Chapter 18 Elizabeth and Colton
The birds woke Elizabeth up the following morning. She was still being held by Colton. Elizabeth could not help herself she felt butterflies at him lying in her bed next to her looked so perfect to her.

Colton slowly woke up as the sun beamed down on his eyes. He blinked his eyes slowly open, he saw Elizabeth sitting there staring down at him.

He asked her groggily “Are you watching me sleep?”

“Uh yea I was, sorry. Not creepily, I just woke up and looked over at you then could not look away.” Elizabeth told him.

“You are doing wonders for my self esteem.” Colton mused her.

Elizabeth quipped “You actually need help with that?”

Colton grinned “I never really thought about it before.” Colton looked up at and saw the time on the alarm clock, then said suddenly “Oh shoot I have to go.”

“Really?” Elizabeth inquired wishing he could stay.

“Yea I got to get in to work by nine; I only have yesterday’s clothes here. I have to go home to change.” Colton responded.

“Oh that sucks, maybe you can call in sick. You can stay in bed and I can tend to you.” Elizabeth offered.

Colton replied “That sounds great but I can’t I have a lot of work to do. How about dinner tonight?”

“Yea, that sounds great.” Elizabeth answered.

Colton could not help but be tickled by how much she liked him. “Alright I’ll pick you up at seven tonight.” he told her.

“OK.” Elizabeth got on top of him and kissed him.

He held her and stared at her naked body then muttered “Oh god.”

He lifted her up then put her down beside him, he then got up and found his clothes on the floor. Elizabeth got up and went over to him. She grabbed his ass and brought him closer to her. She started to kiss his chest.

Colton guided her back away from him “You are going to distract me, and make me late for work.”

“Then my plan is working?” Elizabeth chuckled.

Colton put on his boxers and his pants quickly. Elizabeth looked at him with a crooked eyebrow and said “Having clothes on is not part of my plan.”

“I know, I can tell. I just do not have time I really have to get to work.” Colton said.

“You have time for a quickie.” Elizabeth pleaded.

Colton pulled his shirt on and kissed Elizabeth then walked out of her room, he started toward the door, and called out as he was leaving “See you tonight.” Then he left.

Elizabeth stood still, frozen in her room where he had left her shocked that he would not stay to have sex with her. She broke out of the trance, and then got ready for the day.

Elizabeth spent her day shopping and hanging out with Davina. She surprised herself when she did not talk at all about Colton with her. She was just too happy to have her friend back and be able to do things like spend the day shopping with her. As well although she was happy about Colton she was a little embarrassed about her behaviour with him.

Elizabeth was having a great day with Davina, so she felt bad when she had thoughts of wishing the day would go by faster. She loved Davina but she was really excited to see Colton again.

Davina saw that Elizabeth was elsewhere she interrupted her thoughts “Hey are you OK?”

Elizabeth snapped out of it “What? Oh yea. I am sorry, just daydreaming I guess.”

“Oh yea about what?” Davina questioned her.

Elizabeth searched her mind for a believable lie “I was just thinking about whether or not I should buy a house. You know because I bought the flat thinking that I would not be here permanently but, now I cannot see myself anywhere else.”

Davina scoffed “Oh.”

“Sorry I did not know that that would make you mad.” Elizabeth retorted.

Davina’s face dropped as she realized that she was rude and that she offended Elizabeth “Oh my God, no, I am sorry. I was just like instantaneously jealous of you, or rental is so small, we are cramped and I just wanted to get a house as soon as possible.”

“OK. How about this I will not buy a house until you and Darren get yours.” Elizabeth replied.

Davina laughed and answered “No that is dumb, look for a house.”

“It is not dumb I have a beautiful flat that I can stay in a little longer.” As they were talking they walked past a Realtor’s office.

Elizabeth saw it and her eyes opened wide. She grasped Davina’s arm and excitedly led her in to the office. “Let’s go get you a realtor.”

They went into the office; they talked to a receptionist who told them there was a Realtor on site, and to take a seat. They waited for about twenty minutes, when the Realtor came out she was with a couple. They said their goodbyes, and the realtor walked them out. Once the couple was out of sight the realtor turned to them and invited them into her office.

They got into her office, and sat down in the chairs opposite of the realtor. As they sat down Elizabeth saw Keith behind the realtor, he smiled at her then said “Remember having sex over my desk. It looked just like this one.”

Elizabeth rolled her eyes, and looked down at the ground she did not want Davina or the Realtor to know she was seeing things. When she looked at the floor she saw that it was the same carpet she had in her room. That made her think of being in her room, last night with Colton and she smiled at the memory.

Davina tapped her shoulder and asked “Are you OK? you spaced out again.”

