at her, feeling that she was implying something. When she thought of her brother’s words, she was stunned and looked at Nadia deeply.
“If you know that you aren’t a Martinez, then why keep doing all these?” she asked as she wanted to see whether her guess was correct or wrong.
Her words stunned everyone in the room as they were too shocked, Nadia included. She panicked as she wondered how the latter knew that she knew the truth. She opened her mouth to say something, but closed it as she didn’t even know what to say. She was afraid that if she asked, that would be the same as saying that Ivanna’s words were correct.
“Is Ivanna saying the truth?” Marcello asked coldly as he stared at the latter, making her tremble as she knew that she might not be able to hide the truth.
They had planned everything. To expose her identity after Ivanna got her revenge, but it seemed that everything had been ruined. They really wanted to know how much Nadia knew before making a decision once more.
“I am sorry. I was afraid that if you knew, I would be chased away,” she said, stunning everyone as they had all hoped that she would act surprised and deny everything, then start asking whether what Ivanna said was the truth.
“When did you know?” Citrine asked, her voice trembling as she wondered whether her ex-husband knew the truth. After all, Nadia had always been close to her father.
“When I was twelve? The school always organizes a health checkup. When we used to study in the same school with my brothers, I saw their blood types after we were taught about blood types. I was very curious and excited. I asked everyone in the family, but not grandma and grandpa, as they were not at home at that time. I realized that I had a totally different blood type from everyone else. I panicked when I did research and saw that it was said that if you had a different one, you might not be related to the person. Adding to the fact that my looks are average while my brothers and parents' looks are outstanding, I realized the harsh reality. I wanted to say something, ask whether I would be chased out when the truth was discovered, but when I recalled how the eldest brother was treated, I knew deep in my heart that I might experience much worse,” Nadia started explaining.
“I wanted a way out for myself, thus I started getting closer to my grandparents and dad, as they seemed to have a lot of properties. I thought that if the truth was one day discovered, I would take everything they gave me and leave. To show them that I was on their side, I started even plotting against my brothers. I am sorry, I was just afraid,” she said, surprising everyone.
Ivanna couldn’t help but think that she had been quite stupid. Why had she never thought of asking about the blood types? She didn’t know whether to blame the latter or sympathise with her as she was only looking for a way out. She also understood that if she had not met with Abby, she might still be living with the Bakers.
What would she have done to change her fate? Wasn’t it fighting for favor with Fiona, making everyone side with her, love her? Especially Mr Bakers, who had a lot of power and say in the family? The more she thought of it, the more she felt pity for Nadia; after all, she was luckier than her.
Also, her family wasn’t as rich as hers. If she were to go to them, not to mention the properties she mentioned, even clothes would have been taken away and sold. She had experienced everything with that family to understand what they would do to them, too.
“That’s where you got it all wrong, girl. Let me tell you what you would have done,” she said, making everyone turn to her.
“You have made everyone love you. Even if you wanted to show your grandparents something, you would have shown them then, when they weren’t present, run to your brothers and share what the old people had given you. Make everyone, from your mother, dad, brothers, grandparents, servants, all love you. That way, even if the truth was discovered, they will not let you go cause they love you so much and take you as their family. You would continue living there as the family’s young lady. When the real heiress comes, get close to her as your own sister, and make her willing to share with you. However, that doesn’t mean that you let her step on you, okay?” Ivanna said, then took a deep breath.
“If she started scheming and trying to get everyone to hate you, just decide to leave. Show them that you are paving the way for her. Even if you left, they would still be willing to pay for your fees, rent, and lifestyle. You gave a way out cause you wanted to maintain your own dignity and make those who love you continue loving you,” Ivanna said, making everyone look at her in confusion.
They all felt that she had been doing all that when she was living with the Bakers, but instead of Fiona getting along with her, she started scheming.
Nadia was stunned when she heard her words. When she thought deeply of the latter’s suggestions, she felt that that would have been the best way. However, with how her grandparents hated her mother and eldest brother, would they have tolerated her getting closer to them?
As if knowing what she was thinking, Ivanna said, “Don’t they love your brothers despite them being close to your mother and eldest brother? You are so naïve, and that’s why they continue using you.”
Nadia was left speechless as she felt that Ivanna was mocking her and calling her stupid. However, when she thought of her actions, it really seemed that she was truly stupid.
“But the mistake is already done. My brothers all hate me, and my mother doesn’t want to see me. Dad thinks that I am a good-for-nothing,” Nadia said as she felt hurt. She had been piling everything in her heart, not having an outlet, and that’s why when she saw everyone, her first thought was to lash out at her brother as she always did.
At the moment, the Martinez brothers sympathized with her but looked at the twins, as they were afraid that they would misunderstand and not approve of their decision.
“Her family is the one who had caused chaos at the school gate last time?” Emric asked the Martinezs and Nadia.
“Mmmh. The resemblance is too obvious,” Kyrell answered.
“Have you met my parents? Are… are they good people?” she asked in a whisper and trembling voice. If they were really good people who could accept and pamper her, she didn’t oppose going to them, as the last few days after her brothers and mother left the mansion, she had realized the cruel reality.
Hearing her words, Ivanna sneered and shattered her wishful thinking, “If you went to live with them, forget about going to school. The things you carry back, even clothes, will be sold so that they can get money out of them. Your father is a drunkard, your eldest brother and second are gamblers. The third is always in the company of the thugs, the fourth, a thief who goes stealing things. Your mother stays lazily at home, drinking and eating. I am so sure that they will turn you into a servant to be washing clothes for them, cleaning the house, and cooking for them,” Ivanna said, making the lady tremble in fear.
“Is it that serious?” she asked.
“You can ask the girl who was here. She has been living with your family for eighteen years before she returned to her biological family, who are the richest in that city,” Averett said, making Nadia glance at him with a stunned expression.
“I don’t want to stay there. Mom, please take me with you. I promise that I will behave,” she said as she cried, making Citrine soften.
How can she not have any feelings for her, and she had been her daughter for years? Now that the latter had repented, she had already forgiven her for everything she had done. However, she didn’t agree as she was going to live as a slave in country F. She wasn’t stupid, she knew that her kids' father wanted her to pay, and the only way was to make her stay beside him, whom she didn’t love at all. She glanced at her eldest son, the sisters, and the other boys as she wondered what decision they had made, as she refused to believe that they had not forgiven the latter.
“Are you helping her to realise her wrongdoings? Do you want her to be your sister?” Isley sneered angrily.
