Chapter 44 She Is Mine
Chapter 44 She Is Mine
"Emma, won't you even give me a chance to explain?"
Marcus blocked Emma's path.
"Mr. Donovan, we already cleared things up just now. Saving someone was your choice and has nothing to do with me."
Daniel stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Emma. "Marcus, your person is already out."
Evelyn dramatically threw herself at Marcus, tears in her eyes. "Marcus, I knew you'd come save me. My stomach hurts a bit."
Emma watched coldly and spoke mockingly, "Evelyn, you weren't like this just now. Why are you so weak all of a sudden?"
"Emma!" Evelyn swayed, clearly quite upset.
"What's wrong? Oh right, even if you're out on bail, remember you still need to pay compensation."
Emma pulled out a string of compensation bills from her bag and tossed them in front of her. "Evelyn, you got lucky this time, but next time, I won't let you off."
"Marcus, my stomach!" Evelyn's face flushed red with anger. She screamed and looked down to see a stream of sticky crimson liquid sliding down her legs.
"Blood, so much blood. Marcus, our baby!" Evelyn truly panicked. This baby was her guarantee of staying in the Donovan family!
Emma froze for a moment too, but the flash of concern in her eyes quickly turned to disgust.
"Emma, let's go."
Daniel reached out to block her view, pulling her around to leave.
"Wait!" Marcus, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up. "Emma, don't leave yet. I have something to say to you."
Emma didn't stop, continuing to walk as if she hadn't heard him.
Marcus tried to reach out and grab her, but his hand was caught by Evelyn. Her terrified gaze crashed into Marcus's eyes. "Marcus, save me, quick, save our baby."
Marcus eventually softened, picked up Evelyn, got in the car, and quickly drove away.
Emma sat in another car watching the whole thing, slowly speaking, "Daniel, do you think I'm being too heartless?"
Daniel reached out and patted her head. "Why would you think that? Emma, only kind people feel guilty about their conscience. Besides, Marcus is the one who went too far in this matter."
Daniel had looked into what happened in the past recently.
Marcus had shown Emma absolutely no mercy.
"Someone as good as you deserves the best person in the world, not a bastard like Marcus who can't tell right from wrong."
Emma laughed, her eyes crinkling. "You're right. Evelyn brought this on herself."
Emma played with the USB drive in her hand. "I'm just wondering when to give her this gift."
"Up to you. Just make sure to let me know so I can watch the show too."
"Of course!" Emma responded with a smile.
Compared to the lighthearted mood here, the atmosphere on Marcus's side was heavy.
Evelyn curled up in the back seat of the car, still moaning in pain.
Marcus watched this scene through the rearview mirror and deliberately called Tyler.
"Hold off on renewing the contract with the Thomas Group for now."
As soon as those words fell, Evelyn in the back seat struggled to open her eyes. Her voice was weak but she forced herself to sit up. "Marcus, what did you say? Why stop the cooperation with the Thomas Group?"
A flash of mockery quickly passed through Marcus's eyes, but his voice remained calm as always. "Need to reassess."
"Is it because of Emma? Marcus, are you taking revenge for Emma? But Emma almost killed our baby!"
Marcus remained unmoved, continuing to drive as if he hadn't heard anything.
Evelyn clenched her hands tightly, her nails digging deep into her palms. She had no choice but to confess.
"Marcus, I admit that I was behind the vandalism at Emma's studio before. But I only did it because I love you too much! I was afraid Emma would take you away from me."
"What else?" Marcus's face showed no emotion, only his hands gripping the steering wheel had lost some color.
This was Evelyn's last chance. If she told him the whole truth, maybe he would still consider sparing her life.
Emma completely panicked, her eyes darting around, stammering and not daring to speak.
"Nothing else, Marcus. That's the only thing."
"Really?" Marcus's tone dropped, carrying a cold edge, as if he had already seen through her disguise.
"Really! Marcus, don't you trust me? I know we've been apart for three years, but Marcus, I love you."
Evelyn's eyes reddened.
Marcus made a light sound of acknowledgment. The car stopped at the hospital entrance. "The doctor is already waiting inside. You can get out now."
Evelyn had lost her composure by now. She suspected Marcus knew something and tried to act as normal as possible. "Don't blame Emma. She's still young, maybe she's just jealous that you and I are together and said some harsh things."
Before she could finish, Marcus opened the car door. "The doctor is ready."
Marcus's gaze was hidden in the darkness, making it hard to read. Evelyn felt inexplicably anxious and quickly nodded. "Okay."
Evelyn was sent into the examination room. Marcus stood outside with his back against the wall.
A doctor came out early and lowered his voice to speak in Marcus's ear. "Ms. Thomas is physically fine. Today's bleeding was caused by alcohol irritation and emotional distress."
"Alcohol?" Marcus let out a light scoff, stood up, and turned to leave. "Let her rest well. Without my orders, she's not allowed to leave this hospital. Also, since she's pregnant and showing signs of threatened miscarriage, make her lie down properly and not move around."
The doctor wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. "Yes, I'll assign a dedicated doctor to watch Ms. Thomas." The doctor immediately pledged his loyalty. After all, the entire hospital was built with Marcus's investment. If they didn't obey, they could lose their jobs tomorrow.
Marcus turned away indifferently, glancing at the examination room from the corner of his eye. A mocking smile curved his lips, and then he quickly left.
Marcus returned to Dawn Blossom Estate again.
Colt had been waiting at the door early. Seeing Marcus return, he immediately came forward.
"Mr. Donovan, do you need me to notify Mrs. Donovan?"
Marcus didn't stop walking, his voice distant and detached. "No need."
