Chapter 67 Chapter 67
I dropped my phone on the nightstand and rolled out of bed, stretching and yawning then headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
When I was done, I washed my face and hands, staring at how tired I looked from my swollen eyes. Did I really cry that much last night? What the heck was that nightmare?
I shook my head to get rid of the horror of the thoughts and skipped out of the bathroom and flinched when I noticed Alpha Keegan standing a few feet away from me, he was in front of the vanity mirror, brushing his dark brown hair.
When he noticed me, he gazed at me while I started walking away, yet he still gazed at me all the way till I returned to bed and picked my phone.
"What happened to you last night?" he asked and walked over to me. Though his aura gave off the Alpha vibes, a hint of worry still flashed in his amber eyes.
"Nothing." I simply added and started scrolling through my phone but he wasn't leaving yet and sat beside me.
"What kind of nightmare did you have? You were sweating and crying so much and yelling at me. Does it have to do with me? Did you dream about me being a terrible Alpha?"
"Of course." A frown appeared on my face.
"What was it about? Did I hurt you recently?"
He was clearly not going to let me be and I couldn't take the risk of over-talking, so I forced a smile. " Nothing Alpha. I guess I was just really stressed and tired, so I had a crazy nightmare. It wasn't a big deal."
"It was. I have to admit I was so scared, I thought something was going to happen to you. You were so violent, but I'm glad you're fine now, right?" he asked and I nodded, still maintaining my feigned smile.
He still gazed at me with doubts still roaming in his eyes till he heaved a sigh and pulled me into a warm embrace. "Don't ever scare me like that again. Try to not overwork so you don't become too stressed out." He started stroking his hand through my wavy ash hair again.
I ought to be mad at him and not let him hug me, especially after the too-vivid flashback that came in the form of a nightmare, but I wasn't able to be mad at him. Being in his arms made me feel really relaxed and shut my emotions towards being mad at him.
"I thought you didn't like being hugged or hugging someone." I smirked as he pulled away.
"Uh..." he scratched the back of his neck, "yeah... I realized it's not- not that bad."
"Why? Because of me?" my smirked arched even more.
"What is wrong with you?" he rolled his eyes and rose to his feet. "Anyway, the party is coming up in a couple of days from now, and since I promised you a vacation before the party so you can come with me as my date, then we'll have to leave for the vacation anytime soon. It can be right now, later today, tomorrow- just let me know whenever you'll be ready, whatever time is perfect for you."
"Can it be tomorrow?
"If you want it to be tomorrow, then tomorrow it is. To be honest, I actually need this break way more than anyone else. My workload keeps getting bulky and though it's piling up every minute, I need a break from being Alpha." He admitted, shoving his hands into his pants pocket, an action I considered hot. It made him look like these sexy muscular models posing for a top magazine, and it made a flicker occur in my chest.
I shook the thought off. "I think I need this break more than you do. It's so annoying to work non-stop for so many people for free. I have to wake up really early in order to catch up with work to avoid being slapped by Mrs. Bea or being abused by anyone else. I have to cook for multiple people and if a few people don't appreciate it, I have to re-make something that'll suit their taste."
"You do that?" he wondered.
"Of course! So many times, though lately, I haven't really encountered any complaints about the meal, yet I have to clean everyone's rooms. Don't you know how big the pack house is? Yet I have to clean it, all alone. Sometimes, other girls might be assigned to clean some places partially, but I have to do everything! And the worst part of it all is that I never get a break. At least, you're the Alpha, you can decide to stop working or give yourself a break for a day, but a break for me, equals unending punishment from many people." I said in one breath, wondering how it even made any sense to make only one person do these things. "Oh, and that's not all of it. There are so many strenuous things I still have to do every day, like"
"It's fine, it's fine. I understand." He cut me off." Let's just agree we both need the break and select a location. There are so many options right now." He picked up his tablet and handed it over to me, scrolling through multiple beautiful vacation locations. "Just choose one."
"How am I supposed to choose one? They are all so damn beautiful, and look at those trees, damn!" I could feel the heat of excitement rushing up my body system. Was this really happening?
I stopped scrolling at the photo of a beautiful beach house; it was in front of the beach and surrounded by multiple amazing trees and flowers that I bet smelled very nice. It also had fresh sand around it and the surrounding looked really cool. "This seems perfect. What do you think?" I lifted my head to him.
