Chapter 71 There is a time for every thing
Elara…
A call.
That’s all I needed to ruin my day, to ruin my life again, I’m not her I could not let her bleed her on the hospital bed, no matter how mad I am at both of them, I knew I would never forgive them, I got the call a little after five in the morning, I didn’t pick, until dad called three time.
The call sent me out of my fantasy world, I was a mess, he told me I needed to get to the hospital as soon as soon as I can, mom has a rare blood type and I am the only one that has her blood, there was non in the blood bank, he won’t have called me if he didn’t need me, it didn’t matter.
Right now I stood in the middle of the hallway, my body felt weak, I was supposed to lay down but I didn’t listen to the doctors and dad was yelling, as much as he wanted to help, he can’t, she is family and we all know the rule when it comes to that.
Everyone was up and around.
When I got the call, I had no intention of telling anyone, I didn’t even think the accident was serious until I got here, I imagined I will slipped in and out of the house without anyone knowing but I made a mistake, the glass broke, everyone woke up and I was a mess.
Yes I was halfway through finding my passport when I got the call, my room was a mess and while packing, I accidentally packed my passport in one of the boxes
A rookie mistake.
Clara’s parents didn’t care if it was just a minor accident, they needed to be there for me and when I got here, I found out.
She has five broke ribs, her jaw is broken, she has something attached to her back, and they need a surgery, she could never walk again, she may not even survive it because the pole went deep through her coming out from the other side.
It was reckless driving, not from her side, from the driver’s side, the man stood by the end of the room, crying, knowing he could be responsible for the death of a person, a human being, he was not drunk, he was not even on anything, he was transporting some poles to the construction side along with other items.
He sworn he didn’t drive and text, he sworn he was paying attention and mom was the one that distracted him, but we can’t ask her, can we? I know my mother, she is a gentle driver unless she is mad, unless she is yelling at someone on the phone yet I am not about to play the blame games
It doesn’t matter who did it, it doesn’t matter how it happened, I need her to be alive, I need to tell her to her face, I am leaving and never coming back, I need to tell her I never truly hated her, I loved her and right now I still do.
“What are the cops doing then?” Dad yelled.
“They can’t arrest him, he is not on drugs like you said. He got tested, or do you have a theory about how he is able to get away with that too, dad please neither of us want to hear you yell.”I breathed, “and he feels bad, they are going over the footage, we will find out.”
“Of course we will, if it were up to you, you won’t care if she is dead or alive, you never loved her, and she cared for you, she carried you for nine fucking months.”
Fuck.
My eyes were swollen, my chest was filled with pain, I already felt so much guilt, if she dies, I won’t be able to handle it, I need her to be alive so I can fight with her, so we can make up in some years when we both let go of the anger, she can’t die on me, especially not after our last conversation.
“That’s enough Mr. Quinn, we are two seconds away from getting kicked out of the hospital and they all respect you to say anything, you and I both know that respect will last forever, come on.” Clara’s mom mumbled, she gave me a weak smile and I nodded as she took him away.
We are all on edge, I settled on the chair, my eyes filled with tears, I begged the nurse to truly tell me what was going on, turns out I am not ready to handle the truth, more tears streamed down my cheek falling to the ground.
“Elara.”
“I know, she is going to be okay.” I breathed out, I choked back on a sob when Clara mumbled a name. A name I have been yearning to hear when my eyes darted away from the ground and my feet made its way to Landon.
He wrapped his hand around me.
“She may die Landon, I don’t want her to die, she can’t do this, we are not done fighting, I’m not done being mad at her, I’m not done telling her how horrible she is? She can’t –“ tears prickled down my cheek
I felt a sharp pain radiating through my chest and my head throbbing with unexplainable pain.
“Nothing will happen to her, do you hear me? Your mom is a fighter, that’s the woman that yells at everyone in the hospital when she won’t get her way, you know one time mom had an appointment with her and I may have snooped around, I saw how she spoke to other patient, she motivated others, she will not go down without a fight.” He said to me.
He never told me that before
“Landon why don’t you take Elara out for breakfast, she-“
“I don’t need to eat.”
“Yes you do., I will stay here and I will call.” Clara mumbled and I nodded softly
“Come here baby.”
“You got food.” I whispered when we settled in his car, when his eyes met mine, I understood, it was for the road, the little trip before we get to the airport, I messed things up, we should be on our way to Vermont.
“Hey, you didn’t know this will happen, how are you?” He asked
“My mom-“
“Respectfully I don’t care for your mom Elara, I want to know how you are doing? She never cared for you. And no matter what she is your mom and I know you love her.” He said, I do, a lot, I miss when she yells at me, I miss when she will make me so mad I will wish she wasn’t my mom and now all I can wish for is to see her look at me.
What if she wakes up and she won’t want me there, what if she prefers if I am not even there, what if she asks dad to tell me go away, she could do that. I don’t care, I just want her to be fine, I need her to be okay.
I munched on the snack, I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I finished the whole pack, Landon helped me with a bottle of water
“I should have called, I, my phone it broke I guess, I was rushing out then it fell, how did you?”
“Clara called and explained everything.” Landon said and I nodded softly, she is a good friend, I am glad her a chance at this, at us.
“We can leave when I find out she is okay. I’m thinking of donating my blood, in case she needs it again even though dad is getting some transported from the city. It will take a while, I know I am pathetic and I can’t help but care. But I just need to know she is fine.”
It’s something I needed to do.
“I know.”
His face was saddened. He was fiddling with his fingers and his mind was not even here
“What’s wrong.” I asked
“Nothing.”
“Landon don’t lie to me.” I spoke and he chuckled, it sounded like a mockery.
“It’s not the time.” He breathed out .
“You can be mad right, it’s not a problem and I will not balme you for it. It’s okay to be angry, this is not how our plans should have worked, we had a whole thing and it got ruined, we can still fix this.” My hand brushed against his hand and he pulled away
Now I knew something had to be wrong
“I need you to answer a question for me, don’t lie Elara. Do you want to come to Vermont with me.” He asked
I paused
“I- don’t lie.”
“I went through your journal. I saw what you wrote. You lie to me. “ his voice softens, his jaw ticked before he closed his eyes and took in a breath. “Like I said it’s not the time.”
