Chapter 57 ...
Selene's pov
I kept waiting for Ethan to give an explanation of what's going on, my eyes could not leave his hand which rested perfectly on her thighs.
I had completely forgotten that a person named Mallory existed until some seconds ago.
Ethan seemed to catch my reason for seething by the door, he removed his hand from her lap immediately.
He jerked from his reading chair.
"Selene, I didn't know you'd be back so early, you didn't knock."
Back early? Is he being for real?
I spent an extra thirty minutes in school, and was not myself because I thought he'd be losing his mind over my late arrival.
How long has she been here for him not to notice that I was actually late.
I was still waiting for an explanation.
"Mallory was helping me with some topics before you came in." Ethan stated.
A slight frown creased my brow
"It didn't sound like you two were studying when I walked in."
Mallory came down from the table.
"We were just talking about that time, when we were kids, Ethan used to be so intelligent, I guess me leaving Wellsbury affected him a lot."
"He's getting better now, as you can see." My voice dripped with acid.
Mallory kept on smiling and it pissed me the hell off.
"I can help, if you don't mind. Since you aren't around during the day." Mallory offered.
Ethan was quick to butt in.
"That will be splendid, I get bored just studying by myself all day till Selene gets back."
I quickly cut him off.
"No, different tutors would mess up his brain, trust me, I know what I'm doing."
Mallory gave a somewhat forced chuckle.
"It still depends on Ethan, if he wants me to assist."
What is she trying to do? Push me out of Ethan's life or what?
Ethan scratched his head awkwardly, I've never seen him so indecisive before about anything.
When with his friends, he was always direct about how he wants things to be.
"It's okay with me, I don't mind." Ethan finally said.
My mouth parted in disbelief, he can't be serious.
I tried to hide my dissatisfaction about it.
I don't want Mallory to drive any joy from my uneasiness, so I finally closed the door behind me and walked towards the bed.
I didn't join them on the table.
I avoided Ethan's eyes, no way I'm going to forgive him easily about this.
"Now that I think about it, it's actually a good idea. It'll relieve me of some work. Thank you Mallory."
She flashed me her gorgeous smile again.
"So, you've moved to Wellsbury already."
It was more of a question than a statement.
Seeing how she's already in Ethan's room a day after we returned from the beach house.
"Yeah, dad let mom have our old house, which is not quite far from here, so I can come hang with you guys sometimes."
Huh? Did she just say you guys?
I don't remember being added to her friend list.
"That's wonderful, what about school?"
I need to know everything as soon as possible.
She sat back on the reading table and crossed her legs.
"Well, mom suggested that I resume back to St Baltimore's.”
"Yeah, I know that school, an only girl's school, their academic records are quite impressive."
"I know, but I'll be starting Brooklyn high when Ethan gets off suspension, I feel it'll be good for me, we discussed it before you came in."
We?
Wow, not that anyone can stop her from going to the school of her choice, I'm just stunned that Ethan doesn't see how this affects me."
She clapped her hands.
"I told the maid to make Ethan's favourite snack, why don't we go downstairs to see."
I stood on my feet.
"Sure."
Mallory went ahead of us and we followed, I should go change out of my uniform first.
Ethan quickly stopped me from going out.
"I can explain." His eyes darted around.
"There's no need to, she did already."
"It's not how you think."
I shrugged off his hold forcibly.
"Of course not, she's your friend and there's nothing going on between you two, yet she's always hovering around you."
"I can say the same for Vale, oh wait, the both of you are some kind of couple."
I raised a finger to the bridge of his nose.
"Don't turn this around on me, Ethan. My case is different and you know it."
He gave a sarcastic scoff.
"Please, how is it different, the entire school knows you both are girlfriend and boyfriend, I'm just the dude you fuck at home to get your pleasure."
My hand reached out and hit his face hard, I know I shouldn't have, but I did and I don't regret it.
"Selene." He called after me as I went to my room, but I didn't answer.
I let out a shuddering breath when I entered my room.
'Keep it together, Selene. Don't let Mallory suspect anything, or get a hint of you being jealous.'
To her, Ethan and I are just siblings.
If I continue snapping at her, she might get an inkling of what's really happening.
I did a bit of deep breathing before changing out of my uniform.
A quick shower did my body some good.
Downstairs, there were some tarts and a few foreign snacks I wasn't familiar with.
I never knew that Ethan had a favourite snack, most times he just gobbles up whatever I give to him.
Mallory gestured to the wide spread on the living room centre table.
"Help yourself."
I was about to when my phone started ringing in my pocket.
It was Vale so I answered.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Hello beautiful, I'm parked outside."
"What?" I shouted.
He can't be here. At least not now.
"You left your assignment note in the car, so I want to return it."
Shit.
I quickly ended the call.
Concern etched on Mallory's face as I ended the call.
"Who was that?"
"No one." I lied.
I went to the windows and pushed the curtains aside, there he was resting on the side of his car door.
I didn't know Mallory was directly behind me
"Wow, he's hot.”
