Chapter 129 You Almost Killed Her
The bone-chilling cold felt like millions of needles, piercing densely into her skin and hair.
Her body seemed frozen, unable to move freely.
The light underwater was dim. She could barely make out that patch of white in the distance, slowly sinking.
Rebecca held her breath and struggled to swim in that direction.
It was clearly just a few meters away, but no matter how hard Rebecca swam, she couldn't seem to reach him.
She could only see clearly that it was just as Frederick had said on the phone—a white down jacket, black pants.
A stream of bubbles went from many to few.
Without even struggling, he sank downward with limbs spread out, like a speck of dust.
Rebecca pushed forward desperately, but still couldn't reach him.
'Alex. Let's just hold on a little longer, just a little, okay?' She said in her mind.
Frederick is already on his way to get us. Soon, we'll be able to go home.
Soon.
Bubbles escaped from her nose. Rebecca used her last bit of strength to kick toward him.
Her fingertips touched his fingertips. Rebecca reached out and grabbed tight.
The next moment, everything went black, and she fell into endless darkness.
The phone kept ringing with no answer, so Frederick simply hung up.
Looking around, there was no sign of Rebecca near the carousel.
The sound of ambulances grew from distant to near.
Amusement park staff rushed toward the west gate.
His brow twitched. Frederick chased after them almost unconsciously.
His phone rang repeatedly.
"Mr. Windsor, we've found Alex."
"What about Becca?"
"People in the east, south, and north sections haven't seen her. The west section team went toward the ice lake..."
Frederick hung up and rushed toward the ice lake like the wind.
He saw Rebecca being pulled out of the water by a group of people.
Her face was pale.
Her lips had turned deep purple.
Even though she was unconscious, Rebecca's hand still gripped the little boy's hand tightly.
On the ice, a young woman was crying loudly.
People around were talking, saying it was good they were rescued, thank goodness everyone was okay.
But Frederick couldn't hear anything.
His ears seemed to have gone deaf. Frederick rushed forward in a few steps.
The doctor had finished emergency treatment. Rebecca's breathing had returned, and her clenched hand had loosened, but she was still unconscious.
Frederick picked up the soaking wet Rebecca and rushed into the ambulance.
It sped toward the hospital with sirens blaring.
Rebecca was wheeled out of the emergency room over half an hour later.
"The patient is out of danger now."
Not knowing what this man standing outside the emergency room's identity was, but just seeing the usually too-busy-to-meet hospital director personally accompanying him, they knew his status was extraordinary.
The emergency room doctor said, "However, due to the sudden drop in body temperature, her brain activated its self-protection program, so she's still in deep sleep. Once her body functions recover, she'll wake up."
Frederick thanked them in a low voice and followed to the hospital room.
The hand wrapped in his palm had returned to normal temperature.
The beeping sound from the monitor by the bed also indicated Rebecca's steady and strong heartbeat.
Even so, Frederick's heart couldn't stop feeling cold.
A shadow passed outside the door.
Frederick turned around and saw Alex holding Mike's hand, his eyes full of panic and guilt.
His expression instantly darkened. Frederick stared at Alex for a few moments.
Then, he gently placed Rebecca's hand back under the blanket, stood up, and walked out.
The little boy, not even as tall as his belt, couldn't stop tears from falling the moment their eyes met.
But Frederick showed no mercy.
His mind was filled with images of Rebecca being pulled from the lake, as fragile and vulnerable as seaweed.
"Alexander, do you see? This is the consequence of your willfulness..."
Frederick's words were ice-cold. "You almost killed her!"
Alex ran crying toward the hospital bed.
