CHAPTER 34
CHAPTER 34
Michael, who was at the wheel, no longer knew what to do, especially since no matter what maneuvers he made, the car they were in couldn't move any further. He was sure their tires were riddled with holes.
Despite the situation, he thought of those in the back with him, especially Jia. That's why his courage surged when he saw the determination on the young woman's face, who was now looking at the gun.
"Do you have a gun with you there, Mr. Sandoval?" Jia asked in a calm tone.
Michael opened his compartment, revealing his Taurus G3 and MAC-10. And because he was more familiar with using the MAC-10, he handed the Taurus G3 to Brent, which Jia immediately took from him.
"He's not a violent person, and my brother is not allowed to hold a gun. I'll use this."
Despite the hail of bullets on their car, Jia still managed to say that. No fear was visible in her voice, even as the people who ambushed them slowly started to approach.
But his attention is now focused on Brent who is seriously looking straight at him.
Brent's eyes, cold, were fixed on him. He couldn't read any emotion in them, so he knew what was happening. "I will not allow anyone to hurt that girl..." he said, using a tone that Michael knew wasn't his friend speaking. "Tell your guard to come here. We will deal with this case."
"What are you talking ab—" What Jia was about to say was cut short by a sudden explosion not far from them.
Even the car they were in recoiled from the force of the impact, as if a bomb had been dropped in that area.
The people who ambushed them were thrown far away by the force of the explosion. But that wasn't what caught his attention, especially Jia's, whose eyes widened as she stared at the cause of the explosion.
"W-w-wha-what a-are t-those?!" Her voice trembled as she pointed at the still-smoking area where two standing figures were visible from their location. "O-oh m-my g-goodness! T-tell m-me I'm j-just dreaming!" Jia even covered her mouth with her hand because of what she saw.
If his imagination wasn't playing tricks on him, he was sure the two standing figures, as if observing their surroundings, were not human. They weren't human, because who would have wings?!
And those creatures in front of them are not difficult to explain but hard to believe.
He rubbed his eyes.
They were smoking, ablaze.
Blue flame and red flame. The blue flame came from the white-winged creature. While the red flame came from the creatures with different colored wings.
From being back to back, the two creatures faced each other and spoke. But because he couldn't hear anything and only a high-pitched hum dominated his ears, he didn't know what they were talking about.
After a few seconds, the two seemed to understand each other. The white-winged creature looked in their direction, and before he could even recover from the shock, he flinched again as something rattled on their car's roof.
"B-Brent..." She gasped in shock, and she was about to reach for her brother's hand when she felt their car lift, accompanied by her vision going dark.
Brent immediately caught his unconscious sister, while Michael remained calm. He knew what would happen next. And he wasn't wrong, as in less than a second, he was already inside the courtyard of his mansion.
As much as he wanted to see what was happening in the abandoned area where bullets were raining down on Brent's guardian angel and his demon guardian, he couldn't. Because if they stayed there any longer, Jia might get involved. D couldn't revive her anymore, especially since he had already done it once.
He got out first and opened the door for Brent, who was carrying Jia. When the man got down, he was carrying Jia, whom Michael was about to take, but Brent shook his head, so Michael just decided to guide them inside his mansion.
He accompanied the siblings to the guest room that Jia would use before he left the room to cook. He had no one with him in that house except D in human form.
D is working with him like a real person, though he cannot talk to him even if they are in the same house, unless he has something to tell him.
When he reached the kitchen, he started cooking. He was about to get a knife to slice the meat when he paused.
He remembered what happened earlier before they were ambushed in their car. In that part of the abandoned place where he stopped. He was sure it was still bright then. That's why he couldn't hide his surprise when Jia noticed it was already night.
"Could it be that aside from D, there's another being around me?" he asked himself.
"You're not mistaken in that thought, Michael. And I'm sure that creature is the cause of your death."
"What do you mean, Brent? And who was that guide who helped us earlier besides D? Is he yours? And when did you know this was me? What happened to you?" he asked him in quick succession.
Instead of answering his many questions, his friend walked to the fridge and took out vegetables. Afterward, he got a pot, filled it with water, and placed it on the stove.
Brent also went to the jar where he kept his pasta and got macaroni.
"Let's cook soup. Jia likes that. Grill some meat too. Make a lot because it's not just the three of us who will eat," he ordered him, as if he owned that house.
Instead of asking again, he just did as he was told.
"I know you're confused about me, Michael, I'm also confused, not just about myself but also about you. We'll talk, don't worry, but not now..."
He nodded in agreement.