"If you say it is, then I guess it is. I also love the place."
"I can't believe I'll also be here. Will it really be tomorrow?"
"Yes. Since it's quite far away from the pack house and we want to be alone, we can go with my private plane so we can be there on time."
"I'll be in a plane?" my eyes litted with bliss.
"Sure."
"Wow, it's so amazing. I can't wait! I love this idea."
"Me too. I have to overwork tonight so I'll balance things here before leaving. You should sneak out to go shopping. I don't want to create any drama, and you know how overly dramatic the pack members can be about you buying new things, so I'll assign Diane to go with you. You can also tag Chloe and Mae along if you trust them well enough."
I nodded, glad I was going to get new things again.
There was a knock on the door, accompanied by Mrs. Bea's voice. I couldn't hear what she said but Alpha Keegan did because he grumbled. "Lay on the bed, quickly!" he said before replying to her, "come in." As the door knob twisted, I did as instructed and went under the sheets, wondering what was going on. Mrs. Bea pushed the door open and walked up to us.
"Good morning, Alpha." She bowed at him then her signature frown was plastered on her face as she turned to me. "Why on earth are you still sleeping? Get up! There are so many chores to do." She flinged the sheet from my body.
"She's very sick. She can't work today, so she won't be able to do it." He lied. "she has been coughing all morning." He nudged me with his elbow and I pretended to cough then he scrunched his face up. "I feel like I might get infected. Just rest and you'll be treated. Mrs. Bea, assign someone else to do the task for today, she can't go around infecting everyone in the pack."
"But Alpha, according to the rules, the omega's sickness shouldn't tamper with her chores and what she's meant to do." She reminded him.
"I said she's sick," He said through gritted teeth, " assign someone else to do it."
"But Alpha-"
"How dare you argue?" He interrupted her by a low growl that escaped his throat with the sternness of his frown that made her shudder away and bow her head, showing her neck in surrender while he covered me back with the sheets. "What are you still standing here for?"
"Y-yes, I'll assign someone else and will take my leave now." She stuttered and scurried away, shutting the door on her exit.
Who knew Mrs. Bea could be so scared? She was always acting like a lioness or tigress around me and here she was, acting like a chicken around Alpha Keegan.
"That's all it took?" I sat up straight. "Why'd you lie on my behalf?"
"I didn't lie on your behalf. You're truly sick and like I said, I don't want so many questions to be raised. I'm the Alpha, but there are so many pack members that make life even harder, so it's best to avoid meddling with their mess."
"It's great!"
"You can go out for shopping, I'll assign Diane to you
"Sure! I'll inform Mae and Chloe." I was grinning from ear to ear.
We had been buying so many things but Diane wasn't ready to stop purchasing things, only taking us to different sections.
"I'm so jealous right now. When would my mate spoil me this much?" Chloe said with a deep breath.
"I'm also very jealous. We've purchased so many bags already."
"And we aren't done yet. Alpha Keegan instructed that until we reach the limit that he has assigned for you today, we shouldn't return home." She said. "Really? That's great!" Mae said.
"Let's buy some Victoria secret fabrics for Jane, what do you think?" Chloe asked Mae. "Sounds great!" "What's a Victoria secret?"
"Uh... nothing big. Just something you can wear when you're alone with the Alpha. Plus, you'll spend most time on the beach, you'll need a great swimsuit." Mae said with a sinister smile crawling up her lips.
"Yes." Chloe's smile matched hers as they pulled me to a Victoria's Secret section and no matter how much I protested, they bought so many lingerie and a few perfumes, ignoring the price tags on them. Some of the items looked ridiculous and were so strappy, I doubted if I could wear any of them, while some of them looked really nice but not like something I could feel confident enough to wear. After purchasing so many more items, Diane still brought it to our notice that we hadn't reached the limit, so Mae and Chloe had to buy extra things for themselves and me.
"Okay, these should be great."
Diane took the items to the cashier then after a while of waiting, she returned to us and heaved a sigh. "You still haven't spent up to the limit."
"Seriously? Can't we just leave it?"
"I can't disobey the Alpha's order." She said, maintaining her blank expression. "But it's too much already. I doubt if I can wear these for the next five years." I complained. She just kept quiet and folded her arms behind her.
