Chapter 155 Chapter 155. The Ultimatum
Zoria’s pupils shrank slightly, and the look on her face became hard to read.
“What do you mean by women like me?”
“Zoria, Kieran’s daughter. A few years ago, you became Zephyr’s mate, and afterward, the scandal about you spread everywhere. Three years later, Kieran was sent to prison. The news reports at the time said that, because of Zephyr, you personally sent your own father to prison.”
The articles from those years had ruined Zoria’s name little by little. They had painted her as greedy and vain, as a shameless woman who would use any means she could think of to keep hold of a man. Those words were enough to make anyone feel sick just from hearing them.
“Mrs. Rosie, you were born into a family with status. I’m sure you understand very well that many of the articles posted online are written only to draw the public’s attention. How much of what they say is true and how much is false, you should know that better than most people.”
Rosie answered coldly, “Even if everything written in those articles was false, you still wouldn’t be worthy of my son.”
What she said was not entirely wrong. Zoria truly felt that she was not worthy of Lysander.
Even if she did not think about the articles from those years, the things that had happened to her were already enough to make her feel that she had become far too broken.
She had once been pregnant and lost her child. Zephyr had tortured her until her whole body was covered in wounds, and in the end, he had thrown her away. Her body had already grown weak after so many years of pain and injury. On top of that, because she was half human and half werewolf, her natural ability to recover could never compare to that of a pure-blooded werewolf.
And now, there was a chance that she had also been infected with blood poison.
“I don’t want to waste time talking in circles with you.”
Rosie looked straight at Zoria.
“The doctor said that they found abnormal signs related to blood poison in the blood sample taken from your body. We still have to wait for more tests before the final result can be confirmed, but there’s a very high chance that you’ve already been infected.”
“I don’t look down on people infected with blood poison. Now that something like this has happened, I also feel sorry for you. As long as you leave Lysander, I’ll give you a sum of money. It will be enough for you to live on until the final day of your life.”
Rosie’s voice was calm, but every word that came from her mouth was sharp, like a heavy blade cutting deep into Zoria’s heart.
The baby inside her seemed to sense how low her spirits had fallen and moved gently.
The surgical wound on Zoria’s stomach had still not fully healed. The moment the baby moved, the wound was pulled tight, and the pain made her draw her brows together. Without thinking, she raised a hand and held her stomach.
Of course, that movement did not escape Rosie’s notice. Her eyes immediately shifted to Zoria’s belly and stayed there.
The lower part of Zoria’s stomach rose slightly beneath the blanket, forming a clearly rounded shape. Rosie had not paid attention to it earlier. She had thought the blanket was merely pushed up underneath. Now that she looked at it more carefully, however, it was obvious that things were not that simple.
Rosie reached out and pulled the blanket covering Zoria’s body away. The moment she saw Zoria’s round belly, the look in her eyes suddenly froze.
As a woman herself, Rosie naturally understood what the shape of that belly meant. Even then, she still found it difficult to believe that Zoria was truly pregnant.
“You’re pregnant?”
The blanket had been pulled away so suddenly that Zoria did not have time to react. It was only when she heard Rosie’s question that she hurriedly covered her stomach with both hands. Her expression became strained, and then she gave a small nod.
Apart from the doctors and the people who had personally taken care of her, Zoria had never let any outsider see her pregnant body.
It was very difficult for someone who was half human and half werewolf to become pregnant. The fact that Zoria had managed to conceive so easily more than once was clearly unusual. She did not want other people to stare at her or look too deeply into the matter.
Judging from the size of her belly, it seemed at first glance that she was already about five or six months pregnant.
Based on the timing, Zoria must have become pregnant before she left Zephyr. Rosie did not need anyone to tell her who the father of the child inside Zoria was. She could guess the answer for herself.
Rosie suddenly felt sick to her stomach. She stared at Zoria’s belly, and the disgust in her eyes could not have been clearer. She threw down the blanket she was holding as if she had just touched something filthy.
“Zoria, you are completely unworthy of being with my son. Even without mentioning how those ugly rumors about you made you lose face among the upper class, the fact that you’re pregnant with another man’s child is already disgusting enough.”
Zoria’s face grew paler and paler. Her tightly pressed lips had lost every trace of color, and her thin, weak body would not stop trembling.
In truth, she had heard words like these so many times that she was already sick of them. Zephyr had said the same things to her more times than she could count.
But now, when those words came from Rosie’s mouth, she still felt a sharp pain pierce through both ears before stabbing straight into her heart.
“There is absolutely no chance of you being with Lysander. I will never agree to it, and the Valerius family will accept it even less.”
Rosie looked at her with cold eyes.
“He is a pure-blooded werewolf, while you are only a hybrid. You know very well how great the difference between the two of you is.”
Zoria curled her fingers tightly.
“Even though the three races can now live together openly in this society, families like Valerius still have their own rules. Do you really think they would easily accept someone who is half human and half werewolf as the mate of the future Alpha? If you truly love him, then I suppose you wouldn’t want him to be unable to hold his head up in the future because of you. You wouldn’t want him to be looked down on by everyone and lose all his dignity the way you did, would you? You should think carefully about what I just said. If you take the money, you will also be able to take care of the child in your belly. At the very least, your child won’t have to suffer later because you don’t have enough money to pay for treatment.”
