Chapter 22–Broken beyond repair
It's been a month and a few weeks since Ella's delivery. The baby's weight has drastically increased. Whatever was in the breast milk she was giving him definitely did the magic. Marriage preparation has been going on.
The deal with the Zamora's finally pushed through. My company was officially in the top five most productive company in the whole of Africa. My life was finally heading towards perfection.
The file for our upcoming project was nowhere in sight. I must have forgotten it at home. I quickly grab my car keys and head home.
From a distance, I see mothers red Ford jeep. What could mother be looking for at home at this time? She has refused to come by ever since that hospital incidence.
I park my car and head straight inside to get the file. On my way up, the heated argument between mother and Ella made me stop and listen to their conversation.
The next thing mother said turned my world upside down.
"What was that stunt you pulled at the hospital when you of all people know what the contract says and what is this rubbish about wanting to tell him you were paid to marry and bear him a child. You do know the severe consequences of your decision. You will do no such thing. He has been hurt once and I won't let it repeat itself ." She said.
If mothers statement turned my world upside down, Ella's confirmation to everything mother said shattered my world, my life, my dreams and my hope. History repeated itself but this time with a different scenario entirely.
I didn't even know what to do next. Run back to the office and pretend like all this never happened and continue to live a life of fairy tale or do exactly what the demon in me is telling me to do.
I went with the later.
"All that stage play was a nice one. Where are the cameras? Tell me this is some sort of show. Tell me!" I say this time around with a lot of authority.
They were both shivering like they had seen a ghost. Someone better say something before I lose my temper.
"Son calm down. Relax I can explain. Everything I did was for your benefit son, I promise."
"Oh, mother please you did it for your selfish reasons. Everything you did was for your selfish reasons and you know it deep down. Now I would be lenient enough for both of you to take your things and get the hell out of my building and premises before I get back. Is that understood."
"Baby I was going to tell you. Please don't do this to me, please. I love you. "
"When? Both of you had me looking like a fool at the hospital. I meant what I said. I want you out of this house and if possible out of Nigeria because I am definitely going to make your life as miserable as it was when next you cross my path. You don't want to find out what the devil in me is capable of doing. Don't test my patience."
"Baby, please. I beg you in the name of our baby. "
"Did you say 'our' because last time I checked, the very moment you signed that thing you ceased to be the mother of that child. So cancel every thought you have of walking out of this house with my child. "
I laid a lot of emphases so she can realize I was been very serious.
"No, no Jade you wouldn't do this to me. No, no, no. We can sort this out this is not you babe. I love you. "
Her presence was irritating me at the moment and the fact that she was acting like a psycho even made things worse. I better call security to throw her out. I wouldn't want her to harm herself in my house or do anything drastic."
Mother had silently walked out in tears and probably shame. She knows never to stay in the premises anytime I am in this state.
I immediately call security to evacuate Ella from my building. I gave her time to pack her things but she was definitely too stubborn. Not even two grown men could hold her. She had gathered the strength of a mad person in such a short amount of time.
I was watching her from my top window, she still hadn't run out of energy. I was about to close the curtain when I saw a car manoeuvring towards where she was standing and she was so oblivious to what was happening in her environment.
I just kept on shouting at the top of my voice for her to get away from there but she couldn't make out what I was saying.
With the speed of lightning, everything happened so fast she was on the floor totally unconscious in a pool of blood.
I ran down with the speed of lightning. Never have I prayed so hard in life. If we can just rewind the hand of time, I promise to forgive her. The ambulance came and rushed her to the Grace land hospital in the neighbourhood. I quickly put a call through to my personal assistant to please help me take care of Kendrick for the main time.
I wait for my P. a to show up before I leave for the hospital. While I was waiting for my P. a, I called the hospital and requested for the best of the best doctors to operate on her.
This was one of those moments when I was very grateful for the connections I had.
