Chapter 192 Preventive Measures
Chapter 192 Preventive Measures
Compared to the innocent and carefree Zoe, the other three children were much more perceptive.
The next day, they went to school as usual. Shortly after getting in the car, Max raised his eyebrows slightly and said, "There's a car following us."
He wasn't the only one who noticed—Jade and Liam had also sensed something was off.
"Their disguise is pretty terrible," Jade said with a mocking smile, crossing her arms. "Do they think we're all idiots?"
Liam even pulled out a small knife from his pocket, his eyes sharp as he said, "How about I slash their tires first and see what they're really up to?"
However, Max quickly stopped Liam's plan. In his view, although the car was following them, it didn't seem to intend any harm—it was more like quietly protecting them.
"Let's just observe the situation for now."
He spoke with unusual composure, having already memorized all the details about that car, thinking about what to do next.
Over the following days, Max discovered other people around them as well.
For some reason, there were always people following them, watching their every move.
Being such a smart child, how could Max not notice something was wrong? He immediately told Lena about the situation.
"You're saying someone is secretly protecting you?"
As soon as Lena heard this, her expression became serious.
She had always felt that Killian seemed a bit strange since returning from abroad, but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.
Now that Max was telling her people were protecting them, she realized even more how serious the problem was.
The same thing had happened before—last time, Killian had also strengthened security measures because he was worried about her safety. This situation sounded extremely similar.
"Leave this to me to handle, but I also hope you can take care of your brothers and sisters."
Lena reached out and touched Max's head, her voice gentle yet steady. "Especially when your dad and I aren't around, you must protect them, okay?"
Max nodded in agreement, his eyes full of determination.
That same evening, Lena walked into Killian's office, wanting to talk to him face-to-face.
Seeing her expression was somewhat unusual, Killian vaguely sensed something, but he didn't speak up immediately. Instead, he stood up and pulled Lena over to sit down.
"Killian, I want you to tell me what's really going on." Lena took a deep breath and said to him. "Why are there more people protecting the children? Why have you been so anxious lately? Has something happened?"
She wanted to know the truth, wanted to know all the details, didn't want Killian to bear all the problems alone.
"What could have happened?" Killian answered with a smile, trying to brush it off. "These are just precautionary measures."
"You know, Alfonso tried to harm me before, even staged a car accident to take my life. I don't want the same thing to happen to you and the children, so I've strengthened the security system accordingly."
However, such lies couldn't fool Lena. She knew Killian too well—from his few words, she could tell this wasn't a routine business risk, but a threat that had already threatened their family's safety.
Although she didn't know the specific situation, anything that could make Killian this concerned must not be a small matter.
"Killian..."
Lena looked at him with heavy eyes, but Killian reached out and hugged her, saying softly, "Don't worry, Lena. I won't let anything happen to you and the children. I'll protect this family."
That wasn't what worried her—she just didn't want to see Killian carrying too much alone, overwhelming him with stress.
In the end, Lena said nothing more and sighed helplessly.
However, the matter didn't end there. A few days later, Isolde was followed during a medical checkup.
Although the person didn't approach and quickly left after confirming the target from a distance, Isolde still noticed.
When Lena learned about this, she was extremely shocked.
"Someone followed you?"
She could barely control her expression, and her voice trembled slightly.
Isolde nodded with certainty and said seriously, "I'm not mistaken. Although they were very careful, they still made a small mistake. But they didn't hurt me—it was more like they were observing something."
She couldn't figure out what they were planning, so she took the initiative to tell Lena, wanting her help to think it through.
"Or should we tell Killian?" Isolde suggested again. "Killian might have other connections or resources to track these people down."
One more person meant one more layer of protection, and she trusted Killian—after all, for Lena and the children, he would do anything.
"I understand."
Lena nodded absently, taking this matter to heart. That night, she couldn't sleep at all.
Although Isolde hadn't been actually harmed, the whole incident was sending her a clear signal—they were testing her boundaries.
Who was following Isolde, and why had Killian strengthened the security system, having more people protect her and the children?
Lena felt these things were definitely not coincidental—there must be some reason behind them.
Even though Killian had hidden things from her, Lena could still sense some clues, could feel it wasn't as simple as she had imagined.
Lena tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. For the first time, she clearly realized that as long as she remained in an unofficial position, she and the children would always be the easiest targets.
She couldn't put her family in danger, especially her children and mother—they were the most important part of her life.
If anything happened to them, she really couldn't bear it.
Thinking of this, Lena made up her mind. She couldn't let things continue to develop this way—she had to step forward and solve this problem.
Whatever those people were trying to do, she wouldn't let them succeed. If they dared to target her and her children, they were being way too arrogant.
Lena acted on her decision immediately. The very next morning, she called an internal family meeting and quickly adjusted the children's schedules and activities.
"From now on, you can't act alone anymore, especially Zoe. Max, you all need to take care of her and not let her be by herself."