Elizabeth looked up at her and replied “Yea, sorry. I am good.” She turned and looked past the Realtor, there was nothing there but the wall, Keith was gone. Elizabeth hoped that he was gone for good.

Elizabeth fixed her gaze onto the Realtor who smiled at her, Elizabeth smiled back. The Realtor introduced herself “Hi my name is Elsie.”

“Hi I am Elizabeth. Sorry about that.” Elizabeth responded.

“Oh don’t worry about it. So how can I help you?” Elsie asked.

Davina intervened “Well my friend here forced me to come in here.”

“Because her and her fiancé are looking to buy a new home, They are in a tiny cramped rental right now, so they are desperate for a new house.” Elizabeth added.

“Oh alright. There is just a couple of things I need to know.” Elsie told Davina.

Davina asked “Oh, alright like what?”

“Don’t worry it is nothing scary. I just need to know what you are looking for, what your budget is, and if you are ready to sign contracts to make me your Realtor.” Elsie replied.

“Oh alright, well we are just looking for a starter home right now. I was thinking maybe three bedrooms, definitely two bathrooms, two stories, finished basement, and it has to have a large yard I love going outside.” Davina returned excitedly.

“A girl who knows what she wants.” Elsie commented.

“Yes she is.” Elizabeth said surprised at Davina’s reaction. “I am just going to leave you guys to it then.” Elizabeth said as she walked out of the office, Davina and Elsie dove right into contracts and house searching.

Elizabeth wandered into the mall, and looked around in some nearby stores. After a little while Davina finally left the Real Estate office. She found Elizabeth and tapped her on the shoulder, Elizabeth turned around to face her.

“Hey sorry that took so long. Are you ready to go?” Davina asked.

Elizabeth answered “Yea let’s go.”

“Do you want to go out for dinner with Darren and I?” asked Davina.

“Oh, no thank you.” Elizabeth answered.

“Are you sure?” Davina asked.

Elizabeth replied “Yea, I do not want to be a third wheel. Again.”

“Oh come on, you are not the third wheel. Come out with us.” Davina urged.

Elizabeth shook her head no, as she racked her brain for an excuse not to go out with Davina. She really wanted to keep her date with Colton secret. However she did not want to hurt Davina’s feelings. She finally just said “I actually have plans to go out with another friend.”

“Oh yea, with who. Carmela?” asked Davina.

Elizabeth perked up when Davina offered her a name to use, and then shrieked “Yes.”

Davina stepped back and looked surprised “Oh OK. Well you can both come.”

“Oh no, you do not want to have Darren surrounded by three women.” Elizabeth countered.

Davina was confused and it showed on her face, so Elizabeth quickly started walking toward the exit. Davina stood there confused for a couple of seconds. Davina let it go then followed Elizabeth out.

Davina was silent while Elizabeth drove her home. Elizabeth pulled into Davina’s driveway; she got out to help her take out her shopping bags from the trunk. As they were unloading her trunk Elizabeth asked “Are you mad at me?”

Davina took her bags from Elizabeth’s hands then looked directly at her with an angry look on her face. Elizabeth saw it and thought ‘Oh crap she is mad at me’ Then Davina cracked up, Elizabeth looked at her like she was crazy.

“Just screwing with you, no I am not mad at you. Confused trying to figure out what the hell happened back there before we left the mall. But not mad.” Davina explained.

“Oh I see.” Elizabeth said awkwardly.

“I know you are lying to me I just do not know why.” Davina uttered.

Elizabeth decided to come clean so she confessed “Yea I am lying to you. But just about going out with Carmela. Please do not ask for the truth I will tell you when I am ready I just am not right now.”

“OK.” Davina responded. “Call me later.”

“OK.” they hugged Davina went inside and Elizabeth went home.

At home Elizabeth put away her new garments, changed then applied her make-up. At seven on the dot her doorbell rang, she was so excited to see Colton she ran to the door to answer it. She pulled the door open and Colton was revealed to her.

Colton had cologne on, was wearing a black tieless suit, and had obviously used product in his hair. This made Elizabeth really happy because it showed her that he had put an effort into his appearance and his smell for her.

“Oh wow you look and smell amazing.” Elizabeth greeted him.

Colton stepped inside, and gave Elizabeth a kiss on her cheek “Thank you. Are you ready to go?”

Elizabeth felt like her whole cheek was warm from his lips even though they were there for only a second. She tried to contain herself.

She answered “Yea I just have to get my purse, and put on my shoes first.”

“Alright.” Colton replied as he waited at the door for Elizabeth to be ready. She got her purse and put her shoes on, and then they left.

Colton brought her to a very nice restaurant with the perfect lighting, and white linen everywhere. She looked around amused then asked “So you like this place?”

