Chapter 52 Your Biological Child

Chapter 52 Your Biological Child

After Marcus left, Emma watched the direction he went, a tear from the corner of her eye disappearing into her hair.

The doctor came in quickly to check on her.

"Ms. Patterson, where do you feel uncomfortable?"

"Does hurting all over count?" Emma's voice carried a hint of tears.

The anesthesia had worn off long ago, and the pain in her body was becoming more and more obvious.

After taking notes, the doctor said, "Ms. Patterson, you're incredibly lucky. The wounds will take some time to heal. Your husband stayed by your side for two whole days and nights without sleep. When they took you into the operating room, he even knelt at the door."

Emma's heart trembled. She stiffly changed the subject, "What about my friends?"

"They came by. Your husband forced them out earlier and wouldn't let anyone near you."

"I see." A strange feeling rose in Emma's heart.

She was finding Marcus harder and harder to figure out.

Emma was lost in thought when suddenly Mary's crying came from outside the door, all the way to her bedside.

Mary wanted to hug Emma, but Emma was covered in wounds big and small with nowhere to hold, making Mary cry even louder.

"Emma, you scared me to death! Who was that piece of trash! I'm going to kill them!"

Alan, barely recovered himself, rushed over when he heard about Emma's car accident.

His eyes were red, full of guilt. "Emma, I failed to protect you."

Daniel felt even more guilty. "If I had insisted on taking you home, this wouldn't have happened. Emma, I'm sorry."

Seeing them all like this, Emma struggled to sit up but couldn't, so she could only lie there helplessly trying to comfort them.

"Stop crying, I'm fine, aren't I?"

This had no effect at all. Mary cried even harder.

Emma thought for a moment, then let out a wail. "It didn't hurt before, but hearing you cry, my wounds feel like they're opening up again."

Mary's eyes widened, immediately scared into stopping, though she still couldn't stop sobbing.

Emma spent a long time calming them down before bringing up, "Have you found out who did this?"

Alan and Daniel exchanged glances. Mary closed the door, and the three of them came mysteriously close to Emma's side.

Daniel began analyzing, "We only have suspects so far. This definitely has something to do with Evelyn. We think someone behind the Thomas family made the move."

"But we haven't confirmed who actually did it yet." Alan sighed.

Mary was even more upset. "That jerk Marcus! He was even guarding against the three of us, wouldn't let us in to visit!"

Emma's face darkened as she made up her mind that whoever framed her would pay back a thousand times over!

The three of them stayed with Emma for a long while.

Seeing the dark circles under their eyes, Emma felt bad that they hadn't slept well, so she made up an excuse to send them home.

Marcus had left people guarding her, so nothing could happen.

As soon as they left, footsteps sounded outside the door.

Evelyn, in high heels, kicked open Emma's hospital room door.

She admired Emma's miserable state, covering her mouth and laughing. "Emma, you're so lucky to be alive!"

"Are you disappointed?" Emma lifted her eyelids to look at her, murderous intent flowing in her eyes.

"What a shame that the bastard in your belly is fine too. Emma, you must have too many enemies."

Evelyn's eyes couldn't hide her smugness, every movement and every look showing off her victory.

But Emma just yawned, not even bothering to give Evelyn a glance.

"Are you done, Evelyn?"

Emma's tone was so calm it had almost no emotion. "If you're done, could you please leave? I'm a bit tired."

"You! Emma."

Evelyn suddenly raised her voice. She stood by Emma's bed, grabbed her throat with one hand, threatening, "Emma, how dare you ignore me! Aren't you afraid of dying?"

Emma was like a rag doll to be handled, not even blinking, instead raising her eyebrows provocatively. "Evelyn, go ahead and strangle me if you dare."

Evelyn's face flushed red with anger, unable to vent her fury!

"Fine! You can keep your cool, Emma. Let's see how long you can keep smiling!"

In the end, she only left with harsh words, looking even more pathetic.

Meanwhile, in the car.

Marcus leaned back in his seat, the pressure around him so low it seemed to freeze into ice.

Tyler in front didn't even dare breathe heavily. "Mr. Donovan, if you care about Ms. Patterson, you can go upstairs to her room."

"No need. She probably doesn't want to see me. Any leads on what I asked you to investigate?" Marcus felt every inch of his skin radiating murderous intent.

Who dared to hurt Emma? They must be tired of living!

"Mr. Donovan, from the preliminary information, the Morgan family and the Montague family provided some help in this operation. The mastermind is someone from the Thomas family."

"Is that so? Get ready. It's time for the Morgan family and the Montague family to go bankrupt."

Marcus's shoulders and back were ramrod straight. This time he had miscalculated, nearly costing Emma her life.

Tyler responded and quickly got out of the car to handle it.

Marcus closed his eyes, feeling the dull pain in his chest.

Even now, he didn't dare recall the moment he learned about Emma's car accident.

At that time, he wanted nothing more than mutual destruction, making everyone involved in the accident pay!

At the same time, Marcus regretted it. He shouldn't have let Emma drive alone.

Just then, the doctor's examination report came out.

Marcus opened it. The first line stated that the child in Emma's belly was his.

The moment he saw the test report, overwhelming joy hit his blank mind.

Then irritation and panic wrapped around his body, making it hard to breathe.

Marcus couldn't help but think of what he had done before, covering his face with both hands, a painful groan escaping from between his lips and teeth.

What had he been doing?

Emma's child was his, yet he had doubted the child's origin multiple times.

And Emma, alone in a foreign country, six months pregnant—how much suffering had she endured?

The emotion Marcus had suppressed for so long finally exploded at this moment.

Marcus pushed open the car door and strode toward the hospital room. He had to find Emma. He had been a jerk before, but from now on, he would do everything to make it up to Emma.

This time, he would never let go!
