Blood of the Betrayer

The forest was silent as Thorne carried Luna through the trees. Her skin was hot with heat, the poison still fighting against Liam's moon dust. His pack followed behind, moving like shadows.

"Why did you save her?" Luna whispered. Her eyes were half-closed, black veins still visible on her neck.

Thorne didn't answer. His face was hard as stone.

When they reached a small clearing, Thorne set Luna down carefully on a bed of moss. He pulled a small bottle from his pocket. The liquid inside glowed blue.

"Drink," he ordered.

Luna turned her face away. "I won't help you hurt them."

"This isn't poison," Thorne said, his voice softer now. "It's the cure. I never wanted you dead, Luna."

She looked at him with surprise. "Then why shoot me with the poisoned arrow?"

Thorne's golden eyes flashed with pain. "I needed them to think I was the monster they believe me to be." He lifted the bottle again. "Please. We don't have much time."

After a moment's pause, Luna drank. The black veins began to fade instantly.

"Now tell me why," she ordered. "Why are you doing this? What is this really about?"

Thorne looked toward the moon, now rising fully above the trees. "It's time they knew the truth," he said. "All of it."

Back in the Stone Circle, the wolves who had fallen to Morta's purple smoke were starting to wake. Their eyes glowed with the same purple light.

"Don't let them touch you!" Sage warned as a young woman reached for Aria with glowing hands.

Liam, Elijah, Aria, and Sky stood back-to-back in the middle of the circle. The half-flesh skeleton that housed Morta watched with cruel pleasure.

"The barrier will fall any moment now," Morta said with glee. "And then your little pack will tear itself apart."

"Not if I can help it," Liam said. He reached for Elijah's hand. Silver light sparked where their skin touched.

The skeleton's smile faltered. "Stop that," she hissed.

"The moon dust," Sage called from where she hid behind a stone. "Use it on your friends!"

Elijah nodded at Liam. Together, they focused on the leftover silver dust still floating in the air. It spun faster, brighter, then shot toward the nearest purple-eyed wolf.

Where the dust touched, purple glow faded. One by one, the wolves began to wake from Morta's spell.

"No!" Morta screamed. "This isn't possible!"

But before the dust could reach everyone, the purple barrier around the Stone Circle flickered and fell. The full moon's light filled the stones.

"Too late," Morta laughed. "They're coming."

From the forest edge, Thorne stepped into the moonlight. Luna walked beside him, looking weak but determined. Behind them came the Shadow Pack, not charging to attack as expected, but walking slowly, their faces somber.

"Look who arrived just in time," Morta said. "My faithful servant."

Thorne looked at the half-flesh skeleton with disgust. "I was never your servant, Morta."

A mutter of surprise ran through both packs.

"What?" Morta's voice cracked with rage. "You dare betray me now?"

"I was never loyal to you," Thorne said. His voice carried across the clearing. "I was playing my part. Just as my ancestors have for five hundred years."

All eyes turned to Thorne as he continued walking forward. He stopped at the end of the Stone Circle.

"Tell them, Elijah," Thorne said. "Tell them what your father told you about my family."

Elijah paused, then spoke. "That your ancestor helped suppress the Omega powers. That you want to keep Alphas in control."

Thorne laughed bitterly. "Is that what Marcus told you? Of course it is." He turned to address both packs. "My ancestor, Kieran Ravencrest, was the only Alpha who stood WITH the Omegas."

A shocked silence fell over the stones.

"That's a lie," Morta spat.

"It's the truth," Luna said, stepping forward. "Show them, Thorne."

From his pocket, Thorne pulled out an old leather pouch. He opened it and removed what looked like a piece of broken bone, etched with weird symbols.

"This is a piece of the original guardian," Thorne revealed. "Before Morta corrupted it."

Sage gasped. "The guardian's rib! It was said to be lost forever."

"My family kept it safe," Thorne said. "Passed down through generations, waiting for the right time." He looked straight at Liam. "Waiting for you."

"Me?" Liam asked.

"The descendant of the first Omega," Thorne nodded. "Just as Elijah carries the blood of the first Alpha."

Morta's skeleton body began to shake with anger. "Lies! All lies!"

Thorne continued as if she hadn't spoken. "Kieran Ravencrest was murdered trying to stop Morta. The history was rewritten to make him the villain." His voice cracked with emotion. "My family has lived in shame for centuries, branded as traitors. Everything I've done – the attacks, the threats – was to push you two together."

"That doesn't make sense," Elijah said. "You tried to poison us."

"I needed to get Luna inside your circle," Thorne explained. "She carried the cure for Morta's magic in her blood."

Luna stepped forward, rolling up her sleeve to show silver marks like Liam's. "I'm an Omega too. One Thorne has protected all these years."

Morta screamed with rage. The skin on the skeleton burned away, leaving only bones again, glowing bright purple. "Enough games!" she howled. "If I can't control you, I'll destroy you all!"

Purple fire exploded from the skeleton's hands, shooting toward Thorne and Luna. Without pause, Liam jumped forward, his hands raised. A silver shield emerged, blocking Morta's attack.

"Now, Thorne!" Liam shouted.

Thorne tossed the bone piece to Elijah. "Catch!"

As Elijah caught the rib bone, a strange thing happened. The marks on it began to glow with golden light that matched his eyes. At the same time, silver light poured from Liam's hands.

"Together!" Sage called. "The Alpha and Omega must act together!"

Elijah ran to Liam's side. The moment they touched, gold and silver light merged, forming a blinding white beam that struck the skeleton.

The purple glow flickered. For a moment, the skeleton seemed to freeze. Then it spoke – not with Morta's voice, but with a deep, old tone that echoed through the stones.

"The balance returns," it said.

Morta's scream cut through the night. The skeleton collapsed to the ground, bones scattering across the stones.

For one heartbeat, everyone stood in stunned silence.

Then the bones began to move again. Slowly, they gathered themselves, reforming not into a human shape, but into something else – something with four legs and a long spine.

"It's changing," Noah whispered in awe.

The guardian was becoming a wolf. A massive, bone wolf with eyes that glowed neither purple nor silver, but a mixture of both.

It raised its head and howled. The sound shook the earth beneath their feet.

But before anyone could celebrate, a dark shadow rose from the scattered pieces of the original skeleton. The shadow took shape – Morta's true form, a woman made of darkness and purple flame.

"This isn't over," she hissed. Her eyes fixed on Thorne. "You think you've won? You've only revealed yourself as the traitor you are."

With blinding speed, Morta launched herself at Thorne. Luna screamed. Liam and Elijah rushed forward. But they were too late.

Morta's hand plunged into Thorne's chest. Not through flesh, but through spirit. She pulled something shining from within him – his life force.

As Thorne fell, Morta laughed. "Now I have the blood of the betrayer," she said. "The final piece I need."

And then she vanished into the night, taking Thorne's essence with her.
