Chapter 310 As Happy as Us
Chapter 310 As Happy as Us
The entire banquet hall fell silent.
Benjamin's words were slurred and unclear. By the time they reached Rebecca, they only left everyone looking even more confused.
Seeing that Melissa had remained silent the whole time, yet wore a suspicious smile on her face, Rebecca blinked.
Melissa glanced back at the half-drunk Benjamin and said softly, "The one who was supposed to marry Mr. White was Dora Davis—really lively and straightforward. She and Mr. White... how should I put it..."
As if unsure how to continue, Melissa took a sip of wine, shook her head, and sighed. "Mr. White is quite a jerk."
Rebecca opened her mouth but said nothing.
Although Frederick had also said that Benjamin and Peter were the same type as him.
But those were words Melissa could say—she couldn't.
"At first, Dora pursued him, but he wasn't interested. Since he didn't agree, he was single and could do whatever he wanted. Later on, the two families arranged a marriage, and Benjamin agreed to it. But look at him..."
Melissa curved her lips. "I don't know what he was like in River City, but after coming to Empire City, the women around him kept changing. If I were Dora, I wouldn't be happy either. An arranged marriage—you can marry into any family, right?"
Rebecca nodded, putting herself in Dora's shoes. "If I were Dora, I'd marry someone who doesn't get along with Mr. White. That would either infuriate him or disgust him to death!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw the amusement in Melissa's eyes.
Rebecca froze.
Melissa smiled with endless charm.
Rebecca's mouth hung half-open. "She actually did that?"
Melissa nodded, "The Davis family called off the engagement. The two families parted on good terms. Later, somehow, the Davis family connected with the King family and arranged a marriage with them. By the time Mr. White came to his senses, their wedding banquet had already started."
Looking back, Benjamin had already passed out on the table.
Who knew if he had fallen in love with Dora but wouldn't admit it.
Or if he just couldn't accept that Dora had quietly left him and moved on.
Either way, his pain was visible to the naked eye.
"She’s so cool and awesome—I really want to meet her if I get the chance!"
Rebecca said softly, but couldn't help sighing.
Beside her, Melissa also sighed.
The two said in unison, "I hope she's happy!"
Melissa had originally wanted to ask Rebecca—since she and Dora were similar, both having been on-and-off with their exes for years before ending up with someone else—was she happy?
But seeing how Rebecca kept turning back to look at Frederick, and how when their eyes occasionally met, Rebecca would quickly turn away like she'd been caught doing something wrong, Melissa felt there was no need to ask.
"Honey, let's go!"
At the familiar call, Melissa tilted her head back to finish the last sip of wine, got up and linked her arm through Ethan's.
The married couples went home.
Peter, the single guy, stayed behind to look after Benjamin.
Rebecca and Frederick had walked quite far from the venue, yet they could still hear Peter loudly cursing them for being heartless.
"Frederick, don't you feel sorry for Benjamin?"
As the car drove out of the winery grounds, Rebecca turned back to ask.
"Sorry?"
Taking her hand, Frederick said in a low voice, "She gave him plenty of chances. If he'd seized even one of them, they'd have kids by now. Since he missed them all, it means they were fated to meet but not to be together. They were bound to miss each other eventually."
Whether it was unwillingness or real love.
The fact proves that what's missed is missed, with no room for turning back.
Never mind that the White family couldn't afford to offend the King family.
Even if they could, with things having reached this point, the White family wouldn't let Benjamin do anything stupid.
"Don't worry about him."
Frederick joked, "After getting drunk a few times and sobering up, he'll finally act like a decent person!"
"I hope Dora can be happy..."
Rebecca sent all her best wishes to Dora, who got married today. Frederick thought Rebecca would say, "hopefully pissing Benjamin off."
Unexpectedly, Rebecca looked at him tenderly, "Just like us."
Frederick's heart raced.
When the car suddenly accelerated, Rebecca's face went pale.
Coming back to her senses, she felt Frederick's palm burning hot.
Her wildly pounding heart gradually calmed down, barely holding on until she walked into the bathroom.
Fine water droplets formed streams, just falling from the showerhead when the bathroom door opened.
Rebecca froze. Frederick was already standing under the shower, backing her into the corner.
Frederick's eyes were bloodshot.
The last time they were together was on the top floor of the Windsor Group.
After that, Alice came back, and she'd been occupied with Alice.
He thought that after Alice left, he could finally sleep holding Becca, but then something happened at the studio.
He'd been holding back and holding back all this time, until today.
If Peter hadn't said Benjamin was about to drink himself to death and they needed to show up or he couldn't handle it alone, Frederick wouldn't have planned to go out.
But now, Becca standing before him was better than any scenery. Frederick felt he couldn't wait another second.
"Becca..."
Guiding Rebecca's hand downward, Frederick breathed heavily, nibbling at the soft skin on the back of Rebecca's neck. Only when she kept kept sliding down did he urgently lift her.
The enclosed bathroom had perfect acoustics.
Breathing sounds.
Soft moans.
Along with those intimate, blush-inducing wet sounds.
All the sounds were amplified infinitely, then fell back into their ears, becoming an even stronger catalyst.
In his movements, he caught sight of their reflection in the mirror.
His breath hitched, and Frederick kissed more urgently.
Rebecca's already melodious sounds were instantly shattered.
Echoing endlessly.
Lingering on and on...
