Chapter 34 Coming back again

Chapter 34 Coming back again
Madison Smith - POV

I looked at my outfit in the mirror. My brown hair was now a blonde color, which was dirty and tangled up and had dried leaves scattered as if I had been sleeping on the ground for weeks. My face was also covered in dirt with a few scars, and the blue sundress I wore was torn in places and looked like it had been washed weeks ago.

“We look like a homeless person," Freya commented.

“I think that is the look we are looking for. We can't simply walk in looking like we had been living the best days of our lives.” I retorted.

“I guess you are right," Freya said as she retreated to the back of my head. I walked to my bed and tabbed the tattered old bag that I bought from a thrift store and walked out of my room. As I arrived at the reception, the woman looked at me from head to toe in suspicion before she took out her book.

“Eighty dollars," she said in a monotone when I took out the cash and placed it on the desk along with the room keys and walked out.

“How are we going to get to the pack?” Freya asked me.

“We might have to hitch a ride. There is no point in running in our wolf form. We will simply get caught.” I told her as I walked to the streets and looked around. It wasn't easy to hitch a ride, but finally an elderly couple who were going in that direction helped me.

I didn't realize how far I was from Elijah’s pack when I finally arrived at the borders six hours later. “Are you sure you want us to drop you off in here, kid?” The woman asked me worriedly as she looked around the dense forest. Not a soul was in sight and for the human eye this would look like the perfect place for a young girl to get raped and killed.

“Yes, thank you, ma'am. My mother’s house is just around the corner.” I told her when she nodded her head, and soon they drove off.

I looked at the forest when I started walking towards the pack. It wasn't easy getting to the pack in your human form, but after two hours of walking, I finally reached the gates. My dress was drenched in sweat, and my heart kept racing when I stopped.

“Who are you?” a warrior asked me as he walked out of the gates.

“I am seeking refuge, Sir. I am rogue. My parents died in a rogue attack a month ago, and ever since then I have been on the move looking to join a pack.” I told him my fabricated lie, making sure my eyes watered.

“Were you a rogue all your life?” he asked me when I shook my head. I opened my bag and took out the fake documents the woman prepared for me and handed them over to him. He took it with suspicion and began reading it.

"What's going on, dude?” Another warrior walked towards us.

“She is here looking for refuge. The documents look legit," the warrior told him as he handed over my papers.

“Let me show this to beta Gordon and verify it first," the warrior said when the first one nodded his head. He took my documents and walked back into the pack while we stood outside.

"Didn't any other packs take you in when your parents died?” He asked me when I shook my head.

“Some packs were willing to take me in, but they said that they had no jobs to offer, so I would have to go to the human town to find work. And I know that would never be safe. While some of them told me that they were not taking in any more new admissions." I told him when he nodded his head.

Thirty minutes later I saw the warrior coming back when he handed my documents. “Beta Gordon informed me that you are granted asylum in this pack. But you need to work to earn your place in here.”

“Thank you so much, Sir. I would do anything as long as I could live under the protection of a pack.” I beamed in excitement, hoping that they believed my act.

“Okay, let's go. I will show you your new home," he told me when I nodded my head and followed him inside the pack. As we walked past the pack town, the warrior explained to me about the history of this pack, and I had to act excited until we came to a stop in front of a small six-story building.

“This is Omega’s quarters. Beta Gordon has assigned you to work as a cleaner at the hospital.” The warrior informed me as he handed over a few papers regarding my job description and a cleaner’s ID.

“Thank you so much,” I told him when he died out a brass key and placed it on my palm.

“This is the key to your room. The room number is engraved on the key. And you are to start working at eight am tomorrow. I will ask an omega to get your uniform.”

“Sure.” I told him when he left me alone and walked back towards the pack gates.

Antonella Erickson - POV

A soft smile appeared on Maximus’s face, which made me frown. “What?” I whispered.

“The effect of the potion has faded away," he pointed out when I turned around and looked at myself in the mirror.

“I guess I will head to bed then.” I told him, and when I was about to leave, he grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him. “Maximus, what are you doing?” I asked him as my heart skipped a beat. An emotion I have never seen before clouded his eyes as he looked deep into me.

“If you think it is wrong. You can push me away and even hit me. I will not say anything.”

“What are you…” Before I could continue he pulled me close to his body and placed his lips on mine. This was not the first time we kissed, but this was the first time that we kissed knowing who we were.

The kiss was soft, letting me know that I could pull back. I tried to feel the guilt, but all I felt was a desire to kiss him back. “Our connection with Elijah broke a long time ago, Ella. We are not cheating on him.” Lia said, and that was all the reassurance I needed as I wrapped my hands around his neck and kissed him back with passion.
