Chapter 123

Chapter 123
Amara’s POV.

With the rage I felt, I leaped into the air and gracefully landed in front of my opponent. It let out a pained groan as I sank my teeth into its neck, draining the life out of it.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted another rogue taking aim at me. I flipped through the air, narrowly avoiding its attack. The rogue crashed onto the ground with a resounding thud, much to my satisfaction. The enraged rogue growled at me. It lunged at me once more, but I effortlessly sidestepped its attack. Seizing the opportunity, I targeted its left eye. Once again, its howl of agony echoed through the air as my attack hit its mark. To bring an end to its suffering, I bit its neck, extinguishing its life on the spot.

The battle didn’t last as long as I had anticipated. After just half an hour, we were able to successfully defend the pack with the help of Phoenix and the Vampire Clan.

I jumped onto the balcony of our room. Damien wasn’t here because he was in the monitoring room. I changed into my wolf form and snaked my way into the walk-in closet, picking out an outfit to wear, and changed back.

I was fixing my hair when a knock caught my attention, so I looked towards the closed door.

"Luna?"

I furrowed my brows before responding to the familiar voice coming from outside. "Lucian?" I called out, recognizing his voice.

"Get ready, Luna. Everything is prepared for the ritual Lady Odessa mentioned," he informed me.

I let out a sigh. "I’m coming. Thank you," I replied and hurriedly finished fixing my hair.

"No problem, Luna," he replied and I heard his footsteps fade away.

I pursed my lips and gazed at my reflection in the mirror. It was the first time I paid attention to the change in the color of my eyes. They were a different color now, the same as they were in my past life.

The thought of Damien looking into my new eyes brought a bitter smile to my face. Would he find the same pleasure in it as much as he did before, when our eyes met? I wanted to share my life story with him so bad.

I sniffed and looked up to hold back my emotions. "Do you need me to comfort you again? I’m not at your beck and call, you know?"

I chuckled at Ruby’s remark. "Shut up. You always know how to crash the party," I joked.

She tsked at me. "I’ll tease you whenever I feel like it. And don’t be too dramatic, it doesn’t suit you."

I shook my head and didn’t engage further. I knew she only wanted to comfort me despite her snarky tone.

"Not that I care," she quipped.

I laughed inwardly at her antics. Ruby was a vixen through and through.

I wiped away the tears, taking a deep breath to steady myself. Then, I walked towards the door, descending the stairs towards the recovery room. Everyone I passed by, the pack members and healers respectfully bowed and greeted me, to which I responded with a polite smile and a nod.

Entering the long hallway lined with rooms leading to the recovery area, my eyes caught sight of the familiar faces, including Dane and Layla, who were there tending to the wounded. The marks of metal blades were often the cause of the wounds inflicted on the werewolves brought here.

Layla noticed me and nodded in greeting, which I returned with a nod, before gesturing that I was heading to the room where Damien was. Though I wanted to help with the healing of the injured, my priority was to be by my husband’s side. I took a deep breath, knocked on the door, and turned the handle to enter.

Inside the room, Odessa stood by Damien’s side, holding a black book. Simon was present too, closing the sliding door and curtains of the balcony. Enna and Ralph also remained inside.

Odessa’s gaze met mine. She raised an eyebrow in curiosity, and I approached her cautiously.

"What are we going to do?" I asked quietly.

She grinned at me, making me suspicious of her trustworthiness.

"It’s a simple ritual. We just need to unlock your powers," she replied, reaching for a small cup and a small dagger.

I just watched her every move and waited, my curiosity growing.

"Simon, hold this," she called to him, and he promptly approached, taking the cup from her.

I raised an eyebrow, glancing subtly at my cousin who seemed mesmerized by Odessa. I sighed. He looked like a loyal dog following its master’s every command.

It seemed yet another pack member had fallen in love. Tsk.

I was slightly taken aback when Odessa took my hand and placed the small dagger on it. I looked up at her with a puzzled expression, but she quickly clarified and fed my curiosity.

