Chapter 154 Chapter 154. Zephyr’s Mother Arrives
Blood poison was a disease that every pureblood werewolf had heard about. Once the blood poison entered and infected the wolf core, the body’s natural ability to heal itself would begin to weaken very quickly. The disease could be passed through blood and other bodily fluids, and it was especially dangerous when two people had been in close, intimate contact for a long period of time.
What made it even more frightening was that, during the early stage, a person infected with blood poison usually showed no clear signs at all. The symptoms would only begin to appear little by little after the wolf core had already started to weaken.
Rosie had been both worried and furious. She had hurriedly asked for Zoria’s hospital room number, then rushed straight there without wasting another moment.
She had never expected that the moment she opened the door, she would see Lysander and Zoria sleeping together in the same bed.
At that moment, all Rosie wanted to do was rush over and slap some sense into Lysander, so he would understand just how dangerous the thing he was doing really was.
Lysander raised his chin slightly. The look in his eyes turned cold and dark.
“Then you’d better stay a little farther away from me.”
He looked Rosie directly in the eyes.
“Because I may already be infected too.”
Rosie froze where she stood.
Lysander had no intention of stepping back or changing what he had said.
“She is the woman I love.”
His voice was very low, but every word came out clear.
“Everything we should have done, and everything we shouldn’t have done, we’ve already done it all.”
Those words were like pouring oil straight onto a burning fire.
Rosie clenched her teeth so hard that her whole body shook with anger.
“You really are a bastard! You’re completely useless! You don’t even know how to value your own life!”
However, after remembering what Lysander had just told her, Rosie no longer dared to raise her hand and hit him again.
She shoved Lysander aside with all her strength and walked straight toward the hospital bed.
She had to take a good look and see exactly who this woman was. She wanted to know what Zoria had done to bewitch her son and make an Alpha like Lysander stay beside her, even when it meant throwing aside his reputation, his family, and ignoring the danger that he might become infected with blood poison.
Zoria had always been a light sleeper. The moment Lysander let go of her, she woke up. She heard the conversation taking place behind her and felt her body slowly turning cold, little by little.
The window in the hospital room was clearly shut, but Zoria felt as though a cold wind had just blown inside, making the whole room feel dark, damp, and bitterly cold.
When she heard the footsteps behind her coming closer and closer, Zoria turned over and sat up. The blanket covering her slipped down to her waist. Underneath it, she was wearing only a thin hospital gown. Zoria’s face was pale, and her lashes lowered slightly, hiding the feelings in her eyes.
The moment Rosie saw Zoria, she immediately frowned. She had thought that a woman capable of seducing her son would at least be as beautiful as the one from before. But the woman in front of her was not even one-tenth as beautiful as that person had been.
Zoria’s facial features looked pale and faded. She seemed weak and low in spirits, and her body was thin and frail. Even the smallest hospital gown still hung loosely around her body. Her fair, slender hand rested on the blanket, and beneath her thin skin, faint blue and purple veins could be seen.
Rosie’s eyes were filled with scrutiny as she looked Zoria up and down. The longer she stared at her, the more complicated her expression became.
She believed Zoria must have heard every word of the conversation between her and Lysander just now. But Zoria’s reaction was far too calm. It was as if Zoria did not care at all why Rosie had come there or what she intended to do.
“You’re Zoria, aren’t you? There are a few things I want to say to you. They concern my son, Lysander.”
At that moment, Lysander only had eyes for Zoria. As soon as he saw that she was awake, he immediately walked over without thinking and used his body to shield her behind him.
“Mom, get out.”
Lysander’s expression became even colder.
“What else is there for you to say? Even if you say it, no one here is going to listen.”
Rosie raised the end of one eyebrow.
“This time, I’m the one who came. The next time, if your father comes here himself, he won’t let her off this easily. Even if you’ve already become an Alpha, the right to pass judgment is still in his hands. You’d better think about that carefully.”
Zoria saw Lysander’s back stiffen slightly.
She knew that, deep down, he was still somewhat wary of his father.
Zoria gently tugged at Lysander’s sleeve. When he turned his head and looked at her with worry filling his eyes, the corners of her lips curved upward without her even thinking about it.
“You should go outside first.”
Lysander turned around fully. He frowned as he looked down into Zoria’s deep black eyes, then softened his voice and said:
“You don’t need to be afraid. I’ll always stay by your side. No one can ever separate the two of us.”
They were clearly only simple and ordinary words, but Zoria suddenly felt a sharp sting in her nose.
“I’m not afraid. Your mother only wants to say a few words to me.”
Zoria gently pushed his hand away.
“I’m fine.”
“All right. Then I’ll wait outside for you.”
Before he went out, Lysander looked back at Rosie several times, a clear warning in his eyes.
The door closed behind him with a very soft sound. The moment it did, the expression on Rosie’s face turned cold.
“Zoria, can you leave my son alone?”
Zoria took her eyes off the door and looked at the woman standing in front of her.
Rosie had a cold but refined face, and her expression remained fairly calm. Her tone was not as harsh as the meaning behind her words, but it still put a great deal of pressure on anyone who heard it.
“Do you think I’m the one who’s been clinging to your son?”
Rosie let out a cold laugh. Her eyes were full of contempt. She looked Zoria over without hiding it at all, as if she wanted to strip off her clothes, peel away every layer of flesh, and see right through to her bones.
“I’ve met far too many women like you. Lysander has caused me plenty of trouble over the past few years. There have been no fewer than fifty women who appeared by his side. You’re only one of them.”
