CHAPTER 38

CHAPTER 38
Maybe Jam already knew he was here, so when he was in front of the office door, and he was about to open it, someone opened it. A woman appeared to him. She was smiling. Her face was peaceful, so he couldn't help but smile at her too.

"Good morning, Sir," she greeted him. The woman’s voice is soothing. Like her face, her voice was also peaceful, as if she had no other worries than to serve her boss, Jam.

Speaking of Jam.

There's his friend. Sitting in the swivel chair with his feet on his desk. There was a smirk on his lips that he wasn't used to seeing. Because this is not the Jam he knew.

The Jam who is his friend is kind, even if he is strict at work. But the Jam in front of him now is screaming arrogance.

"Rebecca, leave us for a while," Jam said to the woman, who immediately obeyed her boss's order. The woman bowed to him before she finally left. "I really like that girl. I wanted Jia to be my secretary, but knowing her attitude, we might not get along, especially since that one is stubborn. But I do really like her. A lot. Meaning, I can give her anything she wants," he said as if he was only talking to himself.

Michael walked closer to his friend. He sat in the chair in front of him before looking around. It was only recently that he entered this office, but it has changed so much now. There was no trace of him in this office.

“What do you want to have, Mr?” The last thing he said was an indication that he was asking his name.

"Rik. Rik Sandoval." He didn't bother to offer his hand to Jam because it didn't seem like he had any intention of reaching for his hand if it happened.

"Rik. Sandoval, huh? Why is your surname different from Michael's? Is there a history?" Jam took his feet off the table and stood up. He walked to the ref and got some wine. His favorite wine. "I bet you drink, don't you?"

Michael shook his head. He adjusted his necktie and loosened it on his shoulder. He was suffocating. He was suffocating from the arrogance of the person in front of him.

"Hmm. But it's too early for wine." He made his voice formal. He didn't want the man to think that he was intimidated by him. Since he died, there have been only a few things he has been afraid of, and Jam is not one of them.

"Is that so? Well, that’s good for you then. At least, if I plan to poison you, I won't be able to do it, especially since you refuse my offer." He laughed loudly as if what he said was funny. His shoulders were still moving because of the laughter.

He doesn't think he was possessed by any demon. It's probably more appropriate to say that he's gone crazy. He must have gone crazy with the money he's raking in now, which isn't for him.

When he probably noticed that he was looking at him, he stopped laughing. He even wiped away tears from the side of his eyes.

"Don’t think that I am a crazy person, okay? I am sane, and not insane. I'm just really happy. Go ahead, guess why I'm happy? If you guess, I'll give you five pesos." He laughed again.

In truth, his hand was itching to grab the man and slap him in the face in the hope that he would come to his senses. But he just stopped himself. He doesn't know if he'll still be able to laugh when he finds out what he's here for in that company.

"Do you give up?"

"Shut the fuck up. I'm not here to drink with you. And I'm especially not here to joke with you. I have my important agenda why I came here, so I don't want you to greet me with your madness."

"Is that so? Oh, how sad." He narrowed his eyes and made a sad expression on his face as if he was very sad at what he said. "I'm not acting crazy, eh." He almost shuddered at the change in his voice. "I am willing to give what you want, Mr. Sandoval. Don’t worry."

Son of a—! What was that? Was what I heard just my imagination playing tricks on me?" he asked himself, especially since the man's voice had returned to its natural voice.

"I want this company. Of course in a legal way, Mr?”

He imitated what he did. To ask what his name was that he could use as a call to the man.

“Aguirre, Jan Aguirre. But call me Jam. You don’t have to be formal especially since you seem to be the boss of all of us here. Am I right?” Michael didn't speak. "I think I already know the reason for your visit here. You want to claim this company, right?”

"I already told you that. And you're right in what you said, that's the reason."

"Well, we won't have any problems with what you want, eh. I will give you what you want, especially since I think you have a document that proves that this company is yours. But can I ask you something?"

He nodded. It's better that this is their conversation. He thinks they will understand each other and there will be no problems between them. As long as he presents the papers.

Michael waited for a few minutes, but Jam still didn't speak. Instead, he stood up and walked to the window and looked outside. He doesn't know what the man is looking at.

"What are you going to ask? Let’s not waste our time here, Mr. Aguirre. I know how busy you are, and so am I, so I can't quite figure out why you need to bother me like this—”

"Did you sell your soul to the devil, Michael, just to get back here and take your revenge?"

He stopped at his question. And even more unbearable to his ears was the name he used to call him.

Michael.