"I told you it’s just a simple ritual. Since you are blessed, all you need is something to activate your essence. Cut your palm and let your blood drop into the cup. Then it will be my turn to pray," she explained, making me cringe.

I wasn’t a vampire, after all. While I could taste blood when I bit my enemies, I always spat it out. Drinking actual blood was a whole different level.

She shot me a glare. "Don’t be so squeamish. Hurry up so we can help outside," she said grumpily.

I glanced at Damien before following her instructions. carefully made a small cut on my palm, allowing droplets of blood to fall into the cup. The wound quickly healed since the dagger I used wasn’t made of metal. Odessa then took the dagger from me and made a cut on her own palm. I saw her wince slightly.

It must be painful for her since she wasn’t a werewolf. My heart warmed at the thought. She had been a big help to us, and I was truly grateful for her.

She placed her bleeding palm over the cup and closed her eyes. The three of us observed in silence as she began to pray or recite words that we couldn’t understand. It must have been an old chant.

I felt the temperature drop even though the door and balcony were closed. Since we were facing each other, I could see the slow dripping of her blood into the cup, mingling with mine. With each drop, it caused the liquid to shimmer like blue fire. I was amazed by what I was seeing.

When Odessa finished her prayer, the fire in the cup disappeared, and the red blood was replaced by a blue liquid.

"Woah!" Simon seemed equally astonished by what he was witnessing.

"Repeat after me, then drink," Odessa instructed, and I nodded in response.

I silently read the words, preparing myself for what was to come.

"Dear Mighty, I accept thy blessings. Power and authority shall course through my veins."

I took a deep breath and echoed her words. As the last syllable left my lips, I quickly consumed the liquid in the cup. Almost instantly, I felt the warmth travel down my throat and spread throughout my entire body. I winced slightly and instinctively placed a hand on my chest. It wasn’t painful, but rather a tangible sensation of the liquid’s effect.

I blinked as I was momentarily blinded for no apparent reason. I turned to a nearby mirror and to my surprise, my eyes now shimmered blue. It took a few minutes for the warmth to subside.

I sat on the bed next to Damien and looked at Odessa with a mixture of confusion and wonder. Her proud expression told me that something had occurred.

"What?" I questioned, seeking an explanation.

"Didn’t you notice? Your hair color has changed," Enna answered instead. "You’re indeed the last wielder."

Upon hearing that, I returned my gaze to the mirror. I blinked a few times. My hair had turned into a striking shade of Irish blue. It wasn’t bad; in fact, it seemed to suit me.

"Is a change in appearance a requirement?" I joked, earning a smirk from Odessa.

"Enough chatter. Wake up your husband," she said curtly, pointing towards Damien.

Oh, right! I had almost forgotten.

I silently cursed, my gaze shifting to my husband. I raised my palm above his chest and blew air, feeling the pressure of my first attempt at casting a magical power. Nervousness fluttered in my stomach.

Minutes passed, and nothing seemed to happen. I glanced at Odessa and shook my head, a hint of worry in my eyes. She understood my silent plea.

"Just relax. Try to concentrate. It’s hard to cast a spell the first time," she said, tapping my shoulder to encourage me.

I inhaled and exhaled, centering myself before focusing on Damien once more. We all held our breath, waiting.

"Take a breath and visualize this. Starting from your mind, imagine you want to give something. Then let that energy flow into your hand," she guided me.

I nodded and followed her instructions. I smiled in amazement as I saw the blue energy forming in my palm. Slowly, I placed my hand on Damien’s chest.

With bated breath, we waited for this to fall into place. Our hopes riding on the success of this moment, for I knew not what I would do if it failed.

After a few heart-stopping moments, I saw Damien’s finger twitch, and his eyes slowly fluttered open. Overwhelmed with relief and joy, tears welled up in my eyes as I buried my face in his chest. I felt his embrace and his comforting pat on my back.

"Hush, I’m here," he whispered, his voice a soothing balm to my worried soul.

He had finally awakened.
