Chapter 56 This Is Our Child
Chapter 56 This Is Our Child
Marcus stood silently in the distance.
He walked over step by step, pushed Daniel aside, and silently wheeled Emma's hospital bed into the room.
Emma closed her eyes directly, unwilling to look at him anymore.
Daniel was about to enter.
Marcus waved his hand, and the bodyguards who had been waiting outside rushed out, blocking the hospital room door.
The bodyguards on both sides made a gesture of "please leave."
"Marcus! This is imprisonment!"
Daniel was furious outside, gritting his teeth.
He wanted to rush in, wanted to break ties with Marcus completely.
But he had too many concerns. He was no match for Marcus. Even if he used all his family's power, he probably couldn't cause Marcus much damage.
Marcus didn't even lift his eyelids, his voice carrying absolute authority.
"The patient needs quiet. Get lost!"
"Let me in!" Daniel made his decision—even if it cost him everything, he would protect Emma.
He had no choice before, but now he couldn't just stand by and watch her fall back into that devil Marcus's hands!
Emma forced out a reassuring smile and shook her head at the door.
"Daniel, you should go. I'm fine. Don't worry, he won't do anything to me."
"But..." Daniel's face was full of worry, afraid that Marcus, that lunatic, would do something again.
Emma shook her head again. "Help me keep this quiet. Don't tell them."
"Okay." Daniel had no choice.
He could only use strategy, not force. Besides, Emma's body needed rest, so he had to leave.
A peeled apple appeared before Emma's eyes.
She followed the apple with her gaze and met Marcus's dark eyes.
She couldn't read the emotion in his eyes. She reached out and knocked the apple away.
"Get out, Marcus! Don't appear in front of me!"
The apple left his hand and hit the floor, getting covered in dust.
Marcus's expression darkened, but he didn't get angry. He turned around and picked up another apple to peel.
Emma closed her eyes. Knowing she couldn't drive him away, she simply turned over, unwilling to acknowledge him.
This time Marcus cut the apple into small pieces and brought one to Emma's lips on a toothpick.
"Eat something, Emma."
"I feel sick just looking at you. I can't eat anything you give me. Can you just leave?"
Emma's eyes were full of disgust and resentment toward him. Because of him, she almost lost her child.
What's more, the way he went crazy earlier was truly terrifying.
If there was a next time, or if Daniel had arrived late just now.
She didn't dare think what the consequences would be!
She had clearly felt Marcus's hand touching her body just now, even wanting to assault her right there.
Marcus lowered his eyes, pushing the apple in his hand closer to Emma's face, speaking slowly and deliberately,
"I'll leave after you eat. Emma, don't test my limits. One child doesn't matter much to me."
Emma's body stiffened.
She had no choice but to open her mouth and eat the apple, deliberately chewing it loudly.
The corners of Marcus's lips curved up slightly.
Emma thought she was seeing things. How could someone like Marcus smile?
Or was he happy to see her like this?
What a lunatic! A psycho!
From the corner of her eye, Emma noticed his bloody, mangled hand and the joints dripping blood. She suddenly frowned.
"Marcus, your hand?"
Marcus's eyes lit up, his voice tempting. "Are you worried about me, Emma?"
Emma laughed coldly. "I'm asking when you'll die! Everyone would be happy if you died!"
Marcus's smile grew wider. He picked up a fruit knife from the side.
The knife tip pointed at his own heart, and his other hand grabbed Emma's hand, slowly pushing it inward.
The knife tip pierced through his clothes.
Emma's face turned terrified, and she screamed!
"What are you doing!"
"Don't you want me dead, Emma? Don't be afraid. Just keep pushing, and I'll die right in front of you."
Marcus's eyes showed seriousness, as if he truly wanted to die.
Emma's heart trembled. She opened her mouth, gritting her teeth as she resisted Marcus's force.
"If you want to die, go die yourself! Don't try to make me a murderer! Get away!"
"You won't be. No one here can hold you responsible, Emma. If you want my life, take it."
Marcus gently brushed the stray hair from her face, his tone gentler than Emma had ever experienced.
"Don't be afraid. Even if I die, they'll protect you. I've already written my will—all my assets are yours too."
Emma's hand trembled violently. She could feel that Marcus really wanted to kill himself using her hand!
She felt Marcus gripping her hand and pushing it inward.
The next second, the knife tip pierced his skin.
Marcus let out a muffled groan, his face instantly pale.
Emma jerked her hand back, her heart racing!
The knife fell to the floor.
"You're insane! Marcus, if you're sick, go to psychiatry! Don't drag me into this!"
But Marcus laughed lowly. He really looked like a madman now, his stern face taking on a sinister edge.
"Emma, I really am insane. For the past six months you've been gone, I've regretted it every single moment. I realized I fell in love with you, but I was arrogant, thinking that accident was your scheme. It was all a misunderstanding! You're right, I am ridiculous!"
This was the first time Emma had seen Marcus in such a crazed state.
In her memory.
Marcus had always been powerful, calm, cold, even cruel.
But never like now—a madman, even somewhat pitiful.
"I thought I could never love anyone, Emma, but I fell in love with you."
Marcus laughed maniacally. In his twisted family where profit was everything.
He had never experienced what love was, and he realized it too late.
The word "love" wrapped around him like vines.
Emma watched his hysteria and was about to speak.
Suddenly there was commotion at the door.
"Are you in there, Marcus! The results are out! It's our child!"
Marcus quickly walked out.
Evelyn excitedly tried to rush over, but Marcus dodged directly, and she missed.
Evelyn wasn't upset. Instead, her face was glowing with excitement and joy as she pointed at the test report.
"Marcus, look, this is our child. Let's get married and give the child a complete family."
Marcus grabbed the report and looked at the conclusion.
He held the paper and laughed coldly. "Is this real?"
Evelyn was immersed in happiness and didn't notice Marcus's expression at all.
She smiled happily at Marcus. "Of course, it's our child, Marcus. Can you relax now? The child is yours."
