Chapter 169 I want Danny to fall in love with the real me
“It’s actually pretty simple when you think about it,” Leonard said, leaning back in his big office chair with this calm, collected expression on his face.
“If Love has her heart set on someone, we can’t just stop her from going after him. Sometimes people have to go out there and make their own mistakes before they really learn the hard lessons life throws at them.”
He had decided that it wasn’t right to shield their daughter from the harsh realities of a love life anymore.
Lucinda stared at him in total surprise, her eyes widening for a second.
Those words sounded completely unlike the fiercely protective man she knew and loved sitting right beside her. Leonard had always been insanely protective when it came to Love.
If anyone had told her even a few minutes earlier that he would actually be willing to let their daughter chase after a guy with Danny West’s sketchy reputation, she never would have believed it in a million years.
Still, as strange and out of character as it felt, she understood exactly what he meant deep down.
Her own life experiences had taught her that love wasn’t something you could control or force on someone else. No amount of warnings or good advice could stop a person whose heart had already made up its mind and gone all in.
After turning it over in her head for a bit, she slowly nodded in agreement. “Okay,” she said, even though agreeing with him didn’t magically fix the heavy worry that had already wrecked her mood.
That nagging concern sitting deep in her heart just wouldn’t go away no matter how hard she tried.
Leonard noticed it right away, like he always did when something was bothering her. Without saying another word, he reached over and gently pulled her closer until she was resting against him.
His hand brushed softly across her cheek before his lips found hers in this slow, deep, passionate kiss that still had the power to make everything else fade into the background.
To Leonard, Lucinda was like the finest wine that only got better with time. The more years they spent together, the more incredibly precious she became to him. Time hadn’t weakened their love one bit. If anything, it had made every single embrace feel warmer, every kiss taste sweeter, and every moment they shared feel so much more meaningful and alive.
When they finally pulled apart, Lucinda couldn’t help smiling despite all the heavy stuff weighing on her mind.
Leonard smiled right back at her with that loving look in his eyes before he reached over and pressed the intercom button. A few moments later, the office door opened and Lord and Love walked back inside.
His attention settled warmly on his daughter. “So…” A gentle smile crossed his face as he looked at her. “What exactly are you planning to do about all this?”
Love’s eyes immediately lit up like fireworks, sparkling with pure excitement. She looked like someone who was already lost in beautiful daydreams about her future.
“I want to move to Los Angeles,” she said, the thrill in her voice impossible to hide. “I’ll audition for different movie studios and try to land roles in projects that Danny’s part of.” A dreamy smile spread across her face as she kept going. “And then, I’ll make him fall madly in love with me.”
Leonard quietly watched her, his years of hard-won experience telling him that the road ahead probably wouldn’t be nearly as beautiful or straightforward as Love was imagining in her head.
Love rarely did anything halfway when it came to following her heart. Once she set her mind on wanting something, she threw every single ounce of herself into it with everything she had.
As her father, he couldn’t live her life for her or shield her from every possible heartbreak. All he could do was support her the best way he knew how and be there for her whenever she needed him to catch her.
“In that case…” His expression turned serious and full of fatherly care. “Promise me you’ll stay in close touch with us the whole time.”
Love nodded eagerly. “I will, Dad. I promise.”
“I also want your Uncle Dom to assign a bodyguard who can stay close and keep an eye on you,” he added.
Before he could even finish the sentence, Love shook her head so fast that her hair swung wildly around her shoulders. “No,” she said firmly, her brows knitting together.
“I don’t want any of that bodyguard stuff following me around.” She looked directly at her father with steely determination in her eyes. “Dad, I want to live like a normal person for once. I want Danny to fall in love with the real me.”
She smiled softly, her voice full of quiet conviction. “Not because of your money. Not because of our family’s influence or power. Just put a few thousand dollars in my bank account and help me rent a small apartment in Los Angeles. That’s honestly all I need.”
Lord looked back and forth from his sister to their parents in complete disbelief, his jaw tightening with frustration. “Dad…” He let out a heavy, annoyed breath.
“I can’t believe you’re actually letting her do this.” His gaze shifted over to Lucinda, his hands lifting helplessly. “And Mom… you’re seriously just going to sit there and go along with it?”
