Chapter 81 CHAPTER EIGHTY ONE
ROMAN’S POV
“That’s all that really happened,” I say, clearing my throat, before glancing at both my dad and Alpha Rega, wondering if they believed my lies.
It wasn’t even a lie per say, just a twisted version of the truth.
“You know it’s taking a whole lot of effort to appease Alpha Kyle,” my dad spoke up. “The man seems to believe you are not telling the truth, especially since the place you said all these took place has no evidence of anything.”
“But you saw the video.” I say sharply. “And besides, a whole day is enough for someone like Brandon to clean up his mess.”
“Are you sure no other person you can identify was involved?” Alpha Regan Cold voice rang out, his stare boring into my soul.
“No sir,” I say firmly, holding his stare.
He exchanged a look I couldn’t quite decipher or could but choose to ignore with my dad, before sighing out.
“Welcome back,” Alpha Regan told me. “I hope this time around you focus on your training, and duties to this pack.”
“No problem sir,” I say quietly.
He nodded his head, dismissing me.
I wanted to ask how Richie was doing, I felt like a coward, getting him into that situation and then abandoning him.
Still I held back, deciding to ask my dad about him when we were alone.
The pack trainer Mr Kinsley, was already positioned with Stefan when I got there.
About from the training we got at school, me and Stefan still trained separately since we were going to be leading the pack one day.
Quickly, I dropped my bag, taking my clothes off, before practicing with the makeshift obstacles already arranged.
Occasionally I would pause, watching how Stefan and Mr Kinsley fought.
“Alright you are up next Roman.” Mr Kinsley, our personal trainer, called out, flexing his arms.
I nodded my head, sharing a look with Stefan before taking my position.
Before I could even properly position myself, Mr Kinsley attacked.
Honestly I was surprised, but I dodged at the last minute.
“See..,” he called out, turning towards Stefan. “Your attacker would not wait for you to prepare yourself, so always be alert.”
I rushed towards him as he spoke, hoping to land a punch now that he was distracted.
But Mr Kinsley wouldn’t be our trainer if he couldn’t see my attack coming.
He dodged my blow easily, landing a solid kick towards my right leg.
I faltered, catching myself in time before I could plummet to the sandy surface.
“Come on Roman, show me what you’ve got.”
Mr Kinsley yelled, shaking his head disappointingly. “Two years in the prestigious academy and nothing to show for it?” he joked.”
I breathe out, gritting my teeth in anger.
“Stop talking, come at me old man.” I yelled back, refusing to allow myself to be baited.
Mr Kinsley smirked, before rushing at me, no mercy this time as he threw punches after punches my way.
Some I managed to dodge, some well…., I yelped out as another strong punch landed on my jaw, staggering back from the force.
This wasn’t working, I haven’t managed to land even one punch, I needed to change my mood of attack.
I rushed towards him, allowing him to believe I wanted to swing at him with my right hand, and just when he was starting to dodge, I changed up, using my left to land a nasty punch at his right stomach.
He didn’t expect it. Without waiting for him to catch his breath, I swing out my right leg, tripping him down.
It was nasty, and I had learnt it from Brandon of all people, but when it came to defending yourself, all bets were off.
As quickly as he was down, Mr Kinsley flipped back up, almost rushing at me in anger, but the loud voice of my dad stopped him.
“That’s enough,” my dad yelled out, signaling the end of our training. I blinked in surprise as I took in how dark it was.
Stefan wasn’t even around anymore, probably had sneaked out.
“It’s late,” my dad says. “You guys can continue tomorrow. Roman pack your stuff let’s go.”
“Well, maybe you learnt something in that academy afterall.” Mr Kinsley told me, patting my back, before excusing himself.
I smiled, proud of myself, taking my bag and shirt, before following my dad outside.
I entered my dad’s car, still panting a bit from all that fighting.
My dad didn’t say anything for a while, neither did I. We just drove home silently.
“You did good today,” my dad said, breaking the silence. “I was watching, and with time, you really might just be ready to lead this pack alongside Stefan.”
I sighed out loudly, “thanks dad,” I muttered. “I have been meaning to ask, how is Richie?”
“He is getting better considering…,” my dad answered, not completing his sentence but somehow hoping I understood, which I did.
“That’s good,” I mumbled out.
“Hey.., it’s not your fault, and your friend is going to get better ok?” My dad says, trying to comfort me.
I nodded my head, staring out the car window.
“How was school?” my dad asked me.
“Just there,” I mutter dryly. “Same as it always was.”
My dad simply nodded his head, tapping his hands on his steering wheel as we descended into an awkward silence.
I love my dad, I mean he wasn’t that bad, but man…, sometimes it gets so awkward, especially after we make small talk like this.
By the time we got home, my mum, bless her soul, had already prepared food.
I rushed into the kitchen, grabbing the leftovers already set out for me, before digging in.
All that fighting had left me very hungry, and I know I couldn’t really feel it now, but tomorrow I would be sore as hell.
My mum was probably in her room, but my sis was currently walking towards me, a disgusted expression on her face,
“Slow down will you,” she says, rolling her eyes. “The food isn’t going anywhere.”
I didn’t say anything, just shoveled more food down my throat.
“How was training?” she asked, leaning over the kitchen counter.
I just shrugged my shoulders in response.
She sighed deeply, staring at me intensely.
“What?” I asked her, frowning at the look she was giving me.
“Emily..,” Bella drawled out. “You know you can’t keep ignoring her right? I mean, everyone could see how awkward it was between the both of you today.”
“I am not ignoring her,” I say, which was partly true. “I just don’t have anything to say to her.”
“Roman….,”
“Look, Bell.” I say, cutting her off. “I appreciate whatever it is you are trying to do here, but please can you let it go?”
“I don’t want to hear about Emily, I am done with that ok?”
Bella didn’t say anything, just stared at me.
I dropped the plate into the sink, running up to my room, away from that conversation, and that prying eyes that could tell that everything I just said, was a big fat lie.
