Chapter 47 The first doubt

Chapter 47 The first doubt
Antonella Erickson - POV

“Are you okay?” Maximus asked me when I looked up from my plate.

“Yes.” I answered but he didn't look satisfied. He placed his fork in the the table and and gently placed his hand on mine.

“You look tense, Ella.” Maximus pointed out when I let out a sigh and when my perfectly calm demeanor slipped.

“Lia has been on edge since yesterday, Maximus. We feel like something bad is going to happen.” I told him when he shook his head and a reassuring smile appeared on his face.

“You are worried about Elijah?” he asked me when I nodded my head.

“He is not the person to give up easily, and ever since he walked out of this pack after the mating ceremony, I haven't been able to sleep in peace.” I told him when he nodded his head.

“I thought he would plan a kidnapping as soon as he left since he did suspect that you are not Luna Evangeline.” Maximus told me. “But I have been monitoring his borders, and he has seemed to look for you elsewhere.”

“Elsewhere?” I asked him confusedly when he nodded his head.

“Arthur found his warriors looking for you in the northern packs.” Maximus reassured me, but deep down I had this bizarre feeling that something was going to terribly go wrong today. “Arthur told me that you are going to attend a mating ceremony with Rachel. I think you should go there. I will take care of the rest.” Maximus reassured me when I nodded my head. “Before you go, could you please eat your food?”

“I am not hungry, Maximus.” I said.

“At least eat the sausages," he insisted when I nodded my head. I picked up my fork and ate my food, and just as I was about to finish, I heard soft footsteps walk into the house, and soon Rachel appeared in the dining room wearing a ruby red body-con dress.

“Good morning, Maximus," she greeted him with a smile on her face. “Good morning, Evangeline. Are you ready to go?” She asked me when I nodded my head.

I wiped my mouth with the napkin and hopped up from my chair. “I will meet you for lunch?” I asked Maximus.

“I will be stuck in a few meetings until tea, Evangeline. Why don't you have lunch with Rachel if it is okay with her?” Maximus asked.

“Of course, I would be happy to have you here.” Rachel said when I walked over to Maximus and leaned towards him.

“I will see you soon.” I whispered and placed a chaste kiss on his cheek, but when I was about to pull back, Maximus wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him before placing his lips on mine.

A gasp left my mouth at the contact when I felt small sparks travel down my body while he deepened the kiss. My heart raced when I leaned in a little more and deepened the kiss. “Ahem.” I was abruptly broken out of the kiss when I heard someone clear their throat, and I quickly pulled away.

“We are getting late for the mating ceremony, Luna.” Rachel pointed out when my cheeks grew warm.

“I will see you later.” I told him and rushed out of there. Where is the mating ceremony taking place?” I asked Rachel as we walked out of the house. The ground was damp due to the rain that poured down last night while the air was a little chilly.

“At the church since it doesn't look like the perfect day to have a wedding outside.” Rachel commented, and I agreed. It was a fifteen-minute walk, and as I got closer to the church, I began to see that the lawn was crowded with guests waiting to go in.

“Looks like neither the bride nor the groom has arrived yet.” Rachel said as we got closer.

“Luna Rachel!” I heard a woman exclaim, which made me a little uncomfortable as she walked towards us. “Thank you so much for coming.” She said as she pulled Rachel in for a hug.

“It’s my duty, Mrs. Brown.” Rachel said. “And I think it would be more appropriate if you call me Miss. Edward’s since I am not your Luna.” Rachel gently explained but the woman looked like she didn’t care.

“How could we accept a rogue as our Luna, Miss. Edward? Who knows what rank she belongs to.” The woman said in disgusted when I felt my heart sink to the pit of my stomach.

“Mrs. Browns, please.” Rachel said in a warning tone when she finally shut up. “I am so sorry, Evangeline.” Rachel apologized when a forced smile appeared on my face.

“That’s all right," I told her.

“Let’s go in.” Rachel said and I nodded my head. As we walked most of the people got up to greet us and while some were hostile towards me most of the pack members were very welcoming. Rachel and i sat at the very front and soon the ceremony began.

“The couple looked so cute together, isn’t it?” Rachel asked me as we walked out of the church with the rest of the wedding procession.

“They did.” I said.

“Shall we go to eat? I told Cynthia that I will be bringing you for lunch as well.” Rachel said when I shook my head.

“I am having a headache. I think I will just go back home and rest, Rachel. Thank you for accompanying me today.” I told her.

“Is it because of what Mrs. Brown said earlier?” Rachel asked me, but I shook my head.

“I wasn’t offended by her word. Not everyone would be keen on accepting a complete stranger as their Luna.” I told her with a smile on my face. “I will see you later.” I told her when she nodded her head.

As I arrived back home I realized that Maximus was still home so I made my way to his office and lightly knocked on the door. “Come in.” He called when I opened the door and walked inside.

“Maximus, is everything okay?” I asked him when I saw the grave look on his face.

“Elijah will be coming here today.
