19 - Valor's Greatest Dream

VALOR’S POV.

“He’s such a fool!” Lord Thomas burst into laughter as he mocked that fool named Trevor.

I couldn’t believe either, that he was easy to play around with! I had high expectations from him, but his desperation led him nowhere.

“Cheers, young man. One more step, and I will make sure he’s gone from my daughter’s life. Once that happens, you will become my new and only son-in-law.”

My heart stopped beating, wondering if it was true or a manipulation.

For the longest time, I wanted to marry Therese and have children with her. But Trevor ruined my plans and everything. He impregnated my mate, causing a lot of trouble in our pack.

Trevor’s greatest mistake forced Lord Thomas to hate his existence. He believed Trevor ruined his daughter’s life, and whatever he does means nothing to him anymore.

At this moment, Lord Thomas sat in front of me. His facial expression changed. Telling me that he was serious about talking about something important.

He sighed and set aside the empty glass. “Do you know why I summoned you, young man?”

I had no idea what was going on. But to steal Therese from that jerk, I am willing to do anything.

“Forgive me, my lord. But I don’t know why you summoned me at this hour. I thought we were here to celebrate that fool’s stupidity!”

Silence.

It lasted for a few seconds until he spoke again.

“I wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible. The longer he stays, the more it’s hard for us to take them apart.”

I saw bitterness and determination in Lord Thomas’ eyes. It was burning with hatred, and he wanted to make his plans come true.

To know every detail of his plans, I acted like a fool who didn’t know anything. I took a deep breath and tried to stutter.

“What… what do… do you mean, my lord?”

Without hesitation, he looked at me and didn’t blink for a second.

He said, “I want you to get rid of Therese’s mate. It doesn’t matter how, but I want it to happen before the next full moon.”

I was shocked. I didn’t imagine hatred would force him to take away Therese’s mate behind her back.

I thought Lord Thomas accepted Trevor after everything he did. But everything was a lie. He pretended that he liked him in front of the entire pack to fool Trevor.

“Are you sure about this, my lord? Therese will do anything once she discovers our plans!”

Like a flash of lightning, darkness embraced the king’s aura. He didn’t know what he was talking about or the consequences of our plans.

“I don’t care about her feelings anymore! She brought so much trouble into this pack, and I will never let her live a happy and peaceful life! If I have to take that man away from her, I will do it and be your father-in-law! Do you understand?”

I was speechless. I couldn’t utter a single word after hearing such cruelty from our king.

However, deep within my system, I wanted to laugh as loud as I could. I have waited for a very long time to be Therese’s mate. In a few days, my greatest dream will come true.

“Do you understand, young man?”

To end our conversation, I titled my head as an answer.

Then a wide smile flaunted on his lips, showing how satisfied and excited he was.

Before the night ends, Riger arrives out of nowhere. He was with Jeda, if I wasn’t mistaken, wondering why she would come to the palace late at night.

“My lord, I have brought the servant you wanted to speak with.” Riger bowed his head.

In an instant, loud laughter echoed around. Then Lord Thomas commanded the servant to walk closer to him and have a seat first.

“Come and have a seat.”

As I watched her walk toward us, I noticed how nervous she was. Jeda played with her fingers, trying to distract herself.

“Don’t be too nervous, young lady. Your king would never hurt you if you would tell me everything you know. It's interesting, isn’t it?”

“I shall obey you, my lord,” Jeda responded, which made the king happy.

To hear everything, I sat in the corner with a glass of wine. It seemed interesting to witness, as I didn’t want to lose the opportunity.

Right then, Lord Thomas faced Jeda with his usual, pleasing face. There were no signs of danger that somehow fooled the poor servant.

“Are you aware of why I summoned you?”

“I don’t know, my lord,” Jeda replied.

She tried to calm down, but her hands and knees were shaking. She couldn’t even look straight into the king’s eyes, making things awkward.

However, Lord Thomas was desperate. He wanted to gather information about Therese and Trevor’s marriage. He wanted to hear such bad news to start with our plans as much as possible.

“Well, I summoned you to ask what happened between the young lady and her mate. Did they have a fight or something like an argument?”

Jeda took a deep breath.

Then she looked at Lord Thomas and smiled.

“I apologize, my lord. But nothing happened between the young lady and Lord Trevor. Instead, they were laughing about something.”

Jeda’s response didn’t make any sense at all.

We were expecting to hear a terrible argument rather than get upset.

Upon hearing it, Lord Thomas lost control of his emotions. He grabbed the empty glass and threw it to the floor, which surprised the poor servant.

“Goddamn it!” He sighed. “I thought it was a great opportunity to ruin their relationship!”

While the king was filled with anger, I remained calm and watched Jeda. I knew she was lying through her eyes and actions.

But I had no proof to prove it. Being careless might change the king’s decision, which might ruin my plans. If I had to be deaf and blind, I would do it to be Therese’s mate.

However, Lord Thomas didn’t want to give up. Instead of letting the servant go, he gave her a mission that would change her life forever.

He said, “From now on, you will tell everything to me! And don’t you dare lie to me, young lady, if you want to live a long life. Do you understand?”

Like a weak prey, Jeda tilted her head as an answer. She looked nervous and confused. Yet she had enough strength to convince the king that she was willing to be a spy and a traitor.

“I know this is not the right thing to do, but I am loyal to you, my lord. If I have to betray the young lady to prove my loyalty to you. I will do it with all my heart.” Jeda spoke and shed tears before the king.

Lord Thomas’ face brightened as soon as he heard it. He then tilted his head and told Riger to accompany the servant back home.

With a mischievous smile on his lips, he stared at me.

“Your greatest dream is yet to come. You will be my daughter’s mate in the next full moon.” Lord Thomas mumbled into the cold, thin air.
