Chapter 156 Chapter 156. The Choice
Chapter 156 Chapter 156. The Choice
Rosie had already made herself this clear. If Zoria still refused to agree, then in Rosie’s eyes, she truly would be someone who did not know what was good for her.
As expected, Zoria slowly raised her head. She drew in a deep breath and tried to hide the tears that were about to spill from her eyes.
“Mrs. Rosie, you’re right. Someone like me probably isn’t worthy of staying by Lysander’s side.”
Zoria paused for a moment, then looked straight at her.
“But have you ever thought about whether Lysander truly needs me or not? Do you know what he really wants?”
Rosie’s gaze turned even colder, and a dark look appeared in her eyes.
“He is my son. Of course I know what he needs. It is not the place of an outsider like you to stand here and tell me about my own son.”
At that exact moment, the door to the hospital room was pushed open. Lysander walked in, his expression terribly dark.
“Mother, you can leave now.”
Rosie looked unwilling to accept it. She had not finished dealing with the matter, nor had she heard a clear answer from Zoria’s own mouth. How could she possibly leave just like that?
Zoria spoke up. “Mrs. Rosie, I’ll seriously think about everything you just said.”
The expression on Rosie’s face immediately eased a little.
“Then I hope you recover soon. I’ll be leaving first.”
Rosie cast Lysander a cold glance, then turned around and left the room. Even after walking out, she still felt uncomfortable inside.
There was someone in that room who might have been infected with blood poison. For a pure-blooded werewolf like her, staying there for too long was no different from inviting unnecessary trouble upon herself.
After Rosie left, Lysander walked toward Zoria one step at a time. He looked at her with a serious expression and asked, “What did you agree to?”
Zoria shook her head. “I didn’t agree to anything.”
Lysander still did not believe her. He sat down on the edge of the bed, pulled Zoria into his arms, and held her tightly against his chest.
“Promise me. Don’t leave me, all right?”
Zoria felt as though she had just swallowed a piece of broken glass. That shard of glass was caught in her throat, cutting her vocal cords apart. Otherwise, why was she unable to say even a single word at that moment?
“My mother has driven many people out of my life. I never cared about any of them. But you’re not the same as those people.”
Lysander’s voice had turned hoarse. There was pain in it, but there was also fear.
“Zoria, I truly like you. You’re the only person I love. I don’t want you to leave me just because of something an outsider said to you.”
While he had been standing in the hallway, Lysander had not been able to hear the conversation inside the room. All he could do was wait in fear, his heart almost stopping because he was afraid that Zoria would agree to leave him.
Something suddenly shook deep inside Zoria’s heart.
She did not want to hurt Lysander. But if she continued to stay with him, then perhaps Rosie was right. In the end, the two of them would only hurt each other, and there would be no good ending waiting for either of them.
No matter what happened, Zoria had to be cruel this time. Once she had decided to leave, she could not allow herself to turn back.
She reached out and wrapped her arms around Lysander in return. Her voice was gentle, almost as if she were trying to comfort Lior.
“Don’t worry. She didn’t say anything to me, and I didn’t agree to anything she asked. We already made a promise, didn’t we? I won’t leave you.”
That was right. They had already made a promise to each other. Two weeks later, when the final test results came back, if Zoria truly had been infected with blood poison, Lysander would stay beside her until she died. If she had not been infected, then he would become her mate.
Whether they lived or died, the two of them had to remain together.
There was only one thing Lysander had forgotten. A promise only meant something when both people kept their word. Once one of them broke it, everything they had done would still come to nothing in the end.
……
The news about Zephyr and Faye’s mating ceremony at Whisper Bay soon reached Lysander.
As soon as the information was leaked, all the major news sites rushed to publish their own articles. None of them was willing to miss out on such an attention-grabbing story.
Mike quickly reported all the details he had learned to Lysander.
For the past several days, Lysander had stayed by Zoria’s side to take care of her, so he had not paid much attention to what was happening with Zephyr.
At that moment, he only asked in passing, “Where is Michael?”
“He has been locked inside the family’s detention area.”
The weather was already cold at this time of year. The family’s detention area was also located beneath the basement, where no natural light reached it at any time of the year. It truly was a suitable place to imprison those who had committed serious crimes.
Even so, Lysander still felt that it was not enough.
“Put him in solitary confinement.”
He spoke in a cold, indifferent voice. “Leave him there and let him think carefully about what he has done.”
“Yes,” Mike replied.
Michael had already been dealt with, but of course, Faye could not be allowed to escape either. Had she not always wanted, with all her heart, to become Zephyr’s Luna?
Then Lysander would make the wonderful little affair between Faye and Michael public right in the middle of the mating ceremony. He wanted to see, once everything was exposed in front of every guest, whether Faye would still have the face to stand beside Zephyr.
The day finally came for Zoria to receive the result of her blood poison test. Lysander could barely keep himself calm.
“Zoria, don’t be afraid. You’re going to be all right. Nothing is going to happen to you.”
