Chapter 63 Awakening
I woke up three days ago. Zeus was gone. I had explained to my family what happened during the fight and while I was in a coma. Zeus gave his life for me and I would be forever grateful. While we still didn’t know how it was possible for a wolf to die and not the person, we were all grateful. I told my family what the moon goddesses had said about the chimera having to die so I could be reborn. We tried to figure out what that meant exactly, but to no avail.
After my release from the hospital, I wanted to get back to training. I no longer had Zeus so Max was getting a lot more time forward. Everyone thought I should take it easy for a while but I reminded them that the Blood King was still out there. We needed to be ready for another attack. We couldn’t track him or find where he was holed up. All we could do was prepare. Scarlett was not the only one on his hit list anymore. Our allies had gone home but would be back soon.
It was good to get back to normal. But I never let my guard down. I knew the Blood King was just biding his time, trying to recruit more minions or bring them over from Europe. Training would be good though.
“Hey guys. Want to help me with this afternoon’s training session,” I asked.
“Sure. what do you need us to do,” Ethan asked.
“So this afternoon we will be in wolf form, except me and the twins, I need you guys to demonstrate for me.”
“We can do that, easy peasy,” Lucas said.
“Scarlett will tell you what to do, I’m going to be working mostly with the twins.”
Lucas and Ethan went off to find Scarlett so they would know what to do later. I was getting tired and my body was starting to ache. I decided to lay down for a bit. Maybe everyone was right. Maybe I am doing too much too soon. I’ll rest for a bit and then get some lunch.
I felt better after resting. I went downstairs and ate lunch with everyone. After lunch I took my group to the west training grounds. I went over the strategy we would be working on and Ethan, Lucas, and Scarlett demonstrated it. Everyone split into groups of three. They would switch who was the “vampire” every ten minutes. I worked with my twin brothers. We shifted to our hybrid forms. I wanted them working on defensive skills for now. I would alternate defensive and offensive skills with each training session with them. I only have them in my training group after lunch. Mom has them in the morning and Dad has them after dinner. This way they get to experience different fighting styles and techniques and get to train with different groups. When our allies return in a few days, everyone will be training together again, one large group.
For the most part everything was business as usual. We started running drills at various times everyday. The drills were to make sure that everyone knew where the closest bunker was located to their position and to make sure that those who would need help could get it. With us not knowing when the next attack would come, we didn’t want to interrupt the daily routine too much, so bringing everyone home and preparing them for the attack was priority one. We let them do their daily routines as usual with one exception, the drills. Everyone was doing well with them so far. After the first drill, we assigned guardians and patrolmen to help those who needed it. The drills went much better after that.
Our allies started to arrive. We set them up the same as last time. It was good that school was now out for summer. We had to do three, thirty minute breakfast shifts to accommodate everyone. Those not training got the third shift. We used the packhouse dining hall and the school cafeteria to feed everyone. When it wasn’t raining, we all ate outside.
Things were going smoothly. Everyone was getting along. And drill times were down.
As I walked around the training grounds giving suggestions and correcting some attack and defense positions, I collapsed. I was still conscious, but my whole body ached and I was suddenly and incredibly tired. Everyone stopped what they were doing and rushed to me.
“Give him some room, people,” Dad said as he pushed his way through the crowd.
“I’m fine, just a bit tired is all.” I said. And with that people went back to training.
“You okay, EJ,” Mom asked.
“I’m fine.”
“Are you sure,” Scarlett asked.
“Yes, don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine, really.”
They helped me up. I told them I was going to go lay down for a bit and would see them at dinner.
While I was lying down, I started to glow. There was a blue light emanating from my skin. I got up and looked in the mirror. My eyes had turned blue as well. I wasn’t sure what was happening to me. I was changing, that much I knew. I called my father through the mindlink and told him what was happening to me. He said he would be here soon. I waited on my bed. When he came in, Taylor was with him.
“What’s happening,” Taylor asked.
“I’m not sure. I feel like something is changing in me,” I replied.
“Just be calm, son,” Dad said.
“I am calm. I just don’t know what exactly is happening to me.”
“I think this is what the moon goddesses were talking about,” Taylor said. “Maybe this is you being reborn.”
“Well, it’s weird.” I said. The glowing stopped and I passed out.
When I woke up, I felt strange. I looked in the mirror. My eyes were still blue and I had a streak of white in my black hair. I looked out my window, it was dark outside. How long had I been asleep? I looked at the clock, it was just after three in the morning. I was starving. I went to the kitchen to get something to eat. I could see perfectly in the dark, as if the lights were on. Just as I reached the kitchen, I was hit with a vision.
The Blood King was in Europe, France I think, gathering his forces. There were so many of them.
Then it jumped.
The Blood King was back in the States. He was attacking us. Buildings were on fire. Bodies lay on the ground.
The vision ended. I was in the kitchen now. I didn’t see when the attack would happen. I grabbed some food and went to find Uncle Ben, Uncle Zach, and Aunt Scarlett. I went to the house we built for them out back. Ben opened the door before I could knock.
“What’s wrong,” he asked.
“I just had a vision, I think,” I replied.
“Come in. What did you see?” Ben asked.
“I saw the Blood King. He was in France, I think. He was gathering an army. Then it jumped to him attacking us here.”
“Did you see when,” Scarlett asked.
“No, that’s why I came here. I wanted to know if you guys could see when the attack will take place.”
“I will see what I can see,” Zach said as his eyes turned white.
We waited a few moments. When Zach’s eyes returned to normal I asked, “What did you see?”
“We have two days to prepare.” Zach said.
I ate my food slowly. I was trying to think of all the stuff we needed to do.
When everyone got up for breakfast we began. With the vision of the attack, it gave us time to evacuate the town. We did as we had before. All those who could not fight went to our allies territories for safety. We would not need to use the bunkers. We loaded the buses and sent them off. Then the rest of us got back to training. We used the same groups as before.
