Chapter 23–A New Start
Ella's POV:
It seemed like I had just come back from another world entirely. My mouth was so dry like I hadn't eaten in days- no scratch that in months. The sharp pain from my head had me thinking if I was hit by a trailer.
I open my eye and the brightness from the bulb almost got me blind. How long could I have shut my eyes?
As I try to adjust my eyes to the light, I slowly try to figure out where exactly I was. White curtains, The beeping sounds from different machines, The blue hospital robe, The strong smell of disinfectant and the numerous amount of pipes connected to different parts of my body, confirmed I was in a hospital. I tried to remember something, anything I just couldn't. But I do remember I go by the name Mary. Yes, Mary.
There was a stranger standing at the distant edge on a phone call with a child in his hand. Who could they be? I questioned myself. What exactly happened and who are these strange people.
As if he could sense what I was thinking, he looked at my side and the joy on his face was questioning. He was smiling with so much happiness that I was beginning to wonder if he knew me because I definitely didn't know him.
"Babe you are finally awake. It seemed like forever. For God's sake, you've been in a coma for a month and some weeks. I was starting to think God wasn't going to answer my prayer. " he said.
"Sorry, Who is Ella and who are you? "
He was totally dumbfounded he couldn't even get out a single word from his mouth. He even had to come very close to me that his head was almost touching mine. He was acting like he wanted to look into my soul.
I was starting to panic. Was he trying to kill me? But he had a child in his hands for Godsake. Wow, what a strong striking resemblance.
"Please what happened to me? And why are you calling me Ella? My name is Mary. Mary Patrick."
" Babe tell me you are joking right now. I know what I did was repulsive and I am sorry. Kendrick and I missed your presence so much. It's good to have you back. You were hit by a drunk driver. God must have woken you up so we could have a second chance and build our family again. "
He must have mistaken me for someone he knew. What family was that? I just want to go home but where exactly do I live? I better make things clear with this guy. He had the wrong person and was definitely in the wrong room.
"I think you must have mistaken me for someone else. I am not married, I don't have a child and I don't know what family you are talking about."
"Ok, this is the part where I call the doctor. I am totally lost."
Could it be that she must have lost her memory? No, no this cannot be happening. I must call the doctor immediately, he must have an answer to what could be happening at the moment. He thought.
Jade's POV:
Out of the thousand words that the doctor said, the only few I heard was " From the test carried out and the look of things she has lost her memory and on no account should you pressure her to remember anything. It is a gradual process it could take a year it could take months. She may never even remember. All we have to do now is pray for a quick recovery."
"She may never even remember" this sentence constantly kept on haunting my eardrums.
After a long chat with the doctor, the only solution I could come up with ways to trick her to work for me by taking care of Kendrick. Since she insisted on paying the hospital bills, "How can I pay you back for this kind gesture of saving my life by rushing me down here." She had said. I quickly offered her a nanny job.
One of the nurses must have told her she was brought in here by me. This was definitely a very big step and progress for me, for starters. She was going to be living in my house and she was under my watch.
Before her salary can pay up the hospital bill even after I slashed it, she was going to be working for me for a very long time. Just a few more weeks and she would be discharged. I had to change the interior decoration of the house. I didn't want anything that could trigger the last memory before the accident. It was too early.
Whoever taught her never to be indebted to anyone (her words) was doing me a great favour.
Kendricks mum was now officially his nanny. This was all messed up but was a good start.
