What Jovannie did not tell Luke was that she had looked up previous information on the volunteering events before deciding to join.
She learned that there were more places that needed people's help.
Therefore, she wanted so much to go, and to learn about what these people who were in need were going through.
She refused to be a sheltered person who was ignorant to the world.
If it were not for the protection from Luke and his family, perhaps she would not be in such a good place in life, making her more fortunate than most people.
To her, there were more things she could do, other than treating people with kindness.
Since she wanted to participate in charitable campaigns and it just so happened she had the chance and power to do so, so why not try to help out since it was within her ability?
In recent years, she had often partaken in various charitable campaigns along with her classmates. Every time she did, Luke would support her from behind, but he was always worried that she would exhaust herself.
After a moment of silence, he came to an agreement. "Okay, but I'll go with you this time."
"Don't you have work?"
"It's fine. I will deal with my work in advance. We can take this as a trip together."
However, it made her hesitant seeing that he was putting himself in her shoes as she wanted to do the same for him too.
A few days later, Jovannie and Luke set off to their destination, which was a cluster of villages in the mountains.
This event was a month long, and they planned to visit six villages around the same area within one month, with the purpose of distributing medicines and educating the villagers on basic medical knowledge.
With the company of two local officers from the village, there was an amount of 17 participants. Two of them were teachers in charge and seven of them were medical school students. Even though the rest of the students being in different schools, they were given a short course on basic medical knowledge before.
Because of the large number of people, the journey from the city area to the mountains was mainly by bus, and it was the same for Luke too.
Given Jovannie and Luke's seating on the bus, it was easy for him to wrap his arms around her. It was intimate yet protective at the same time. This way, she would be able to rest comfortably throughout their journey to the mountains.
Unlike her, he would be able to handle the more-than-ten hour-long journey on the bumpy roads. After all, he was most worried that she would not be used to it, so he wanted to protect her along the way.
And behind the bus they were in was another bus.
However, they were not a part of the volunteers to this event. Instead, they were Luke's men who would act as the medical team's bodyguards for this trip.
For safety reasons, the medical team did not oppose Luke's men from following them since it was better to have more people with them.
Besides, he was the main sponsor of the medical supplies in this event, and he would continue to do so in the future, so they could only turn a blind eye to the absurdity of the turns of events.
The moment Jovannie woke up, she heard Luke's soothing voice whispering into her ear.
"Are you awake? Do you want some water?"
Hearing his voice, she nodded.
The surrounding people were all green with envy seeing how Luke, who seemed like a ruthless man, coaxing Jovannie in a gentle tone. However, they were used to the two being lovey-dovey in front of them, and the feeling of envy was not as strong as it used to be.
"Luke, aren't you going to rest?" she asked.
"I did." In fact, Luke had not even rested one bit as he did not need to rest. Due to his high-intensity training, he could stay up for a few days and still maintain a clear consciousness.
