Chapter 309 Learning from Mr. Windsor's Resolve
Chapter 309 Learning from Mr. Windsor's Resolve
"This is my... fiancé!"
She didn't even know his name, not even his last name.
Esme forced herself to stay calm as she made the introduction.
Gavin's expression kept changing.
He glared at Esme.
Then he looked at Damon, who was leagues ahead of him in looks, physique, and presence.
Gavin sneered, "Esme, I get it now! Did you cheat on me before we even broke up?"
"Why are you wasting words on a guy like him?"
Damon cut off Esme again, blocking the indignant words about to leave her mouth.
He grabbed a glass of champagne from a server's tray and pressed it into her hand. With an amused look, Damon glanced Gavin up and down, "Since you're the ex, have some sense of timing. Don't keep showing up in front of my wife trying to get attention. Get lost!"
Gavin's face turned red with anger.
But that watch on Damon's wrist alone showed he was someone Gavin couldn't afford to mess with.
He just wondered when and how Esme had hooked up with Damon.
Looking up again, Damon had already put his arm around Esme and was heading toward the window.
Out of the corner of his eye, Gavin could see people around them constantly looking their way. He forced himself to maintain his composure and headed toward the restroom.
Almost the moment Gavin turned around, Damon's hand dropped away.
Esme breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank you..."
As soon as the words left her mouth, Esme realized something was off.
Brown jacket, dress pants, and a white shirt underneath.
Looking at his height and appearance, Damon was as handsome as a runway model.
He didn't look like a designer attending this reception.
And even less likely to be a ride-share driver.
"Star Studio, Damon."
Damon smoothly handed over a business card.
Esme was stunned.
She'd heard of Star Studio—it was a very famous design studio in Empire City.
But compared to jewelry design, Star Studio was most talked about for its marketing capabilities.
Any designer who came out of Star Studio became famous faster than designers from other studios.
Personal exhibitions for their designers.
Sponsored brand jewelry shows.
And all sorts of various activities.
Star, as its name suggested, seemed to want to create the brightest stars in the shortest time, helping domestic designers get ahead and go global, then build domestic luxury jewelry brands.
On the business card, Damon's name was followed by his position.
Design Director.
"Mr. Cooper, thank you so much for today!"
Esme thanked him sincerely, then asked with an amused expression, "Thanks for helping me out just now! Also, may I ask—do you have any plans to switch jobs?"
Realizing she had misunderstood when she took that ride with him earlier.
Damon laughed, "I lost a game of truth or dare with some friends at a party!"
He'd lost, and his friend's dare was to work as a ride-share driver.
By coincidence, he'd picked up Esme.
Even more coincidentally, they were going to the same place.
"Talk about perfect timing."
Damon smiled, "I just wanted to knock him down a peg, but I didn't expect you to be from Rebecca's studio. So helping you out means helping one of our own."
Thinking back to that moment and Gavin's red face, Esme felt particularly satisfied.
When Damon mentioned Rebecca, Esme asked curiously, "You and my Rebecca..."
"I know her, she doesn't know me."
Thinking back to that year when he went to Empire University looking for rising star designers, when the beautiful girl rejected his offer without even bothering to make up a polite excuse—just a direct "sorry, not interested."
Damon smiled, "I was thinking about poaching you, but since you're with Rebecca's studio, then... work hard with her. Good luck!"
"Thank you, Mr. Cooper!"
Esme thanked him again. When clinking glasses with Damon, she noticed he wasn't drinking at all and praised him for not drinking and driving.
Damon tilted his chin toward Gavin, who kept looking back at them from a distance, "Might as well finish what I started. If I drink, I won't be able to drive you home, and then we'd be exposed, right?"
Thinking about Damon driving her home after the reception, Esme felt both embarrassed and nervous, her heart pounding hard.
The reception ended at 10 PM.
After she gave the address, the Rolls-Royce drove straight out of the complex.
Half an hour later, it stopped at the entrance of Esme's residential community.
Seeing that Damon didn't ask which building she lived in, Esme unconsciously felt relieved.
She waved goodbye, watching the Rolls-Royce turn around and drive away, then quickly called Rebecca.
Rebecca really didn't know Damon.
But that didn't stop her from knowing Damon was Star's Design Director.
"I've seen his work..."
Rebecca let out a long sigh, "Esme, if in five years we can be half as good as him, we should count ourselves lucky!"
Esme's eyebrows shot up.
On the other end, Rebecca continued, "And more impressive than his design talent is his eye for people. Many of the internationally renowned designers in their studio were poached by him, so everyone in the industry is afraid of offending him, scared he'll come poaching."
Esme's heart beat even faster.
Thinking about how Damon said he wanted to poach her, even though he was probably joking, Esme couldn't help feeling excited.
"Mr. Getty, don't worry, I'll work hard!"
After making her solemn promise and hanging up, Esme took a deep breath and ran forward excitedly.
In a private wine cellar room, Rebecca put away her phone. When she returned to Frederick's side, Ethan, across from them, had a teasing expression, "Mr. Getty, you don't need to be so dedicated this late at night, do you?"
Looking at Melissa, then at Rebecca, Ethan smiled, "You're putting a lot of pressure on us men! Don't work so hard—you just need to look pretty! Right, Mr. Windsor?"
Frederick's gaze fell on Rebecca's face, gentle and doting, "Me? I have nothing to say. I think whatever Becca does is perfectly right!"
Ethan fell silent.
"See that? Learn from Mr. Windsor's attitude!"
With a laughing eye roll at Ethan, Melissa got up and pulled Rebecca to a corner to drink and chat.
Peter's gaze slid from Ethan to Frederick, then to Benjamin, who'd been drinking all evening moodily, and finally felt balanced.
"Benjamin, come on, tell us what's bothering you so I can cheer you up!"
Peter egged him on.
Benjamin rubbed his face and slammed his glass on the card table, "The woman I love got married. Happy now?"
That one sentence created a moment of frozen atmosphere.
Frederick's eyes paused slightly, as if thinking of something, remaining silent.
Ethan looked smug, glad he'd acted quickly.
Only Peter had a puzzled expression, "What's going on with you?"
