Chapter 643

Chapter 643

Elizabeth fell silent.

She was a bit confused by the woman's confrontation.

Even Alice looked at her mom with embarrassment. When Alice looked at the woman, her expression seemed a little timid.

But the woman immediately apologized: "I'm sorry, I didn't control my emotions very well."

Elizabeth smiled: "What's wrong? What happened?"

The woman sighed: "Mrs. Windsor, I'm just a working-class person. I really can't compare with you rich people. You see, the day before yesterday my daughter stepped on your husband's shoe, and I squatted down to wipe his shoe, but your husband looked down on me."

Elizabeth remained calm: "Is that what's bothering you?"

The woman said coldly: "How could that be!"

After a pause, she continued: "I'm just stating the facts. Wealthy rich people and us working-class folks are from two different worlds. I've never thought about fitting into your circle, and I never will! Even if I'm so poor I have to beg, I won't go begging at rich people's doors."

Elizabeth: "Ms. Radcliffe, what are you trying to say?"

Juliana's mom continued: "So I'm begging Mrs. Windsor, could you please tell those wealthy ladies on Facebook that I really, really, really won't join their group! Okay?"

"I really don't have time. I'm very busy with work every day, and I'm raising my child alone."

"I don't have extra money to compare bags, compare various things, or even compare men."

"I don't."

Elizabeth smiled with an encouraging expression: "Okay, I'll help you."

Only then did the woman breathe a sigh of relief. She thanked Elizabeth coldly: "Thank you!"

With that, she took Juliana's hand and was about to enter the kindergarten.

Elizabeth fell silent.

Thinking back to when she herself was cold and aloof, it was only to defend against outside bullying. Whenever someone gave her even the tiniest bit of light, she would be overjoyed.

But this woman—she was truly cold and aloof.

Impressive.

Elizabeth smiled to herself.

"Mommy!" Alice called out to Elizabeth in dissatisfaction.

"What is it, baby?"

"You didn't kiss Juliana!"

Elizabeth fell silent.

She patiently coaxed Alice: "Baby, you saw that Juliana's mom isn't very easy to get along with. If I forced a kiss on Juliana, the police would charge mommy with harassment. Understand?"

Alice nodded: "Okay mommy, I forgive you!"

Elizabeth: "Go on in. Mommy won't walk you to your classroom today. Mommy's going to be late."

"Bye mommy!" Alice ran into the kindergarten.

Before Elizabeth could turn the corner, she saw Juliana's mom had already come out of the classroom. Elizabeth originally wanted to greet her, but thinking about how cold and proud the woman was, she decided against it.

Sure enough, when the woman passed Elizabeth, she only nodded slightly and moved aside to leave.

Elizabeth smiled behind her: What a unique woman.

Then she headed to the corner where Gavin was waiting for her.

After walking about fifty steps, Elizabeth heard someone calling her.

"Alice's mom, Alice's mom."

Elizabeth turned around and saw Lyra.

Elizabeth didn't usually like Lyra much, so her tone was a bit impatient: "Alice's mom, I'm already running late for work today. What do you need?"

"Alice's mom, I know that since that incident last time, you haven't really liked us, but I swear on my character that we really haven't been dramatic since then. The group we created doesn't show off bags or wealth. We just discuss tips on raising kids."

Elizabeth fell silent.

Lyra continued: "I wasn't forcing her to join our little group anyway, because it's all voluntary, right? But do you know what Susan came back and told me once? She said that little Juliana seemed a bit unhappy at school."

"We... we actually just wanted to communicate with Juliana's mom. She's a single mother, yes, but as women ourselves, we just wanted to help her."

Seeing how sincere Lyra sounded, Elizabeth suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.

"I'm sorry. I misunderstood you all."

"It's okay, it's okay." Lyra smiled: "Alice's mom, you're a good person. Don't think I'm being nosy, but I feel like Juliana's mom's coldness is very different from your coldness back then. She just transferred here recently, just over a week ago. It seems like since Juliana transferred here, she's become very close with Alice."

Elizabeth fell silent.

Susan sighed: "I'm just giving you a heads up. Don't think I'm being nosy, don't be annoyed. Maybe there's nothing wrong at all, but being a bit more careful isn't a bad thing. Alice's mom, you need to keep a close eye on Alice, really keep an eye on her."

With that, Lyra looked at her watch and said goodbye: "I have a job now too. I need to go."

Elizabeth fell silent.

Lyra's words reminded Elizabeth of what Harper and Julia had said to her at the mall the day before yesterday.

Harper and Julia's view of Juliana's mom was the same as Lyra's.

"What's wrong?" Gavin said.

After a pause, she said: "Let's go, take me to work. I'm already late. This can't happen again. Otherwise people will think that because I'm Simon's cousin and I'm the boss lady Julia's best friend, they'll think I'm abusing my privileges."

"Okay." Gavin smiled.

He drove Elizabeth to the company all the way. When they arrived and she got out of the car, Elizabeth happened to see Robert.

She hadn't seen Robert in a week.

"Where's Gideon?" Elizabeth asked right away.

"He went back to Paris." Robert said hesitantly.

Elizabeth: "Not going to find Nicole! He actually went back to Paris. Why go back to Paris—to see that Isabella!"

Robert immediately defended Gideon: "You're really wronging me here. My uncle only went back to Paris yesterday afternoon, and it was to accompany your... your grandfather to Paris for medical treatment."

Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat.

After a pause, she asked: "What... happened to him?"

Robert sighed: "Think about it—he's ninety years old, mistook his granddaughter, and almost got his real granddaughter killed. Finally found his daughter, and she won't acknowledge him. That kind of blow—if it weren't for someone like Declan who's weathered many storms, he would have collapsed long ago."

Elizabeth said indifferently: "That's the path he chose himself, isn't it?"

"That's true, so this time Gideon went back to Paris, it was to take him there for emergency medical treatment. Simon went along too." Robert said.

At the mention of Simon, Elizabeth immediately thought of the two lollipops that Juliana had given Alice with "Grandpa Jones happy" written on them.

And that cold woman whose name she still didn't know.

Elizabeth immediately asked Robert: "Do you know if Simon has any other relatives?"