“Um, I have no idea I have never been here before. Why I cannot like a place like this?” Colton questioned her.

Elizabeth was worried that she had offended Colton, she quickly quipped “No you can I just never pictured you in a real fancy place like this.” Elizabeth realized that did not smooth things over and added abruptly “I am sorry that was rude, I just meant...”

Elizabeth trailed off as she was reading the expression on Colton’s face which seemed gloomy like she was insulting him.

“Never mind I am just going to shut up now.” Elizabeth conceded.

Colton shrugged his shoulders then asked “What? Did you think I was going to take you to a hoe down?”

“No. I just, I don’t know I guess I was expecting something more low key than this.” Elizabeth tried to justify herself.

“Oh because you think I am poor?” demanded Colton.

“No.” Elizabeth shot back rapidly.

A smile crept up on Colton’s face, and then he started to laugh. Elizabeth was staring at him as her heartbeat started to slow down and get back to its normal rate.

“You were joking? Oh my God I was so scared that I offended you my heart stopped beating.” Elizabeth told him. That just made Colton laugh harder.

“I am sorry; you just made it really easy. I actually do like nice restaurants though. We are here though because I wanted to bring you somewhere nice.” Colton commented.

Elizabeth was touched as she whispered shyly “Oh.”

“Feel bad now?” Colton asked her in jest.

Elizabeth smiled and responded “I have been feeling bad for a while.”

Colton took her hand in his and told her “Don’t.”

Just then the hostess called out ‘Jones party for two.’

“That’s us.” Colton called out to the hostess.

Colton held on to Elizabeth’s hand as they followed the hostess to their table. They sat down across from one another as their waiter came up and handed them their menus. They ordered drinks to start, the waiter left them to look at the menu.

Colton looked up at Elizabeth from behind his menu, Elizabeth looked back at him. Colton smiled at her; Elizabeth smiled back right, she felt as though her heart was melting. A scary thought came into her head as she realized that she could easily fall in love with this man.

A sudden knock on the table brought Elizabeth out of her trance; she jumped and almost fell out of her chair. She looked at who made the noise it was Davina

“Oh my God what are you doing?” Elizabeth asked.

“I’m sorry; I just knocked on the table like I would knock on a door.” Davina knocked on the table again to show her what she was talking about.

“Oh my God. That scared the crap out of me.” Elizabeth told her.

She looked over at Colton he seemed amused by the interruption. Elizabeth could also tell he was curious as to who was at their table

“Oh shoot sorry, Davina this is Colton, Colton this is Davina.” Elizabeth introduced them.

Darren came up behind Davina when Elizabeth saw him she said “Oh and this is her fiancé Darren. Davina is my best friend, who is here, now, for some reason.”

“I saw your car and thought I would come and see you.” Davina explained.

“Oh that’s nice.” Colton replied. He knew she was lying but he wanted to be nice.

“Yea it is and weird since Colton drove us here.” Elizabeth added staring at Davina.

“OK I followed you here.” Davina confessed.

“I am going to the bathroom.” Colton told Elizabeth.

Colton got up and went to the bathroom so that Elizabeth could talk to her friend. Darren followed his lead and went to the bathroom too.

“What are you doing?” Elizabeth asked as soon as the boys were gone.

Davina responded “I wanted to know the truth so I followed you here. Why didn’t you just tell me you had a date?”

“Because I pursued him, I did it rather aggressively and I am a little embarrassed by it.” explained Elizabeth.

“OK seriously? You are embarrassed to tell me the truth about being aggressive with a man? That is hilarious. Why can’t you just tell me the truth? I feel like since you moved out here you never tell me anything anymore. It makes me feel like we are growing apart, and I don’t want to.” Davina disclosed.

“Really? I am so sorry. OK here is the truth I met him in a club, did not see him again until last night when I called him lied to him to get him to come over to my place, he wanted to leave but at the door I forced a kiss on him. From there we ended up having sex, and now we are on a date.” Elizabeth confessed. “Oh yea, and I slept with a woman once.”

“Oh my God.” Davina let the escape shock from her mouth. Davina quickly defended her words “About the woman, not Colton. Not that there is anything wrong with that I just did not know.”

“Yea it was good, I actually really enjoyed it. I wasn’t in love with her or anything I just really enjoyed it.” Elizabeth confided in Davina.

“OK, wow good for you. And now you are dating a man.” Davina repeated.

“Yea well maybe. I don’t know it might just be a pity date because I slept with him, and he does not want to make me feel bad.” Elizabeth attested.

“Oh no that boy got all dressed up and everything this is a date. If he never wanted to see you again he just would not see you again. Which is why as soon as they get out of the bathroom Darren and I are going to leave so you guys can be alone? Thanks for the truth it really makes me feel a lot better, like we are bringing our strangely close relationship even closer.” Davina said.

