Chapter 134 Sophie Wouldn't Have Been Like This Before

Chapter 134 Sophie Wouldn't Have Been Like This Before

"Oh my God, this is a disaster!"

Violet sat on the couch, practically slapping her knees to pieces.

She clenched her jaw, drowning in regret.

How did she ever get tangled up with this menace?

Preston stared at the pregnancy test report in his hand, eyes blazing with fury.

He suddenly looked up at Elena, who was leisurely sipping water.

Facing his murderous glare, Elena showed not a trace of fear. Instead, she curved her lips into a smirk and said smugly, "You can't touch me. After all, this baby in my belly is your only shot at an heir."

Preston met her triumphant gaze with cold eyes. "Aren't you afraid I'll settle the score with you later?"

In all his years, Preston had never been played like this. This woman had the audacity to scheme against him so brazenly.

Elena's lips curved slightly as she set down her glass and said leisurely, "Of course I'm afraid. That's why we need to renegotiate the terms."

Seeing her push her luck like this, Preston immediately threw the pregnancy report on the floor. "You still think you can negotiate with me?"

If it weren't for the fact that the child in her belly was his only chance at having a kid, he'd kill her right now.

Facing his murderous stare, Elena's eyes showed no fear whatsoever.

She gently stroked her stomach. "I hold all the cards. You don't get to decide whether we negotiate or not. Unless you want to give up on ever having your own child."

Preston shot to his feet and swiftly grabbed Elena by the throat, pinning her down on the couch. "You bitch!"

There was no surprise in Elena's eyes—only smug defiance as she stared at Preston.

She was gambling that he wouldn't dare kill her.

Preston's rage intensified, and he didn't ease up his grip one bit.

Violet jumped up from the couch in alarm, grabbing his hand. "Don't! Don't hurt the baby!"

Now that Preston couldn't have any more children, this baby was the Davis family's last hope.

Under Violet's tearful pleas, Preston gradually loosened his grip.

His chest heaved violently as he gasped for air, barely keeping himself from dying of rage.

Elena could breathe again. She coughed violently while slumped on the couch, then sat up with a smug expression. "If you want me to keep this baby, I need to become Mrs. Davis. For my safety, we'll sign an agreement. If anything happens to me or I have an 'accident,' all your shares transfer to me."

Preston's gaze darkened. Did she really think she could secure the position of Mrs. Davis? Wasn't she afraid he'd settle accounts with her once the baby was born?

Elena clearly anticipated his thoughts and said softly, "I've got nothing left to lose. If anyone pushes me too far, we'll all go down together."

Violet's lips trembled with anger. "You heartless woman! You dare ask for everything!"

"I used to not dare ask for anything, but didn't you all just treat me like a breeding tool anyway?"

Elena stopped pretending entirely. She scoffed and looked at Preston. "I'll give you three days to think it over. Otherwise, I'll get rid of this baby immediately."

With that, she stood up from the couch and strutted toward the stairs.

"You," she pointed at a servant, "go prepare a room for me. I'm living here from now on."

Watching Elena act like she owned the place, Preston's temple twitched. His fists clenched—he wanted to kill her, but he couldn't.

He slumped back onto the couch, covering his face with his hand, nearly drowning in frustration.

Violet sighed deeply and said helplessly, "How did we end up with a woman like this? Sophie used to be so obedient and sensible."

She regretted everything now.

Compared to Elena, Sophie was practically a saint.

Elena was an absolute lunatic!

Preston's gaze turned ice-cold as he glanced at Violet, his lips curling into a cold smile. "Didn't you used to hate Sophie? Now you finally see how good she was, but it's too late."

Hearing his sarcasm, Violet immediately stamped her foot and snapped, "What does my opinion of Sophie have to do with this? You're the one who brought this disaster into our lives!"

Preston didn't bother arguing with her. He stood up with a cold laugh. "From now on, you'll have to take good care of her and that baby. If anything happens to her, none of us will have it easy."

Violet froze. "Where are you going?"

Leaving her alone to deal with this crazy woman? She couldn't handle that.

Elena had suffered so much at her hands before—she'd definitely want revenge.

Preston walked out without looking back, his cold voice drifting behind him. "The office."

Violet felt stifled.

Now he suddenly cared about the company, but he'd dumped Elena on her. What kind of situation was this?

……

After hearing everything Matthew had to say, Sophie smiled faintly. "I guess this is what you'd call karmic destiny."

When Preston first got involved with Elena, he thought she was helpless and easy to bully. Now that the viper had bitten back, he realized Elena wasn't so easy to shake off.

Karma.

Matthew frowned thoughtfully and said hesitantly, "Do you think the baby Elena's carrying is really Preston's? Isn't it a little too convenient?"

After all, she had a track record. Faking something like this wouldn't be beyond her.

Sophie understood his suspicion and shook her head. "It's probably real."

After all, if they could think of it, Preston definitely could too. A DNA test would reveal the truth immediately. Elena wouldn't be stupid enough to dig her own grave.

That child could only be Preston's. As for what underhanded methods she used to get pregnant, that remained unknown.

Violet valued children above all else. Whether Preston wanted the baby or not was unclear, but Violet would definitely protect it. Even if only for the child's sake, she'd make Elena carry it to term.

"Something about this whole thing feels off to me," Matthew said in a low voice.

Though he didn't know Preston well, he was fairly confident in his assessment.

Preston still suspected Sophie was alive—how could he possibly keep a woman by his side? Wouldn't that deliberately disgust Sophie?

His greatest fear right now was that Sophie would never return. So he'd only keep Elena around if something had forced his hand.

"Maybe, but you should still stay out of their business," Sophie said. It wasn't that she was afraid—she just didn't see the point.

Preston was stubborn by nature, the type who wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted.

If anyone truly crossed his line, they'd face his retaliation.

He already suspected Matthew had helped her escape and was watching his every move like a hungry wolf. If Matthew showed even the slightest interest in investigating him, Preston would notice.

"I know what I'm doing, don't worry," Matthew said reassuringly, then changed the subject. "You're pretty far along now. Let me find you a professional caregiver."

Sophie needed to work and prove her worth—he couldn't control that. But he wanted to secure her home front.

"I've been thinking the same thing, but I've already found someone. You don't need to worry about it."

Matthew murmured his acknowledgment, then said tentatively, "I have a business trip coming up that'll take me through your city. Could I stop by to see you?"
