Jovannie attacked Luke by pinching him on his arm as she could do nothing against his stubbornness. He would always look out for her and shelter her from anything as long as it was in his power.

"Thank you, Luke. It must have been rough for you."

"Silly girl, it's not rough at all. I am doing this because I want to be by your side." He gave a simple reply.

It was towards evening when they finally reached the first village according to their schedule.

The first thing that they needed to do was to find a place to stay that night before having a full day's rest the next day.

It was arranged for the medical team to stay in a local health center.

Originally, they were planning to make their beds on the floor or to set up tents around the area. However, to their surprise, when they entered the health center, the beds there were all brand-new. Although they did not look expensive, they were comfortable enough to sleep in.

There were also some newly bought daily necessities.

Because of the limited rooms available in the small space, the director of the health center had sent a few people to stay in some villagers' houses nearby, saying that everything had been arranged for. This way, there would be enough rooms for the girls in the health center.

However, it meant that Jovannie and Luke were not going to be sleeping in the same room, as the girls had a different sleeping arrangement from the boys.

As if he had known beforehand, Luke had already made up his mind to set up a tent next to the health center. This way he could be near Jovannie and keep a close eye on her. Hence, he did not need to sleep at one of the villagers' houses.

In the middle of the night, some girls went to the other room to sleep with their friends. Before they left, they told Jovannie she could ask Luke to come in to accompany her.

After getting along with Jovannie for some time, they knew that she was a decent person. Plus she brought snacks and shared them with everyone, so they wanted to create an opportunity for the couple to spend time together.

In addition, they also heard from the director of the health center that a group of people came to refurbish the center. When he asked the people who sent them there, they said they were hired by someone called Mr. Miller, meaning they were not from the government.

How could they not understand by now?

Not only was Luke rolling in money, but he also treated his girlfriend well too, and he had a kind heart, leaving a deeper impression of him in their minds.

While Jovannie was feeling apologetic about their offer, they insisted on leaving the room, saying that they were going to have a party next door and would not come back for anything.

With that, she had to take up their offer since they were willing and happy to do so, and she was touched by it.

In the end, Luke ended up in the same room as Jovannie.

Slipping into his embrace, she felt safe and sound.

No matter where she was or what kind of surrounding she was in, she felt that she could feel the same as long as he was by her side.

"Sleep, baby girl."

"Okay."

The next morning, breakfast had been prepared when they woke up.

Some ingredients were homegrown by the villagers themselves while some were brought here in the second bus.

In fact, not only were there bodyguards on the second bus, but the chef who always cooked for Luke and Jovannie also tagged along.

This was because Luke was worried that Jovannie could not tolerate food that she was not used to, so he brought their chef with them.

At first, she did not know about this arrangement. As soon as she had gotten a bite of the breakfast, she thought she was hallucinating.

It was such a familiar taste...

Wasn't this the breakfast she ate every morning?

There was no doubt it was!

Nonetheless, she knew that this way his way of caring for her, and he wanted to give her the best. With that in mind, she sat through breakfast quietly as she enjoyed the food.

As for the others, they were all singing praises to the person who made the food, and they ate their fill.

Everyone thought that they could shed a few pounds during their stay here. Who would have known that they could enjoy such delicacies? It looked like they would gain some instead of lose some after a month.

After breakfast, the event officially started.

The village chief had gathered a few villagers who were seeking medical treatment, but only around eight of them turned up.

It was explained to them by the village chief and the director that most of the locals did not take their illnesses seriously. Only when they were experiencing serious headaches or body aches would they come over to ask for some medications. Most of them rather use their time working on their farms, so only a few elderlies that had time to spare came.

To the villagers, farming was far more important than such superficial events, and they heeded no attention to them.

The teacher in charge was used to such situation as it happened quite often in the past, so he was not in a panic. The only way to such situation was to give treatment to those who came. After they were given their medications, he would give explain to them about basic hygiene and medical knowledge while giving them a booklet on the topic. He also took the time to talk to them and get to know them.

Before their visit, he had personally come over to the village to conduct an investigation, so he knew who were the ones that were sick or had family members who were sick. If he went up and persuaded them, he would not believe he could not get them to seek for treatment.

On the other hand, Jovannie was tasked to talk to the villagers. Through conversation, she would have to explain some basic medical knowledge, such as how they could ensure that their water was safe for drinking.

In fact, this was something that she felt that everyone in the city knew, and it was something that every one should be aware of. However, things were not like she thought it was. The younger generations of the village had left for the city to work, leaving only the elders who might or might not have left the village even once. Patience was greatly needed when it came to explaining to them as they held firmly to their beliefs.

In her heart, she was aware that despite her detailed explanation, some villagers would not take her words seriously.

In addition, she would bring up the topic of contraceptives to the female villages and how contraceptives could prevent certain diseases. As for the male villages, she left them in the hands of the male participants.

In the beginning, she would turn red and feel awkward as soon as she mentioned the topic of contraceptives, and the villages would tease her for it. They were laughing and joking as they pointed at Luke, who was beside her.

Their words made her blush as they were very candid. Although she had not conversed a good deal with Luke, the look in his eyes was not something to be missed.

In the midst of the laughter, she regained her composure and was able to speak fluent, despite stuttering in the very beginning.

Multiple times, she was asked about her personal life, like how old she was, was she married, and how long had she been in a relationship.

Occasionally, they would praise Luke for his good looks too.

However, it did not bother her. Instead, she felt amused by the situation she was in.

Sometimes she had to brush their questions off with a smile, and sometimes he would chip in to speak for her, even if he was known to be a man of few words.
