Chapter 313 Listen to My Advice
Chapter 313 Listen to My Advice
"What's wrong with you?"
"Did something happen to you?"
Benjamin noticed Isabella's red eyes and the dried tear tracks on her face.
Isabella also noticed Benjamin's messy hair, stubble, and the wrinkled, drooping collar of his shirt.
They both spoke at the same time again.
"Come on, let's race..."
Benjamin looked at the road ahead, then turned back to Isabella. "If I win, you tell me what made you sad, so I can have a good laugh. If you win, same deal. How about it? You in or not?"
"Bring it on, who's afraid of who!"
Throwing back the words Benjamin had just said harshly in his mind, Isabella glanced suspiciously at his disheveled shirt. "You're racing like that?"
He was only wearing a helmet, but no racing suit.
Although it was just a friendly race, if there was any collision, he'd be taking the hit directly.
Following Isabella's questioning gaze, Benjamin laughed. "My racing suit is at the River City track. What? should I go back and get it?"
He got a huge eye roll from Isabella.
Realizing he probably hadn't raced here before, Isabella sighed. "You probably haven't driven this road, so let's just mess around. Maybe next time..."
Then, thinking there probably wouldn't be a next time, Isabella paused mid-sentence.
Benjamin picked up where she left off. "Sure, let's consider it, getting a basic sense of each other's skills. Next time, when we're ready, let's have a real showdown!"
Isabella nodded. "Deal!"
"3..."
"2..."
"1..."
The moment Isabella finished saying "1," two roaring engines exploded into action.
The two black Ferraris shot out like Dementors from a movie, leaving only two dark shadows behind.
It was supposed to be a friendly race, but they chased each other relentlessly, neither giving an inch.
For a moment, Benjamin thought he was going to die there today!
Crazy!
Didn't she say they were just messing around?
Is this how she usually "messes around"?
But he had to admit, every time he brushed past death, the fire in his heart would shoot up a foot, then suddenly leap up another ten feet.
When the car screeched to a stop in the clearing at the mountaintop, and he opened the door, Benjamin felt dizzy, and his legs were weak.
But that suffocating feeling that had been pressing on his chest seemed to suddenly dissipate, leaving only a slight sourness that drifted down like a feather to settle in some corner of his heart.
"Thanks!"
He put his arm around Isabella and patted her shoulder, meeting her clear gaze.
Isabella wrinkled her nose in disgust and walked away.
"What... what's wrong?"
"Do you know what you smell like right now?"
"Do I smell?"
He lifted his collar to sniff—cigarette smoke mixed with alcohol and sweat. Benjamin made a face like he wanted to throw up.
"Catch..."
Hearing Isabella's voice, Benjamin turned around, raised his hand, and caught the water bottle she tossed him.
Looking up again, he saw Isabella opening her water bottle and sitting down on a large rock quite far away.
Benjamin fell silent.
"Hey, you won, aren't you going to ask about my embarrassing story and have a good laugh?"
"Either you got dumped, or you have some terminal illness and don't have long to live. What's the big deal!"
"Can't you wish me well? Why can't it be something like my business not doing well?"
He received another big eye roll.
Taking a sip of water, letting the night wind on the mountaintop blow cold on her face and through her hair, Isabella said casually, "If there's a business problem, your family can solve it for you. Except for getting dumped, no one can help with that. What else could it be?"
The analysis made sense.
Benjamin raised an eyebrow, carefully moved a few steps toward Isabella, sat down, and lay back on the ground. "What about you?"
The words were on the tip of her tongue, but Isabella glanced at his unreliable appearance—he didn't seem like a suitable person to confide in.
Isabella swallowed her words. "My mom is pressuring me to get married, but I... I don't want to. That simple, that boring!"
Benjamin's mood suddenly improved.
"Hey, is it that you don't want to get married, or that no one wants to marry you?"
Sitting up, completely ignoring the dirt all over his head and face, Benjamin looked at Isabella gleefully. "Let me tell you, you're actually pretty, but your hair is that awkward length, and you don't look feminine at all. And your clothes..."
He gestured with his mouth toward Isabella's white racing suit, and Benjamin said with a reminiscent expression, "We've met twice now, right? Last time, you were in a black T-shirt and jeans. If it weren't for your face, I'm telling you, standing next to Becca, people would definitely think you were her bodyguard."
"Take my advice... grow your hair out, throw out all the clothes in your closet, and get some feminine ones! Within six months, I guarantee you'll have suitors lined up from Empire City all the way to River City!"
With each sentence Benjamin spoke, Isabella's expression grew colder.
By the time he finished, even Isabella's gaze had turned cold.
"Feminine?"
She slowly stood up, brushed off the dirt, not caring that the wind blew it into Benjamin's face and mouth, making him grimace and wave his hands.
Isabella looked at Benjamin with a cold laugh. "Who says women only look good with long hair, only look good in dresses, and only have femininity with long hair and dresses?"
"Benjamin, no wonder you got dumped!"
"With your blind taste and narrow views, I'd dump you too if I were her!"
"You deserve it!"
Walking away as she spoke, Isabella's words were full of mockery and disdain.
Benjamin froze.
She actually had a point?
In his memory, those women who were beautiful in their own ways each had their own beauty, but their beauty was very similar.
Looking up again at Isabella in the Ferrari driver's seat—with her cold features and even colder expression, like a goddess of racing, both cool and beautiful—Benjamin really did see something different.
Thinking about how his words weren't very pleasant to hear, Benjamin quickly got up and chased after her.
"Sorry, sorry, I was being shallow. Don't hold it against me, okay?"
"Get mad at you? Who are you? Is it worth it?"
"...Well, we did have a pleasant evening together, how about adding each other's contact info?"
"There's no need. We're not the same kind of people. Let's just go our separate ways in a bit. You can continue pursuing your fair-skinned, beautiful goddess, and I won't trouble you for your advice!"
"Hey, I was just saying that casually. Why are you getting mad?"
Before Benjamin could finish speaking, the car window rolled up, and the Ferrari shot out with a roar.
Leaving him with a face full of exhaust fumes.
Benjamin fell silent.
