Chapter 312 Are You True to Yourself
Chapter 312 Are You True to Yourself
It was already dark when they left the winery.
Glancing at his phone, Benjamin's face turned even darker.
He remembered clearly - he'd come to Empire City the day before yesterday to find Frederick and the others, then came to the winery.
He hadn't done anything, just had a few drinks.
And just like that, two days had passed.
Benjamin fell silent.
Looking back, he saw Peter's worried face.
Benjamin waved his hands repeatedly, "I'm fine now, really fine... Your phone's been ringing all night. If you don't answer it soon, it's really going to explode!"
Pointing at Peter's buzzing pants pocket, Benjamin turned and hugged Peter.
He patted his own pockets, trying to remember where he'd put them, when a dark shadow flew past.
Benjamin instinctively reached out and caught the car keys Peter tossed to him.
Walking Benjamin all the way to the parking lot, Peter gave him a hearty pat. "Anyway, if anything comes up, find Frederick. If you're feeling down, come to my place - unlimited booze! And when you're feeling better, unlimited girls too!"
In the past, Benjamin would have cheerfully responded, "Sounds good!"
But now, his throat felt blocked by something, unable to make a single sound.
He nodded, then turned around, waving as he pulled open the car door and got in.
The black Ferrari shot into the night like an arrow.
The pitch-black night seemed torn apart by the blinding headlights as the SUV with its high beams on roared away with thumping music.
Leaving behind only a bunch of noisy notes.
Benjamin drove aimlessly.
His brain gave him a clear instruction: drive back to the hotel, turn off the phone and lights, sleep like there's no tomorrow, and everything would be fine when he woke up.
There was no problem that a drinking session couldn't solve.
Just like these past two days when he'd been drunk out of his mind, and when he woke up, he wasn't as heartbroken as when he'd received that invitation.
Go back and sleep, and when he woke up, everything would be fine.
All those feelings of sadness, unwillingness, regret... all those low emotions that appeared on him like something out of a fantasy—they'd all be over!
But why did his chest feel so stuffy that he couldn't catch his breath?
The car stopped by the roadside, night wind rushing in through the window, messing up his hair.
His face felt ice cold.
But Benjamin felt like there was a fire in his heart.
The flames leaped high, as if the next moment they would burst into black smoke, shooting up to the sky, then disappear into nothing.
But somehow, it was like there wasn't enough wood; the fire wasn't strong enough.
Just missing that last spark!
He thought about going for another drinking session, but opening his contacts, Benjamin didn't want to call anyone.
The second before he started the car, the roar of engines filled the night sky. Benjamin's breathing paused, and he turned to look toward the brightly lit place not far away.
It was already evening, but under the city's bright neon lights, the huge "Freely" sign was clearly visible.
It looked shady, like a bar.
But with just one glance, Benjamin knew it had to be a racing track.
There was no other possibility.
Taking a deep breath, Benjamin started the car and drove straight to Freely.
Nobody at the front desk.
But the door was just left open, as if they weren't afraid of thieves.
Nobody in the back either.
Then, remembering it was Valentine's Day, Benjamin went straight to the track.
In the huge racing track, a black Ferrari was like a bolt of lightning, lap after lap, seemingly tireless.
Just watching it, Benjamin felt the fire in his heart burn even stronger.
In the Ferrari's driver's seat, Isabella's face was completely covered in moisture.
Impossible to tell if it was sweat or tears, the hair at her temples was wet and sticking to her cheeks.
With each exhale, the hot breath hitting the helmet visor would create a layer of white fog.
Before the white fog could clear, another layer would form.
Looking down, she saw the speedometer showing 180.
Every time the speed exceeded 200, Isabella had a thought.
Let go!
Let go, and everything would be over!
But as soon as her hands gripping the steering wheel loosened slightly, Isabella would grip tight again.
She couldn't do it!
This was her beloved racing, and there was the brand new track that Becca and Frederick gave her.
And all those racers at the track.
If something happened to her, the track would have to shut down.
With those racers' records and qualifications, they could find another track or club and start a new round of free‑flying.
But what about her?
If she just left like this, what was the point of all that day and night training?
'Isabella, can you face yourself?'
'But I'm really so tired!'
The two voices twisted together like a rope, and Isabella didn't know what to choose.
Before she could figure it out, a sharp engine sound came from behind.
In the rearview mirror, as if copy-pasted, a black Ferrari was closing in behind, its speed visibly increasing.
No time to think about who it was.
Or why they would appear at her place at this time.
Only one thought in her mind: Bring it on!
Isabella floored the gas and shot forward.
In the bright track, two identical black Ferraris chased each other, neither giving way.
At every turn, the car behind would overtake on the bend.
But at the next intersection, it would be overtaken again.
After just a few laps, the car in front gradually slowed down.
In the driver's seat of the car behind, Benjamin was about to roll down the window and yell, "Keep going!"
Then he saw the front car's window open, and a racer in a white racing suit stuck their head out and made a face.
He'd seen people provoke before, but never seen anyone dare to provoke so arrogantly!
Benjamin floored the gas and charged forward.
The expected crash didn't happen.
The engine roared again, and the Ferrari ahead drove out through the slowly opening track gate.
After only a moment's hesitation, Benjamin followed.
From the south of the city to the suburbs, then all the way to the foot of the mountain road.
Before Benjamin could react, the taillights of the car ahead flashed twice.
Benjamin didn't know what it meant.
Wild guess - was the other person asking if he dared to race?
Bring it on, who's afraid!
Benjamin turned on his high beams, hitting the left rearview mirror of the car ahead precisely.
For a moment, Isabella wanted to give up.
This racer behind her—why did they seem as childish as an idiot?
But having come this far, might as well have one last good race before dying!
Exhaling a breath of stale air, Isabella slowly drove the car to the left side of the road, giving the outer lane - better for overtaking - to the car behind.
As that car slowly approached and the two cars stopped side by side.
Isabella turned around and froze.
Benjamin froze, too.
"Why is it you?"
"Why is it you?"
From the left and right car windows, both spoke in unison.