'Hey,' I was startled to hear Alpha Keegan's voice in my head. 'She says you're complaining. This is like a one-time chance. Not until you spent all the money I budgeted for you today, you mustn't return and if you don't return, we won't be able to meet up with our vacation. You know you don't have to only spend it on clothes.' He ended the mind link.
"Is anyone else hungry? Let's head over to the most expensive restaurant in town and order anything we can, then we can buy more unnecessary things till the limit is exceeded."
"That sounds very great!" Chloe nodded. "I'll tell someone to send the bags to Alpha Keegan.
Hang on." She left then after a while, she returned. " Let's get going."
"I've never felt this rich!" Mae celebrated as we all left for the car and Diane drove us to the nearest restaurant.
Once we got in, the smell around the restaurant and everything about it seemed familiar but I couldn't exactly remember how it seemed familiar until we had our seats and I spotted Casper a few seats away from us. I instantly remembered that this was the restaurant he brought me on a date. I didn't remember it at first because it wasn't night time like when we came here, so it looked very different in the day.
Our gaze met then I waved at him. He waved back and headed in my direction.
"Hi Jane," he had a very calming smile on. "Hi Mae."
Mae smiled back at him nervously, glancing between both of us with slight fear in her eyes. "I totally forgot this was the restaurant where we had our date. It looks different." "Yes," he chuckled. "I was going to invite you to the party for a second make up date, but I heard you're going with Alpha Keegan." He sighed. "Who told you that?" my eyes widened. "What do you mean?" he stared at Mae. "She did."
"Mae?" I glanced at her. Her eyes were a bit widened and she was peering at me with a hint of fear ringing in her eyes. I didn't remember telling her about my date with Alpha Keegan, or did I tell her and didn't remember? "Oh... yeah, sorry about that."
"It's not a problem. I was just about to have lunch, but we can all have it together, right?"
"Yes, sure!" I shrugged and glanced at Mae who let out a sigh of relief.
"I'm so tired!" I exhaled and dropped on the bed with my arms spread out, glancing at the pile of the new things in front of the wardrobe. "Was that the best way you could think of punishing me?!" I glared at him where he sat in front of the table, typing away on his laptop.
He only chuckled and continued what he was working on.
"Hey," Scarlett knocked on the opened door and walked in without waiting for his permission.
She was in a red silky night dress that ended above her knees with spaghetti straps. Something about her presence made me feel uncomfortable, maybe it was because I hadn't been speaking to her that much lately or something else.
"Hi Keegan," she stopped in front of him with a smile, not paying attention to my existence.
"Do you need anything?" He didn't raise his gaze from his laptop.
"Yes. I was just reflecting on so many things and realized we've both been really engulfed in our responsibilities as the Alpha and Beta, so we don't really have the time to really do other things like we used to, so I was wondering..." she trailed off, putting up a cheesy smile, "we should go out for dinner sometime, just the two of us, just to reflect on old friendship memories and just remind ourselves that we also have our lives too other than our responsibilities."
He didn't respond to her, so she placed her hand on his shoulder. Her action made something flicker in me and when she pouted, a rage-like emotion I couldn't define came upon me. Alpha Keegan was only wearing a singlet so the way she was touching Please Keegan, for the sake of our friendship."
He finally lifted his gaze to her, wearing a frown, but his bare shoulder made me feel uncomfortable. " she flickered her eyes to make her look innocent, like a puppy.
"Fine!" he heaved a sigh. "Another day." "Great!" she exclaimed. "We'll have dinner and go on a walk like we used to. Thank you so much!" She took her leave with so much excitement and shut the door.
It made no sense if Scarlett was still trying to be Keegan's mate while I had intention of being his Luna for revenge.
Alpha Keegan glanced at me and I scoffed, turning my face away.
"What's with the sudden grumpiness?"
"I don't know. You seem to be forgetting the vacation we already planned and already agreed to something else." Why was I sounding mad?
"I never said I forgot the vacation. I already booked our flight and have the flight tickets right here. We're leaving for our vacation tomorrow, and neither Scarlett nor I mentioned anything about having dinner tomorrow.
"You should start packing. It's going to be a very long vacation because it's a perfect place to be free and explore so many emotions." The darkness that glided over his eyes made a shiver run down my spine and made me eager to know what was in stall for us.
