Chapter 124
Chapter 124
Amara’s POV.
"Are you alright, honey?" Damien asked, sitting beside me on the sofa in the living room.
It had been two days since he regained consciousness, and I was grateful to the Moon Goddess for bringing him back to me.
I turned my attention back to the laptop resting on my lap, and I noticed him leaning in slightly, peeking at what I was doing.
"You’re planning a party for him," he said. It was more of a statement than a question.
I nodded. "I told you all about it, didn’t I?"
I locked eyes with him, and he didn’t shy away from my gaze.
"Is that alright with you?" I asked once more, seeking his approval.
He looked at me for a few moments before shaking his head.
"Anything is fine as long as it makes you happy. Besides, I’m sure our children will love it," he replied, causing a smile to light up my face.
"That’s absolutely true," I said with excitement.
I heard him let out a sigh, causing me to bite my lower lip.
"What’s on your mind?" I asked curiously, eager to know what was bothering him.
He glanced at me before reclining on the sofa, resting his head against the cushions and staring up at the ceiling. I returned my focus to my task, waiting for him to open up.
"I’ve been wondering… Does it mean you’re a blessed child of Thea? Are you more powerful than me, then?" he questioned.
I couldn’t help but laugh. "I highly doubt that, Damien. You’re naturally strong. You were born to lead."
He shook his head. "Honey, trust me. I am not the most powerful being in this world. It’s fine, though. Somewhere out there, there’s someone who can take me down."
His tone worried me slightly. It was unusual for him to doubt himself like this. I let out a sigh and closed the laptop on my lap, turning my full attention to him. I reached out my hand, gently running my fingers through his hair.
"Is something troubling you? You can talk to me about it," I said softly.
He didn’t immediately respond to my question. Instead, he looked at me again, his eyes weary.
I gave him a smile. "Everything will be alright," I assured him.
To my surprise, he moved closer and wrapped his arms around me, resting his head on my neck. I could feel his warm breath against my skin. A secret smile formed on my lips. He was being vulnerable, and I cherished these moments when he allowed himself to be vulnerable with me. And truthfully, I loved it.
"What if I am unable to protect you? What if I fail in my duty to keep our family safe?" he fretted, causing a pang in my chest. "What if one day, I become useless? Will you abandon me? Will I be left to my own demise?"
Tears welled up in my eyes. How could he even entertain such thoughts? We had faced countless challenges together, not just within our pack or against enemies, but within ourselves as well. Was I going to give up on us now? Was I going to contemplate leaving him? My love for him ran so deep that I couldn’t imagine myself loving anyone else. Perhaps I loved him more today than yesterday.
"Damien, please listen," I said.
I sniffed slightly, trying to hold back my emotions. I didn’t want him to see how close I was to breaking down.
I spoke earnestly, "Don’t you ever say such things again. You’re not worthless. You’re doing everything in your power, so please, stop doubting yourself."
He tightened his embrace around me. "I love you," he whispered.
I smiled and tapped his arm. "You already know my answer," I replied.
He pouted, pretending to sulk. "You’re not returning the favor. I see," he teased.
I couldn’t help but laugh at his reaction. "Oh, right," I said, suddenly remembering something.
There was something I had been meaning to ask him. I gently freed myself from his embrace and looked into his eyes.
He raised an eyebrow, curious. "What is it?"
I grinned mischievously, which made him furrowed his brow. "How do I look with my new hairstyle?" I asked, unable to contain my excitement.
He blinked in surprise, then burst into laughter. I frowned, feeling a hint of annoyance.
Was he laughing at me?
I rolled my eyes, growing irritated. "What’s so funny?"
He continued to chuckle, seemingly unfazed by my irritation.
"You!" I exclaimed.
Just a moment ago, he didn’t want me to leave him, but now, he was pissing me off. Well, let’s see how he feels if I actually leave him. He’ll be the one in tears. I pinched his side, causing him to groan in pain.
That serves you right!
"What now?!" I exclaimed angrily.
He chuckled softly and sat down, gently taking hold of my hands to prevent me from lashing out again. His touch momentarily calmed me.
"You always look beautiful to me," he complimented, his words causing a brief pause in my anger.
I cleared my throat, and pulled my hands away from his grasp. I nodded, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of knowing how much his words affected me.
"Well, I’m glad," I replied casually, trying to brush off his teasing, which only made him laugh even more.
"Are you satisfied with my answer?" he teased playfully.
I stuck my tongue out at him in jest, unable to resist his infectious laughter.
"Alpha!"
The sound of the urgent voice snapped us both out of our moment. I stiffened and blinked my eyes shut. I knew this situation all too well. I knew what that word meant. Sometimes, I despised hearing Damien being called as the Alpha, as it often meant news that could be either good or bad.
