Chapter 245 Someone in the Car
"Winter."
Thalia looked at the person standing in front of her, raising her eyebrows slightly with some confusion.
"What are you doing here?" The bar Evelyn chose tonight wasn't easy to get into. The membership fee was one thing, but the strict management was another—business tycoons didn't want to casually bring a woman in and get caught by their wives, then get beaten up.
"I... came with a friend." Winter didn't expect Thalia's attention to be on this.
For a moment, Winter stammered a bit.
Thalia didn't press further. She had a pretty good idea who this "friend" was.
She glanced at Evelyn.
Thalia and Evelyn returned to their seats. Evelyn was a bit confused: "You're really not going up there to deal with Emma?"
"The Wood family is already done for. Going up there to mess with Emma would just be a waste of our energy."
"You might think that way, but she doesn't. When your dad was in a coma, Emma didn't give you any trouble."
Thalia shrugged: "Whatever. When the wall falls, everyone pushes. Why should we dirty our own hands?"
As Winter left, her gaze lingered on Thalia with unspoken meaning. Thalia was someone who never liked meddling in other people's business.
Once the Wood family went bankrupt, the Hayes family would basically be done for too. Without the flow of benefits, the Hayes family couldn't last much longer.
"Do you think Quentin knows about his wife cheating?"
Normally, men care about this kind of thing. It's impossible for him not to care that his wife is seeing other men.
"Why don't you go ask him?"
Evelyn: ......"I'm going to the restroom."
In the second-floor private room, behind the floor-to-ceiling windows was a large wine cabinet. Several business bosses from Emerald City sat together chatting about work, their toasts mixed with some crude jokes.
"Isn't that Hayden's daughter?"
Someone glanced sideways and saw the person sitting at the first-floor bar.
"Let me see," someone behind walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, leaned forward and looked down, seeing Thalia with her long hair down, sitting lazily at the bar, scrolling through her phone while drinking.
"She's drinking alone?"
"She really is beautiful, truly the princess of Emerald City."
"Mr. Murphy, have you taken a liking to her?"
"Appreciating beautiful things is everyone's favorite pastime, isn't it?"
Roy Murphy ignored everyone's teasing and sat back down.
"Whoever can get Thalia to come up and have a drink with us, now that would be impressive," the person said with meaningful looks directed at Roy again. Roy remained unmoved and didn't take the bait. Everyone here was a shrewd businessman, not some naive person.
Hayden was dead, but Vanguard Innovations Group was still around, and Grace might protect Thalia even more than Hayden did. Offending Thalia would do him no good.
Play around all you want, but don't joke around with your career.
"Emma, aren't you pretty close with Thalia? After all, she almost became your brother's wife."
Emma was suddenly mentioned, and her heart jumped. After spending time with these old men, she knew what kind of games they played: "Don't tease me. Our family and the Smith family are enemies now."
Want to have a drink with Thalia? They should go ask her themselves if they're so capable!
Before long, Evelyn came back.
Evelyn and Thalia sat together chatting for a while. Scrutinizing gazes kept falling from upstairs. Just as Evelyn was about to look back, Thalia pressed down on her wrist: "Don't look."
"They've been staring at us forever. Those naked stares practically want to strip you naked."
Thalia called someone from behind the bar to settle the bill: "Let's go!"
..........
"Been watching for so long, it really is Ms. Smith. Didn't you go focus on your career? How do you still have time to come out drinking?"
"Probably to celebrate idiots like you getting a new lease on life!" Thalia tossed her phone into her bag and responded to Scarlett casually.
Everyone knew the Lewis family had put Scarlett under house arrest to avoid being dragged down by the Wood family, to prevent her from causing any embarrassing scenes.
"Who are you calling names?"
"I don't know, do you know who I'm talking about?" Thalia spoke sweetly, looking at Scarlett with some inexplicable meaning.
Thalia leaned forward toward her: "Ms. Lewis dares to come out playing rich lady with a secondhand bag?"
"What nonsense are you talking?"
Evelyn glanced at the bag in Scarlett's hand and laughed. Wasn't this the bag Thalia had bought for her using William's card?
A while back, Evelyn needed cash and didn't want to ask her family for money. She asked Thalia about it and sold this bag. She didn't expect this bag to now appear in Scarlett's hands. Wasn't this totally a secondhand bag?
She laughed: "Ms. Lewis, when you bought the bag, didn't the seller tell you who sold it?"
"For rare leather, the boutique keeps records of sales. Just check and you'll know."
Scarlett's face went pale, but she pretended to stay calm.
She had finally climbed to a relatively high position in the circle. She couldn't let Thalia destroy it like this.
"Forget it, I'm not in the mood to argue with you today. If you don't want me to curse at you, be smart and stay away."
Thalia waved her hand grandly, as if she was giving her a way out.
Thalia glanced at Evelyn, ready to leave.
Thalia's merciful attitude was like looking at an ant.
As Evelyn followed Thalia out, she didn't forget to sneer at Scarlett: "If you don't have the means, don't pretend to be rich. Acting like this, who are you trying to fool!"
Thalia walked to the parking lot. John was at the edge of the parking lot playing games on his phone. She patted his shoulder, signaling to leave.
The car was parked at the parking lot entrance. Thalia and John wound their way around to get there. John had just taken out his car key to unlock it when suddenly a car came in from the entrance. The headlights flickered for a moment, shining on the windshield of the Cullinan in the corner.
John reached out to shield Thalia.
"What's wrong?"
"I think there's someone in our car."
"Again?" Unequal distribution of assets, planning to kill and silence witnesses?
Can't she just live a peaceful life? Does it have to be so full of twists and turns?
"You hide first."
Thalia was smart and went around behind a pillar, watching John walk step by step to the car. He came to the windshield, took out his phone, turned on the flashlight and shone it inside. The person in the car realized they'd been discovered, pushed open the car door and got out. That person didn't tangle with John but headed straight for Thalia with a clear target.
Seeing things going south, Thalia turned and ran.
Do they think she's easy to bully?
Why does everyone come straight for her?
John chased after the person from behind. As Thalia ran frantically, she kicked off her high heels to save her life.
Thalia ran barefoot through the parking lot.
In her panic, Thalia dropped her bag, grabbed a fire extinguisher from the corner and sprayed wildly at the person.
John sprinted over and kicked the person down, punching them in the head and knocking them out cold.
