Chapter 93 Chapter 93
LISA'S POV
I waited outside Damien's office for just a moment. I was tired of being told off when things got serious. I had not run away until now, and I wasn't going to start now. Running was what cowards did, and if he thought that I was a coward, then he had another thing coming.
So, I summoned up courage and pushed the door open. His eyes rose up just as I walked in. He stood by the window, one hand in his pocket and his phone in his hand.
But he had that look on his face, the one that said he had found out something and was about to take a very sick decision that I would not like.
"What is it? What did you get?" I bombarded him, strutting inside his office, instantly not caring about the way he was currently glaring at me.
"Ljsa, I already told you..."
"And I heard you. I heard you, and I left, but right now you want to make a decision about something. What is it?" I asked.
He handed his phone to me, and I looked at it. It was an encrypted message requesting a meeting at a particular location. The sender ID was not visible, but Gabriel Sanchez had signed the message.
"Are you considering going?" I looked at him, surprised. This could not be a mere coincidence.
"Considering? I am going." He moved past me and unlocked his safe. Opening it, he pulled out his personal gun and strapped it in his jacket.
"I don't understand, don't you see that it is too much of a coincidence? This is a bad idea. It could very well be a setup, and you know this."
"I don't care, I get one chance to put a bullet in his head, and I'm taking it." He was unbelievable. How could he be so irrational?
"Alright, but you're not going alone. I'm going with you."
"No, you're not. You're going to stay here and stay out of my way." He replied coldly. He loaded another gun and set it in the second part of his jacket.
"No, I'm not. You can't always take the risks by yourself. Okay? I got you that flash, and all of a sudden, Gabriel can reach you? I mean, if he had a means of contacting you all this time, then why didn't he do that?"
"Why now? The coincidence is just too much, Damien. All I'm saying is that you need to think this through properly. It could be a setup."
He regarded me like always. Stubborn, I know I was, but none of that mattered now that he was about to put himself and all of us in danger.
"Have you told Duke and the guys?" I asked. He frowned at me and did not respond.
"So, you sent Duke on a time stamp job, and you intend to go kill yourself? Come on, Damien, you know better than that."
"Fine, you can come. But I don't need anyone's backup because I can't trust anyone. Not even you." He said, and I shook my head in disbelief. I could not believe him at all.
"Why then? If you don't trust me, then why let me come?" I asked, just to be sure.
"Because I know you won't shoot me in the back. Also, you have never had contact with Gabriel; you are the safest option for this." He replied.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head. We walked out of the house normally, as if we were just going for a drive.
The location was an hour's drive from the mansion. It was a secluded area where a farmland stood. There was a large stall there that had a red roof and glass window fixtures set.
"Is this the location?" I asked him when we arrived. We were far from any other houses and from the main road.
"That is what it says on the map. Well, wait here, I'll go check it out." Damien said and pulled out his gun. Of course, the logical choice was to sit still and wait, but considering the options, I would have rather followed him.
I waited for a couple of minutes, looking behind us and around us, but there was no one in sight. And then I looked closer in the distance and spotted what looked like a white truck parked near another small building far across the field.
"Damien! I think I found something." He popped out of the corner almost immediately.
"What is it?" I pointed in the distance, and he saw it too. The truck and the building.
"Alright, let's go." He said, and we strutted across the field to the barn at the other side. Sure enough, the truck had just been parked there. No speck of dust was on it.
"Well?" I said as soon as we arrived.
"Stay behind me," Damien said, charging into the building, and there, seated on a chair at the end of the room, was a man, tall like Damien, with curly hair and a bit more wrinkles than the face I had seen originally on the flash drive.
"Welcome, Damien. It's been a while." He smiled at him. I looked at Damien, and he had literal steam puffing out of his head. His hand shook on his gun, and I worried that he would pull the trigger before we got the chance to find out anything.
"How are you still alive?" Damien asked. "I watched you die. I held you in my hands and watched you die." He said, each word proceeded from his mouth with harmful caution.
"Well, you know what the churchies say, I was raised from the dead." Gabriel smiled. I knew this was a bad idea.
"Why did you ask to see me? Why now? After all these years." Damien asked.
"Well, first of all, I survived because I wanted to. I can't be killed so easily, Damien Paulo. I mean, like old times, right? We were unkillable. We joked about it all the time."
"Stop fucking with me and start talking!" Damien spat out angrily. His temper had risen with a vengeance.
