Dual Shadows

The revelation of the dark version of Lucian sent shockwaves through the team. Peter's hand instinctively went to his sword, his eyes narrowing as he faced the twisted mirror image of his ally. The dark Lucian stepped closer, his presence suffocating, his every movement exuding power.

“What… what is this?” Carly stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lucian, the real one, clenched his fists, his jaw tightening as he stepped forward. “This isn’t possible. You’re not me.”

The dark figure smirked, tilting his head as if amused by the declaration. “Oh, but I am, Lucian. I’m everything you’ve tried to suppress. Your anger, your ambition, your hatred for the Hoods… and your father.”

Lucian flinched at the last word, the accusation striking a nerve. “You’re lying.”

“Am I?” The dark Lucian spread his arms, his voice dripping with mockery. “You’ve always felt it, haven’t you? That pull to darkness. That desire to take control, to destroy those who stand in your way. I’m the part of you that you’ve buried, but the Shadow Prism brought me to life.”

Peter stepped forward, his voice firm. “I don’t care what you are. If you’re a threat, we’ll deal with you.”

The dark Lucian laughed, the sound cold and menacing. “You think you can stop me? You couldn’t even stop yourselves from tearing each other apart.” His gaze shifted to James. “Isn’t that right, James? Tell me, how did it feel betraying your friends for a chance at glory?”

James stiffened, his guilt and anger warring within him. “You don’t know anything about me.”

“Oh, I know more than you think,” the dark Lucian replied, his grin widening. “But this isn’t about you. It’s about him.” He pointed at Lucian, his expression turning deadly serious. “And the choice he’ll have to make.”

Before anyone could react, the dark Lucian raised his hand, and the chamber erupted in chaos. Shadows sprang to life, forming twisted creatures that lunged at the team.

“Defensive positions!” Peter shouted, drawing his sword.

The team sprang into action, their training and instincts taking over. Williams and Carly worked in tandem, their spells weaving through the air as they held back the shadow creatures. Bella moved with precision, her daggers striking with deadly accuracy.

Lucian found himself face-to-face with his dark counterpart, their blades clashing in a flurry of sparks.

“You can’t win,” the dark Lucian sneered, his movements almost too fast to follow. “You’re fighting yourself, and I’m the stronger part of you.”

Lucian gritted his teeth, pushing back with all his strength. “You’re not me. You’re just a manifestation of my fears and doubts. And I’ve faced worse than you.”

The battle raged on, the team slowly gaining the upper hand despite the relentless onslaught. But the dark Lucian was relentless, his power fueled by the Shadow Prism’s energy.

“We need to destroy the Prism!” Peter shouted, his sword slicing through a shadow creature.

“Easier said than done!” Bella retorted, dodging a clawed swipe.

James glanced at the Prism, its pulsing light almost hypnotic. He clenched his jaw, a plan forming in his mind.

“Cover me!” he yelled, breaking away from the group.

“James, wait!” Carly called after him, but he was already moving.

James sprinted toward the Prism, dodging and weaving through the chaos. He reached it just as a shadow creature lunged at him. With a swift motion, he drew a rune in the air, creating a barrier that held the creature back.

“Come on, come on,” he muttered, his hands trembling as he worked to dismantle the Prism’s protective wards.

The dark Lucian noticed his actions and snarled. “No!” He broke away from Lucian, moving toward James with deadly intent.

Peter intercepted him, his sword clashing against the dark Lucian’s blade. “You’re not getting anywhere near him.”

“Out of my way, wizard,” the dark Lucian growled, his strength overwhelming Peter’s defenses.

But Lucian was there, his blade striking against his counterpart’s. “You’re not him,” Lucian said, his voice filled with determination. “And you never will be.”

The two Lucians fought with renewed intensity, their movements a blur as they matched each other strike for strike.

Meanwhile, James had managed to disable the final ward. The Prism’s light dimmed slightly, but it still pulsed with energy.

“Almost there,” he whispered, his fingers brushing against the artifact.

But the moment he touched it, a surge of energy coursed through him, and his mind was flooded with visions. He saw the Prism’s creation, its purpose, and the destruction it had caused throughout history. He also saw a glimpse of the dark Lucian’s true nature—a fragment of the Prism’s power, twisted and given form.

“James!” Carly’s voice broke through the visions, snapping him back to reality.

He turned to see her fighting off a shadow creature, her strength beginning to waver.

“I’m fine!” he called back, focusing on the task at hand.

With a final, desperate effort, James channeled his magic into the Prism. The artifact began to crack, its light flickering erratically.

“No!” the dark Lucian roared, his fury palpable.

Lucian took advantage of the distraction, landing a devastating blow that sent his counterpart reeling.

“Do it, James!” Peter shouted.

James poured everything he had into the Prism, his magic overwhelming its defense