Elizabeth laughed and added “and it’s just a little awkward now.”

“Well only if you are interested in me.” Davina joked.

“You are a gorgeous woman, and I love you but, you are my best friend. So no, sorry.” Elizabeth answered.

“Alright.” Davina laughed.

Darren and Colton came out of the bathroom; Colton sat back down and invited Davina and Darren to join them. Davina made up an excuse and she and Darren left.

Elizabeth saw the door close behind and she turned to Colton to say “I’m sorry about that.”

“It’s ok; she obviously cares about you a lot.” Colton offered.

“Or she is nosey.” Elizabeth returned.

“That too.” Colton said smirking. The waiter then came over with their drinks and he took their order then left again.

“So I was thinking that we started this with the physical stuff, and I know absolutely nothing about you.” Colton commented, and then added with a smile “Except that you like the physical.”

Elizabeth blushed “OK so what do you want to know?”

“Everything.” answered Colton.

Elizabeth told Colton her life story, about her parents, about school, her career as a lawyer, her fiancé but not everything, her move to the city, her career change, and all about her friendship with Davina.

“So what about you?” Elizabeth asked.

“Well my parents are alive, together and as far as I can tell happy.” answered Colton.

“That’s good.” Elizabeth confirmed.

“Yea, I never knew how good until now.” Colton stated.

Elizabeth asked “What else?”

Colton answered “Well I am a detective; I have lived here my whole life. I can’t imagine leaving.”

“I know that feeling, I thought I would only be here for a little while, but now I want to be here forever.” responded Elizabeth, then asked “Did you always want to be a cop?”

“Detective.” Colton clarified.

“Detective, right sorry. Did you always want to be a detective?” Elizabeth questioned him again.

Colton replied “No, not at all. I just like to solve puzzles so that is how I got into it.”

“So what did you want to do?” Elizabeth asked curiously.

“Pilot, I wanted to be a pilot.” Colton confessed.

“Oh cool.” Elizabeth responded.

“Yea it would have been.” answered Colton.

“So what happened? Why aren’t you a pilot?” Elizabeth questioned him.

Colton replied “Well, nothing really I just chose a different path when I grew up.”

“Oh so you just wanted something different when you grew up.” Elizabeth thought aloud.

“Yea, that sounds about right.” Colton confirmed.

Elizabeth stated “Well I am glad that you chose a different career path, cause otherwise you might be in the air and I may have never met you.”

“That is true.” Colton agreed.

They finished their dinner, paid the bill, then left. Colton drove Elizabeth around the city, he took her to all of his old schools, all of the places he lived, the place where he had his first job, and then to the precinct he currently worked in.

Then he took her home, he parked in the garage and walked her upstairs. At the door he kissed her goodnight. “Are you not coming in?” Elizabeth asked.

“I don’t know.” Colton answered.

“OK.” Elizabeth muttered.

“Do you want me to come in?” teased Colton.

“Of course I do, but I am starting to feel like I am begging for it here.” Elizabeth giggled.

Colton smiled at her sympathetically, and then kissed her again. He then lifted by her ass and she wrapped her legs around him. He moved them into the door using it to support them. He took the key from her hand and opened the door.

He walked them through the flat and into the living room. He put Elizabeth down on her feet to grab a black blanket that was nearby; he laid it out on the floor in front of the fireplace. She assumed Colton was in the shower, she was proven correct when a couple of minutes later he came out of the bathroom. To her disappointment he was fully dressed.

He saw her sitting up in the bed and said “Hey your awake, good morning.”

“Good morning. Did you bring me to the bed?” Elizabeth asked.

“Yea I did not want you to sleep on the floor all night, and I did not want to sleep on the floor all night.” answered Colton.

“Thank you, you are the sweetest man.” Elizabeth praised Colton.

Colton said “Thank you.” Elizabeth looked down like she was disappointed and sad.

“What’s wrong?” Colton asked.

Elizabeth looked up with her eyes welling “I was just thinking.”

“About what?” Colton asked confused.

Elizabeth answered “Just about how this could end, I don’t even know what we are doing. Or if it is real for you or just sex. I know it is stupid I am sorry.”

Colton walked over to Elizabeth and sat down beside her, he caressed her leg and consoled her “Well I can guarantee that this is not just sex I know that is how it started but that is not all I want. I have never been that kind of guy, I tried before couldn’t do it.”

“So then what are we doing?” asked Elizabeth.

Colton answered “We are dating.”

Elizabeth asked wearily and excitedly “So you are my boyfriend?”

“Yea, I guess so.” Colton replied.

“And I am your girlfriend.” Elizabeth stated.

“Yea.” Colton echoed.