"What?" Damien asked the pack warriors, who were still catching their breath, looking at us.
"Young Master and Young Lady, with Samael, have been abducted," one of them reported.
I stood up upon hearing that, my heart pounding with fear.
"No!" I managed to say, my voice trembling. "Damien…"
I grabbed Damien’s hand and looked at the pack warrior waiting for his orders.
"We need to act quickly," he said, his voice steady as he gave orders to the pack warrior. "Gather all the pack warriors and call Ryder. We can’t let them get far. Stay vigilant, it could be a trap."
The pack warrior nodded, acknowledging the orders, before swiftly leaving the room. Damien turned to face me.
"Inform your team. This will be the final battle between us. I’ll go out first to monitor the situation. Will you be alright?"
I nodded, trying to steady my breathing and push aside the fear threatening to overwhelm me. I mustered a small smile.
"Don’t worry about me. I’ll call Masha, Phoenix, and Layla to get the medical equipment ready," I assured him.
He then kissed me on the forehead. "Stay safe," he whispered before running out of the pack house.
I quickly reached for my phone and dialed Layla’s number.
"Layla, please make sure we have everything–" I didn’t get to finish my sentence as she cut me off.
"I’ve got it covered. Don’t worry," she replied confidently.
I furrowed my brows slightly, sensing something off in her response, but I pushed it aside for now. There were more pressing matters at hand. I’ll deal with her later.
"Thanks," I simply said before ending the call.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Masha entered the pack house. Great timing. I didn’t need to call her. She must have already known what had happened. I sighed and approached her.
"Did you manage to find out where they took my pups?" I asked.
She looked at me solemnly before taking a seat on the sofa and putting on her earpiece.
"I sent Astra and Max to investigate. Just be prepared. It seems like they’re planning to bring this fight to an end. Axel brought all his men. We need to be cautious because there are vampires and black witches on their side. They even released prisoners in exchange for their allegiance."
I chuckled bitterly. It was a clever move on their part.
"Is there anything else?"
"Hazona or Amara, or whoever you are," she looked into my eyes. "Be careful, and don’t get hurt."
I smiled at her. She always looked out for me, always cared.
"I’ll be fine. Thank you for everything, Masha," I expressed my heartfelt gratitude to her.
Her face softened, and she gave me a slight glare. "Just go already," she said with a hint of disgust in her voice, which I chose to ignore.
"I’m off to go," I bid her farewell, turning to leave.
I decided not to shift into my wolf form this time, as I needed to use my powers. They were inaccessible to me in my wolf form.
"Great! Now I feel useless," Ruby sarcastically snarled in my mind.
I couldn’t help but smirk. "We need to take Natasha down. Don’t you want that?"
"Let her down. Make sure to win."
Rolling my eyes at her tone, I replied, "Of course, Ruby."
"Amara, I’ve got your pups, except for Samael," Astra communicated through our mindlink.
"Got it!" I replied, picking up my pace.
Suddenly, I heard an explosion near the border, causing me to stop in my tracks. Without hesitation, I ran towards the source of the sound. I needed to get there fast.
A few moments later, my eyes caught sight of the vast field that lay before me, the final hurdle that I needed to pass through before reaching the border. It was a chaotic scene, engulfed in flames, billowing smoke, and flying shards of metal.
Amidst the chaos, I spotted Ryder and Henry in a battle with the rogues, their claws and fangs on display as they moved with astonishing swiftness, like the wind itself.
Across the field, I could see Phoenix and the others living up to their legendary reputation. I couldn’t help but smirk in admiration. In situations like these, they truly proved why they were called legends.
My attention then shifted to Damien, transformed into his wolf form. He was fighting with a wolf nearly his equal in size. It was definitely Axel. The clash between them was intense.
Not far from them, Amelia, Ralph, Lucian, and Odessa fought valiantly in their human forms, utilizing their incredible speed, while Odessa wielded her powerful magic.
I was about to join them and lend a hand when I felt a familiar energy coming towards me. Instinctively, I evaded the attack, a smirk forming on my face as I recognized who had attacked.
Who else could it be?
"Natasha."
She raised an eyebrow, a sneer playing on her lips. "You’re alive. I see..."
"Surprised to see that I’m still alive?"
"For now, perhaps."
I laughed mockingly. "Oh, Natasha, you underestimate my resilience. This won’t be the last time you see me."
She rolled her eyes at me. "We’ll see about that," she retorted.
I nodded in agreement and cracked my knuckles. "Indeed, because this time, I will be the one to end you."
