Chapter 280 Almost Couldn't Keep Up the Act, Right?
Was this something she should be seeing?
These two were just having sex right there in the living room, out in the open. Didn't they have any sense of discretion?
No sense of crisis at all?
When Amara came downstairs and saw this scene, she couldn't help but curse out loud.
Fallon was already used to it, but Amara startled her so badly that she dropped the tray she was holding.
Thalia instinctively pushed William away and awkwardly wiped her face.
"Get out here." The man's voice rang out, laced with anger.
Amara shrank back her neck. The person who had just hidden to the side stuck her neck out to look at him and gave an awkward laugh. "William, I didn't mean to. You guys can pretend I don't exist. I can make myself invisible."
William was speechless.
Thalia's face flushed red as she kicked William's thigh.
The man's expression darkened even more. "Get out here."
Amara made a sound of acknowledgment and came out with her neck still scrunched up.
"Harper said she arranged several blind dates for you recently and you turned them all down!" William snapped.
"My mom pressuring me is one thing, but you too? Do humans exist on this earth just to get married? Can't I have my own dreams and goals? Can't I just not get married?"
"Stop bothering me and I won't pressure you." Amara was either hiding at the hospital or hanging around Thalia these days. To avoid blind dates, she wasn't even going home. William couldn't catch her, so he could only come here to work on her attitude.
It was clearly her problem alone, yet she was dragging everyone else into the trouble.
"I'm not here to see you anyway," Amara muttered. "Besides, nobody thinks marriage is great. If you don't believe me, ask Thalia if marriage is good or not."
Thalia was speechless.
Was there something wrong with Amara's brain? Dragging her into this right in front of William?
William followed Amara's lead and turned his gaze to Thalia.
Cold sweat beads climbed up her back layer by layer.
Thalia felt stifled. "It's pretty good?"
"Good is good, not good is not good. What's with that tone?" Amara said.
"Time reveals a person's true nature. How long has it even been? If you want to use our short marriage as a reference for your own, I'd advise you to give up. There's nothing to learn from it."
"Marriage has never been about how long it lasts. Look at my dad - my mom has been with him longer than any other woman in his life, but she's never gotten his love. Sure, all these years she could spend money freely, live in mansions, and own countless luxury cars, but those are all just material things.
"Everyone has different views on marriage, different requirements for marriage. If you want to learn from others' experiences, you're already unhappy." Thalia was quite persuasive when she got going, making point after point.
If William didn't know what she was really like, he'd probably be fooled just like that idiot Amara.
A vague approach to life is the way to live well, William thought casually as he picked up his glass for a sip of water.
Amara looked at Thalia like she was looking at an idol, her clear but foolish eyes starting to sparkle with stars.
"Thalia, everyone says you're just a pretty face."
Thalia thought helplessly, 'Well, you don't have to tell me that! Silly girl.'
"But in my opinion, you're a hundred, a thousand times better than those people who say that about you. Otherwise, how could you have such insights about life?" Hearing that, Thalia and William both fell silent.
Amara was about to say something else when her phone rang. It was a call from the hospital's emergency department. As soon as she answered, whoever was on the other end said something, and Amara gestured to William that she had to go and left.
As soon as she was gone, a heavy sigh echoed through the living room.
William poured Thalia a glass of water, his tone unhurried. "Almost couldn't keep up the act, could you?"
"Fuck off."
........
"Mr. Lowe hasn't come looking for you lately. Has he let you off the hook?" Linda noticed that Nora had been in good spirits recently, and after asking around, learned it was because the pressure was gone.
Work pressure and pressure from rich people were completely different. The former could still be dealt with somehow, but the latter was impossible - when someone above you was bearing down on you, it was suffocating.
"I guess so." They probably figured out that she really had no influence over William.
"Good that he's let it go." Linda said. "The show finished filming recently. For promotion, the production team set up a livestream, probably next week. Get ready to join."
"What livestream?" Nora asked.
"A lifestyle variety show. Several of the main cast members will be there."
"Thalia's going too?"
"Yeah, and Gregory too."
Nora didn't really want to participate, but she had no choice. Promotion was part of the job.
Nora asked, "What's the main content?"
"Living together for a few days, testing chemistry and stuff like that."
"Alright then."
.........
A week later, Thalia could finally leave the house. Before going out, she had Amara do a blood test to make sure those substances were no longer in her system before she dared to go out.
"Where have you been these past few days?"
"It's complicated." Thalia glanced at Evelyn, and the two linked arms and entered a restaurant.
"Complicated?"
"If it's not convenient to say, then don't. Let's eat first."
Talking too much about entertainment industry matters could cause trouble. The two arrived late and there were no seats left. Too lazy to wait in line again, they just sat at the bar.
"Isn't this Ms. Smith? You're eating here too?" Rainey asked.
Thalia glanced at Evelyn, who shrugged. This wasn't her arrangement.
Could it be a coincidence?
That didn't seem right. Rainey had been trying to meet with Thalia without success. How did they just happen to run into each other today? Could it really be fate?
When Rainey saw Thalia, he thought to himself that he'd been asking around everywhere trying to find Thalia without success, yet today he ran into her here. Talk about effortless. It seemed he should eat out with young people more often - better chances of running into them.
"Ms. Smith, couldn't get a private room? I'm right next door. Would you like to dine together?" Rainey invited.
Thalia felt the situation was a bit awkward. If she didn't go, Rainey, who had been searching everywhere for her, definitely wouldn't give up this hard-won opportunity.
If he sat nearby instead, that would be even more awkward.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
In the private room, there was another person - Rainey's daughter. She looked like a high school student, not very old, still wearing her school uniform.
"This is my daughter. Lucky she dragged me here today, saying she wanted to check this place out, or I wouldn't have had the chance to run into you." Rainey introduced.
The girl was a fan of Thalia's. As soon as she saw Thalia, she dug through her bag for paper and pen, wanting an autograph.
Thalia good-naturedly agreed.
