Chapter 98 Divorce You the Next Day?
"Pull over and get me an iced coffee."
Thalia was fuming and needed an outlet.
Seeing Isla driving past the artsy district of Emerald City, she suddenly craved coffee.
Isla parked the car, and Thalia, followed by Evelyn, got out and walked towards the café.
"Do you think William's using this as an excuse to get back at you for dumping him back then?" Evelyn asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.
"Probably," Thalia responded, her tone flat.
"If that's the case, what if he tricks you into marriage on the first day, and divorces you the next? Then tells everyone he dumped the purest actress in the industry?"
Thalia stopped in her tracks, her eyes widening. "What!"
If William dared to pull something like that, she'd make sure he paid for it. She'd hang him from a streetlight on Emerald City's main boulevard for everyone to see before she became famous.
Evelyn felt uneasy under Thalia's icy glare. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Nothing," Thalia took a deep breath.
"Isn't this Thalia? Still have time to buy coffee? Your dad's on his deathbed, and you're just chilling?"
They had just entered the café and hadn't even ordered when a chilly voice came from not far away.
Thalia didn't need to see to know it was Elowen.
She turned slowly and saw Elowen in a white blouse and black pencil skirt, sitting with a few office workers who looked surprised to see Thalia.
Elowen glanced at the women beside her, who were thrilled to see Thalia. "Let me introduce you to the purest actress in the entertainment industry, Emerald City's elite, Thalia."
"So, what do you think? Is she prettier in person than on TV?"
"Thalia is quite something! Her dad's critically ill, and here she is, flirting with men and then coming for coffee. What is it? Not enough energy for a relay race?"
Elowen had been following the news of Thalia chasing William. She wanted to see what Thalia was capable of.
"The Smith family's empire won't collapse overnight, will it? Are you already preparing for a seamless transition to your next rich husband? From elite socialite to wealthy wife?"
Thalia ignored Elowen's taunts and ordered three iced Americanos.
"Three?" The barista thought he misheard. "Aren't there just two of you?"
Thalia nodded. "Three."
Evelyn, seeing Thalia remain silent, was frustrated. "You're not going to say anything?"
"Didn't you see my fans nearby?"
Evelyn: ... "And you still care about your image at a time like this?"
Thalia paid, took the iced coffee from the barista, and walked towards Elowen, removing the lid from one cup.
Then, with a flick of her wrist, she poured the coffee over Elowen's head. The icy liquid ran down her face. "Since you know I'm the princess of Emerald City, you should be more restrained. What good does it do you to insult me in front of my fans? What, couldn't make it abroad and now want to rule here?"
"If it were Eleanor sitting here mocking me, I'd tolerate it. But you? A woman not even worthy of carrying Eleanor's shoes, daring to show off in front of me? What, afraid people don't know the Mitchell family abandoned you? Need me to tell you where your fiancé has been picking up women lately?"
"Thalia, you bitch."
Elowen shouted, trying to stand, but Thalia pushed her back into her seat.
As if that wasn't enough, Thalia glanced at the women nearby. "Your colleagues?"
"The Mitchell family's daughter needs to work? Did you fall out of favor with them?"
"Can't make it? Let me know, I still need an assistant. I'll reluctantly hire you."
"Thalia," Elowen was furious, grabbing a coffee cup to throw at Thalia, but Evelyn quickly restrained her.
No chance given.
Thalia watched Evelyn intervene, then casually took some napkins from the table to wipe her hands, exuding a nonchalant arrogance only a princess could have.
Evelyn chuckled. "Ms. Mitchell, she's not wrong. If the Mitchell family hadn't abandoned you, would they let you marry Raymond?"
"The man has slept with more women than you have handbags."
...
"Is that Thalia? So cool."
"Oh my god, I'm going to stan her."
"She's always been cool in the industry too. Many say she relies on her dad, but look at her work. Directors speak highly of her."
"Three months ago, rumors were her dad was dying. Did it affect her? She's released two dramas and four movies in three months, all hits."
"Even without her dad's support, she'd still be top-tier."
"That Ms. Mitchell is just mean, cursing her dad and mocking her."
The whispers grew louder around them.
Elowen's face turned sour.
Thalia threw the used napkins into Elowen's coffee cup and sneered. "Next time you see me, stay away."
"I have a bad temper. Even if the Smith family goes bankrupt, if you mess with me, I'll still fight back."
...
Elowen trembled with anger as Thalia left.
She grabbed her bag and left, her mood ruined, abandoning her plans to dine with colleagues on her first day at work.
Back home, the servants were tidying up.
The family had just moved back from abroad to the Mitchell villa, and the house was still being organized.
For a week, items had been arriving from overseas.
Eleanor came down from her study and saw Elowen returning angrily, noticing the coffee stains on her clothes. "What happened to you?"
Elowen was too furious to speak and stormed into her room.
Eleanor followed her. As soon as she opened the door, she heard Elowen fuming. "I ran into Thalia."
"She poured coffee on you?"
"Yes."
"That bitch," Elowen threw her bag onto the bed in rage.
"Don't provoke her," Eleanor advised. Thalia wasn't someone to mess with.
The princess of Emerald City wasn't a title given lightly.
Hayden had spoiled Thalia for years, and recently, Eleanor had learned from her business contacts that Thalia controlled most of the Smith family's assets.
She was the real power behind the scenes.
Her pure actress image was just a cover.
"What do you mean? You think I provoked her?"
Elowen was even angrier at Eleanor's words.
She had always been Eleanor's sidekick, both abroad and now back home.
Being bullied and then lectured?
Where did Eleanor get this superiority?
"I didn't mean that."
"Then what did you mean?"
