Chapter One Hundred and Eighteen

Chapter One Hundred and Eighteen
Ezra

It has been hectic the past six weeks, but Alana and I have finally moved into our new home. The previous owners wanted to sell quickly, and that is why it only took a matter of weeks between when we saw the house and when we moved in. It isn’t completely ready, but it is liveable. We purchased a stunning five-bedroom, three-bathroom, two-story sandstone mansion situated just half an hour’s drive from Edinburgh city centre, including not only the house but also the surrounding land. It wasn’t the type of place we originally planned, but we couldn’t find a house near a loch or body of water that we fell in love with. And the ones we liked were too far away from the city. Maybe someday in the future we will find what we are looking for, but for now, what we have is perfect.

Tonight will be our first night staying here. It has been a busy day for us, but I have made Alana take a bath and nap, not only because she needs it, but also because I want to surprise her by doing the baby’s room. I want it to be perfect for our son. We have everything we need, it is just a matter of decorating the room and arranging it how we want. Finlay will be here in just over three months, so we still have some time to prepare.

I have everything set out in Finlay’s room to start once Alana is in bed and asleep. Because if she isn’t sleeping, then she will come snooping. We picked a light blue color for the room and animal stencils for the walls. I am eager to start. At least this time, I don’t need to worry about the room sitting empty because of someone’s lies.

I come out of the nursery and close the door behind me. I want to check on Alana in the tub because she will need a hand to get out. I step into the upstairs bathroom, which is the larger of the two, and the tub is massive, with plenty of room to relax. Alana seems to have fallen asleep on me.

I crouch by the side of the bath. “Alana, bright eyes, you need to wake up and go to bed, it is safer,” I say softly.

Alana groans but opens her eyes. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

“I know, beautiful, so let’s get you out of the tub and into bed.”

Alana nods, and I help her out. I grab a towel and wrap it around her.

“I can wait to sleep later. There is still so much to do.”

“We have done enough today. You have done enough today. Everything else can wait because I don’t want you overdoing it. You and Finlay need to rest,” I insist.

Alana rolls her eyes at me. “I feel like all I do is rest,” she complains.

“Really? I would say it is the opposite. You don’t rest enough.”

“I am pregnant, not ill! I can do things.” She huffs and glares at me.

I nod and smile. I have learned when to keep my mouth shut recently so I don’t set her off or upset her. She mutters under her breath but doesn’t say much else. She changes into a pair of my joggers and a tee before climbing into bed.

Alana suddenly giggles. “Finlay agrees with me, we don’t need to rest right now.”

I turn to face her. “Kicking?”

Alana has felt him kicking for a couple of weeks now, but she is the only one who can do so at the moment.

“Yes, harder than usual. Come here, you might be able to feel it.” Alana smiles.

I rush over and climb onto the bed. Alana lifts the tee, takes my hand and places it on her stomach. At first, I don’t feel anything, but after a moment, I do.

I smile brightly. “I can feel him kick,” I gush. It is such an incredible thing to experience. I become emotional as Finlay continues to kick.
Alana grins and rests her hands over mine. “I am glad you have finally decided to let Daddy share our moments.”

He kicks again, but a little harder this time. I have been desperate to be able to feel him kick, and now I can. It is even more amazing than I thought it would be. Everything about Alana and Finlay is amazing! He stops after a couple of minutes.

“Finlay has now decided it is time for him and Mommy to sleep.” I chuckle and boop Alana’s nose.

“Yes, boss,” sarcasm drips from her voice.

“Sleep, now, missus,” I exclaim.

Alana flips me off and rolls her eyes before she gets herself comfortable. I lean down and kiss her softly. “I love you. I will wake you up in a couple of hours. Shout if you need anything, sweetheart.”

“I love you too,” she replies.

I steal one last kiss before disappearing from our bedroom and heading for Finlay’s room to get to work. I don’t know if I will manage to get it all done today, but hopefully I can do most of it.
