Chapter 191 Anonymous Email

Chapter 191 Anonymous Email

Killian had always been exceptionally efficient at work. After a week of intense high-pressure work, the project crisis was completely under control, leaving only some loose ends to tie up.

His mood relaxed a bit, and thinking of Lena back home at that moment, he couldn't help but pick up his phone.

However, before he could contact Lena, he received an email in his inbox.

Killian's expression froze. He opened the anonymous email, and his gaze immediately turned cold.

The email was full of photos of Lena and the kids - pictures of Lena going to and from work, photos of Lena picking up the children from school, and shots of them eating out at restaurants together.

There was even an attachment with Lena and the children's daily schedule, showing that someone had figured out their routines completely.

What was going on?

Were Lena and the kids being followed?

Killian's first reaction was that someone had targeted them, and his heart immediately filled with anxiety.

Lena and the children were his everything. How could he possibly allow anyone to covet them, let alone harm them?

He thought for a moment, then replied to the email, getting straight to the point and asking what they wanted.

A few minutes later, Killian received a reply. The sender didn't make any demands, just coldly asked one question.

"How long do you think you can protect them?"

That sentence was like a bucket of cold water poured over Killian from head to toe.

He was very aware that he was currently abroad, and no matter how far his reach, he couldn't extend it back home to protect Lena and the others.

What was this person plotting, and why send him this anonymous email? What conspiracy was hidden behind it all?

Killian didn't hesitate. He immediately suppressed the news and contacted his underground network, trying to resolve it himself.

He didn't want Lena to know about this and get upset, especially since even he didn't know what the person's intentions were.

Could it be Alfonso's people, deliberately targeting Lena and the kids to threaten him into withdrawing from the Thorne Group's power center?

Or were the collateral family members unwilling to accept their defeat, pulling these tricks to make him panic and lose focus?

Killian couldn't be sure for the moment. He could only have his underground contacts investigate first, while privately arranging to upgrade the security around Lena and the children, and then called Lena.

Lena was a bit surprised to receive his call, but still asked gently, "What's wrong, Killian? Calling me at this hour?"

"Nothing, I just miss you."

Killian didn't show any signs of trouble, trying to stay calm. "How are you and the kids doing lately?"

He didn't want Lena to notice anything, especially since he hadn't figured out who was behind this yet.

He didn't want Lena to overthink and waste her energy worrying.

Hearing this, Lena laughed softly. "The kids and I are fine, we just miss you a lot."

During Killian's business trip, she had been missing him constantly, also worried that Killian might encounter some danger abroad.

Even though she didn't say much, her heart had been on edge the whole time.

Hearing Lena care about him so much warmed Killian's heart, and he said with a smile, "What could happen to me? Don't worry, once the project is handled, I'll come back right away."

He couldn't wait to fly back to Lena and the children's side. If he weren't tied down by work, he would have taken the earliest flight home already.

"Okay, the kids and I will be waiting for you."

Lena answered while holding her phone, a faint smile on her lips.

After hanging up, she looked at the phone in her hand with some melancholy, unable to snap out of it for a long time.

Even the next day at work, she kept spacing out from time to time.

"What's wrong, Lena?"

When Robert came to see her, he noticed something was off and couldn't help asking.

Only then did Lena come back to her senses. She smiled and shook her head, trying to cover up her distraction. "Nothing, maybe I'm just a bit tired from work, so I can't concentrate."

"Don't push yourself too hard," Robert patted her shoulder and said, "In my opinion, you're already doing great. How many people can reach your level?"

"Why don't you give yourself a long vacation and relax properly?"

Lena answered absentmindedly, looking somewhat distracted.

Lena didn't know what was wrong with her. She just felt vaguely uneasy inside, as if something was about to happen.

"Are you really okay?" Robert asked with concern a couple more times. "Still thinking about Mr. Thorne?"

Hearing Robert's teasing words, Lena laughed. "Alright, stop teasing me. Work is work and family is family - I don't mix the two."

She did miss Killian very much, but it wouldn't affect her work. She had always kept the two things separate.

However, that phone call from Killian really bothered her. She felt it wasn't just an ordinary call - there seemed to be some secret hidden behind it.

Could Killian have run into some trouble or encountered an accident while handling the project?

The more Lena thought about it, the more anxious she felt, so she decided to organize the materials at hand and contact him.

On Killian's end, he was also working non-stop.

Soon, news came from his underground network. The other party wasn't Alfonso's old connections, but rather remnants of an even earlier gray network. Their target was clearly aimed at Killian's weak spot.

After learning this, Killian's expression became even more serious.

Enemies hiding in the dark were the most dangerous, because he knew so little about them and didn't know what their purpose was in doing all this.

Most importantly, they might harm Lena and the children, which was something he absolutely could not accept under any circumstances.

Killian couldn't wait any longer. He immediately rushed to finish the work at hand, only thinking about getting home quickly, back to Lena and the children's side.

Two days later, he hurriedly flew back home without even alerting the media.

Seeing him return, Lena was shocked, and the children all ran forward, excitedly surrounding him.

"You finished so quickly?"

Lena found it strange, noticing that Killian's expression also seemed odd.

"Of course," Killian pulled her into an embrace, finally feeling at ease. "I wanted to come back early to see you and the kids, so I worked overtime to get it all done."

Leaning in his arms, Lena couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong, but a trace of doubt lingered in her heart.

"Daddy!"

Zoe, however, didn't worry about any of that and happily threw herself into Killian's arms.
