Chapter 62 Done lying

Chapter 62 Done lying
Elara.
I’m done lying, to Landon, to my parents, to everyone else, I wanted to tell Landon about medical school and everything else, and my parents, I am done trying to lie and convince them, If I have to work twice as hard to get this scholarship, take a part time job and sell my arts online, I will.

After last night, I thought things through and I made up my mind, I thought of Zara too, a part of me wanted to apologize to her but last I heard, her mom is not letting anyone see her, it’s bad.
Fuck.

School passed in a blur, Dylan has finally gotten over me, at least that what I think, now I forgot he even exist, exam is in a month and some weeks, and so is graduation.

“My daughter is back.” Mom gritted through her teeth the moment I headed into the house, a wave of annoyance washed over me. “Don’t walk away from me Elara, this is not you, you don’t talk back, you don’t walk away, and you sure as hell don’t get to send the night at Clara’s home without me giving permission.”

“I’m sorry.” I breathed out.

“Is that all?” Dad asked, he came into view in a second, his eyes were softly on mine, how are they here, by this hour.

“I have an announcement to make.”

“No, you don’t get to speak, we are going to speak and you will listen, you disrespected your mother, you left the house, ignored her calls, you will be grounded for the rest of the school year and until graduation, we also took your art supplies, I don’t care if you are trying to get it out of your system before medical school, I would prefer if you start focusing on medical school.” Dad said and I nodded.

“Is that all?”

“Talk to me baby, what’s wrong with you? Why are you behaving like this?” Mom asked and I didn’t speak.

My lips paused against each other.

I felt a sharp pain radiating through my heart and I stared at her.

Here goes nothing.

“I’m not going to Vermont, I’m not going to medical school, I will graduate early because I want to, but I’m not going to become a doctor.”

The words slipped off my lips, for a moment, I had thought it was all a dream until my eyes met mom and a chuckle escaped her lips, she stared at me like it was a joke before she turned to Dad and he smiled.

“That’s a good joke Elara, I needed the humor.” Dad chuckled.

“I’m serious, why don’t you take me seriously? I’m not doing it, I’m not going mom, no matter what any of you say. I’m not doing it.”

Their laughter diminished, they stared at me for a second.

“Elara- no.” Mom mumbled placing her hand against Dad’s chest.

“No, I will not let you be like that Zara girl, I will not let you ruin your life, I will not let you make mistakes, you are just a kid, you know nothing, if not for us and what you think it’s controlling but it’s protection, you would have been like Zara or like Clara, words go around, I know what she does with that boy.”

“You will be a doctor and you will be a good one, you have my blood in you and no daughter of mine is going to be a dumb artist.” Dad yelled

I wish they had respect for artist, I’m not saying doctors are not important but fuck, we work hard too, it’s a real job.

“Go to your room.”

“No, not until we clear this up, you know what mom, I told you, don’t push me away to an extent I never have to speak to you, and I think you just did, you are never.”

A lump formed in my throat, my eyes filled with tears.

“You are never going to be on my side, do you think in five years, in ten years I will be happy, if I become what you want, did you have me to fulfill some sick dream of yours or because you wanted a daughter.” I yelled. “I am my own person and I have made the decision, I would work two jobs if I have to, at least I would be happy, I won’t be a danger to others, I could never be a doctor.” I yelled.

I paused

My cheek tinged with tears when I felt a sharp pain radiating through my cheek and my eyes caught Vivian and Patrick standing by the kitchen, the sound echoed when I turned to look at mom.

She hit me.

Again.

“Go to your fucking room.” She yelled.
I made my way toward the stairs.

“Hey mom Clara is not the only one having sex too, and if you must know, I have sex all the time, yet I turned out fine.” I mumbled.

It took me five minutes to get everything I needed, my clothes, my shoes and my bags, I headed into their room and just like I expected, they hid all my art supplies in their closet, which I took.

“Where do you think you are doing with those bags?” Mom asked, I was able to drag two bags and a little bag downstairs with me.

“What did your mom say to you, she said no upstairs. I am at my wit end Elara.” Dad yelled.

“I know and that’s why I am leaving, you may never see me again. After graduation, I’m leaving town. It doesn’t matter where I go, I will fulfill my dream and one day you will see me on tv, you will wish you didn’t treat me like this, you will wish you listened to me.” I breathed out.

“You think it’s easy to live in the world, you will be back in two days, no one will want you, I would love to see how you will pay your students loans for a career that will not take you anywhere, you want to leave, we won’t beg you, we have been nothing but great parents.”

My heart sank

“Patrick is better than anyone of you, Vivian is always there for me, you already know that, I loved you both.” I breathed out. “I cared for you more than I should have and what did I get in return, nothing. You could not love me for who I am? Mom you don’t even know me, you don’t know what I like, you don’t even care to know, what type of mom are you? You never once asked, if I was fine, and Dad. Your career is your kid and not me, it was never me.” I mumbled.

My eyes scanned the room, I spent all of my life here, this is the same living room, I watched my first movie, where I said my first words and now it didn’t matter.

“I’m graduating in some time. It would be the last time you see me, I have a feeling you will both be there, you would hate for anyone to know your daughter is not home.”

“You are hell bent on ruining my name.” Dad yelled and I didn’t speak

I made my way out of the house, leaving all the horrible memories behind.
—-
“Hey, can I stay the night?”

I stood in front of Clara’s home, I didn’t know where else to go, I wanted nothing but to speak to Landon. To go to him, but I can’t. I can’t ruin things when we are so close.

“Always.” She smiled.

Her mom didn’t have to ask, she always knew things were bad with my parents and she also knew all I ever wanted was to be an artist.
She made me dinner, she didn’t ask what happened? Not because she didn’t care, but because she knew I am not ready to talk about it, I texted Landon when I could and he promised to be here instantly.

Her mom, gave me a key to the guest room, she didn’t mind having me around.

“Stay as long as you want. And I mean it, months, years.” She smiled, “I always wanted a second daughter.” She said as she stared at me.

“Can you stay with me, you too Clara.” I smiled, they both settled beside me.

“When you make your pick.”

“I haven’t even won.”

“I like to think you have, when you make your pick, in a year, I will get the grades for the school too and I am sure Paul, Nathan would do anything for us to be all together again, imagine being in college with all three of us.”

“No drugs.” Her mom warned. “I’m serious.”

“Mom.” Clara called and I smiled.

“We won’t do drugs, I know I won’t and Clara will never but I can’t say the same for Nathan and Paul.” I breathed out and she chuckled.
Yes.
